Activision's first Big League Sports featured small challenges based on sports, which is a somewhat novel approach to Wii sports minigames. The series is returning this June with Big League Sports: Summer, also coming to the DS. Strangely, three of the six "sunshine pastimes" in Big League Sports: Summer -- tennis, football, and soccer -- also appeared in the first game. Could Activision not think of more sports? Does tennis even have a "big league?" Summer does add three new events: beach volleyball, golf, and baseball. The Wii version features both cooperative multiplayer and competitive All-Star Challenges.Grab some Big League Chew and get ready to hear about the game from Almost Wilford Brimley in the trailer after the break.

Titled Big League Sports, Activision's new game is taking inspiration from the many other minigame compilations available on the console. Due for release in North America this holiday season, the new game emphasizes "a singular focus on putting players in the most thrilling situations while competing in their favorite sports." The "favorite sports" it speaks of? Tennis, basketball, football (American style), soccer, lacrosse and hockey, with each sport featuring its own "hit the shot and the buzzer" moment, although we're not sure exactly what that means (some kind of tension mechanic?).The final version of the game will feature 22 events across six different sports and various game modes, including single game, marathon, and tournament. There's also going to be a character creation mode which, you guessed it, means there is a strong chance the game will have Mii support. Look for Big League Sports this holiday season.

Deca Sports, Wii Sports, Carnival Games and all the other minigame collections on Wii had better watch their backs ... or at least join together, forming some kind of bargain bin Voltron to do battle against Big League Sports. Activision is bringing the new minigame collection to the Wii "this holiday season."The collection will include 22 of the most "thrilling situations" from tennis, basketball, football, soccer, lacrosse, and hockey. Also, there's character creation so (as we're sure they expected by now) it seems your Miis will miss out on the fun.
