  • Midway's PS3 lineup for E3 revealed

In an official press release, Midway listed the titles that will make an appearance at E3. The PS3 titles are all multi-platform, but are also multi-genre. They'll be showing off Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe, Wheelman, TNA iMPACT!, Blitz The League 2, and This is Vegas -- most are due out this Fall, but This is Vegas has been pushed into 2009. As Midway CEO Matthew Booty put it, "these games truly reflect our product strategy to develop top quality titles in a wide range of genres that appeal to all segments of the market." This is a fair statement: we've got a fantasy fighting game, an intense driving/action title, wrestling, football, and a sandbox-style simulation game. It's a wide spread, so we'll see if they get any thumbs up at E3 next week.

Blitz is back according to a Midway press release announcing Blitz: The League II for the PS3 and also the Xbox 360. The football series is set come back to PlayStation consoles after sitting sidelined since 2005. The new game is said to have an "all-new story mode penned by former ESPN "Playmakers" writer, Peter Egan" and will also feature the return of football legend, Lawrence Taylor. Pretty interesting stuff for all you "Foosball" fans. A release date has yet to be set, but if you're looking for on Blitz: The League II, then scout out the official site.[Via press release]

  • Blitz: The League, Game Party sequels coming

Midway has announced that Blitz: The League 2, sequel to their totally extreme football game, will release simultaneously on all three home consoles this fall (we're guessing it'll be right in time to get lost among all the holiday releases). What about the first game, which was supposed to be a Wii launch title? Saaaaaaaacked. Midway also announced a sequel to Game Party. They must have made back the twenty bucks they spent developing the first one. No details have been revealed about either game -- Midway is planning to release more information about their entire lineup at E3. We at least know what to expect from Game Party 2: an average minigame collection that will generate inexplicably high sales.

  • Midway looks to Hollywood tie-ins in 2008

2007 was not exactly a banner year for Midway, with the company still doing its best Atari impression with its pocketbook alongside lowered financial forecasts, f*cked up development, and a string of delays. Like a good little soldier, however, the publisher has kept its eyes on the horizon, though we're inclined to chalk up its newly revealed plans to achieve financial security by investing in Hollywood tie-ins to too much holiday eggnog. Something tells us this was not what Pachter had in mind when he said Midway could be just one franchise away from financial freedom. The company has already announced new NBA Ballers and Blitz games for the new year, and also plans to helm the video game prequel to the Vin Diesel flick Wheelman, though Midway CEO David Zucker describes the firm's 2008 strategy as one of "fewer, bigger, better" releases. Honestly, if we were Midway we'd take just one of those three and count ourselves lucky.

  • Midway also confirms a new Blitz game

Though much of last night's hubbub was about the will they/won't they delay of Unreal Tournament 3, Midway also let a few other game releases slip in their financial report. One was an upcoming Mortal Kombat, which we already heard about, but Midway also confirmed that they were working on a new entry in the X-TrEmE football series, Blitz. You no doubt remember Blitz for its steroid juicing and the ability to send hookers to the opposing team more than for, say, the football part.Though we're happy for any series that helps make EA want to put an effort into Madden, we can't help but be bothered by something. In a world where Chad Johnson celebrates touchdowns by finding Jimmy Hoffa and shooting fireworks from his fingertips, O.J. Simpson is on a nationwide crime spree and Michael Vick eats dogs whole, how much more extreme does football need to be?

  • Best Buy whips out mad dealz

Seriously. Best Buy is having a small-yet-appreciated discount on a few of the Wii launch titles. The following reductions should have already taken place: Red Steel - $29.99 (formerly $49.99) Super Swing Golf - $29.99 (formerly $49.99) Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz - $39.99 (formerly $49.99) Perhaps not the finest of titles, but the significant price-cuts to RS and SMB might convince gamers who were on the fence to take the financial plunge. Any of you guys out there going to finally pick one of these titles up? Can we come to your house and play with you (we work for cookies and the occasional mixed drink here)?[via GoNintendo]

The New Year's Xbox Live content dry spell seems to be ending, as a Blitz the League demo dropped on Marketplace today. Sure it's not the freshest demo around, but it's better than nothing. It should be noted, however, that Silver members will have to wait until next week. For the rest of us, start your year off right with digital football complete with digital hookers and digital drug use. Doesn't get much better than that, right? As long as it's a videogame, you can do all your favorite things and not break your New Year's resolutions!Oh, and if football isn't your thing, don't forget the Crackdown demo that drops next week.

Guten Tag und willkommen zum Nintendo Blitz. Yesterday the news broke that Nintendo will spend over $200 million marketing the Nintendo Wii. A lot of readers said advertising isn't everything, and they're absolutely right. To back up the ad buys, Nintendo is also unleashing a massive publicity blitz across various demographics into our general culture. In the last month, the Wii was featured in a special two-part episode of South Park, along with Time, Fortune, National Public Radio, BusinessWeek, The Wall Street Journal -- mind you, all in a positive light. The only bad thing Fortune said was the Wii's name was scary. What happens next? For the sake of brevity we'll bullet point it after the jump.

  • Blitz Games joins the Revolution

IGN reports that UK developer Blitz Games, who is responsible for the enjoyable Fuzion Frenzy (and many other not so enjoyable titles such as Bad Boys 2 and Bratz: Rock Angelz), has officially claimed they are in cahoots with an undisclosed, yet assuredly big-named, publisher to bring a game to the Revolution. We personally hope it's another entry into the dangerous world of equestrian combat starring everyone's favorite spy Barbie. We're not being sarcastic at all, really.
