Philips Hue Beyond is the company's attempt at taking its connected lighting platform to the mainstream. That's why the new range of light fixtures -- lamps, pendant and ceiling lights -- pair a color-changing module with a "tunable" white light for actually being able to see. We managed to sneak around to the back of Philips' booth at IFA and into a demonstration area where we got to see the gear in use for the first time. It was here that we learned that the company will break out a standalone Hue Beyond app, specifically designed to cater to the more complex dual-bulbed platform. We also learned that there are a trio of Hue modules powering both of the lights, while a single hockey puck-shaped component can be found lurking beneath the lamp's cover. Still unsure if Hue Beyond is worth the investment? Check out the snaps.

Placing a pre-order for Beyond: Two Souls at GameStop before its October 8 launch date will upgrade your order to the game's Special Edition for free, the PlayStation Blog has detailed. The Special Edition includes a 30-minute scene focused on guiding protagonist Jodie and her ghostly friend Aiden through a series of test-room puzzles. A soundtrack consisting of the game's four themes will also be paired with "making-of" videos featuring Ellen Page, Willem Dafoe and Beyond's writer, David Cage. A dynamic theme for the PS3 and PSN avatars round out the offering, all of which will be packaged in the Special Edition's metal case. We recently discussed the game's cinematic direction and found it to be an interesting approach to storytelling.

  • SciFi channel considering name change to Beyond

Given that the SciFi channel has deviated from showing only, um, science fiction, we suppose a name change may be in order after all. Based on a recent survey about the network, it clearly states that it's considering changing its name to "Beyond." The survey then asks how the respondent would view the change if it were made, specifically asking how we think the channel would change if the name changed. Is that to mean the content would change from its current slate, or are we just reading too much into it?[Thanks, Buttabean]

  • Rumor: Ubisoft character making Super Smash Bros. Brawl roster

By way of DS Revolution, we're to believe that a gamer, who naturally has an inside source at Nintendo, is telling him that a few of Ubisoft's most notable characters are being looked at to be included in the roster of characters in Super Smash Bros. Brawl. Of Ubisoft's long line of franchise characters, the proposed character has been narrowed down to Jade, Rayman, the Prince, and Sam Fischer. Now, this is purely a rumor, but the thought of either Jade or Sam Fischer being included tickles my fancy in ways it was not meant to be tickled. Obviously, Sam versus Solid Snake would be a stealth fan's dream come true, but the thought of Jade getting in the spotlight again, which would then help bring us a much needed sequel to Beyond Good & Evil, is too much to pass up. Yes it's a rumor, but who would you like to see the cut if it turns out to be true?

We recently reported about the possibility of Beyond Good and Evil 2 being Revo-bound sometime in 2007. Seems this isn't the case and the title's sequel is not currently in development, on any platform, yet Ubi wasn't so quick to say it impossible. In making contact with French Nintendo site, Puissance-Nintendo, allegedly Ubi was very shocked as to the news and claimed that a sequel was probable. [Via Revolution Portal]
