As we all know, the upcoming Burning Crusade expansion will include two new races - the Blood Elves and the Draenei.  For me, the thought of a new race to try out has reinvigorated interest in the game.  After having played around with nearly every class and race combination at least a little, the thought of something new is exciting, and I'm already planning out what I'd like to play.  Is everyone else equally eager to have a chance to play with the new races, or is there something else you're looking forward to seeing in the expansion?

It looks like some enterprising soul managed to snap a couple of pics at E3 of some maps that are supposedly of the new Blood Elf & Draenei starting areas. MapWoW.com has posted the images on their site for the interested to check out; you can see them right here. The Draenei area is called Azuremist Isle, in Amman Vale. The Blood Elf area does not identify itself on the given image, so the name is still a mystery as of now. I vote for Bloodelphia...

There's a new post up by Chris Metzen that makes an attempt at explaining the interesting quandary of the new Draenei lore.  It's a fairly long post, so I'll summarize... The change in the Eredar/Sargeras encounter was an accident, caused by not reviewing the older lore. Sometimes you need to be a bit flexible with the world's history in order to "broaden the scope and accessibility of your setting." They're going to run with the story as it currently is on the Burning Crusade site.  They feel it's a stronger story and have already started to build around it. However, there's a lot more in the post and I highly suggest checking it out if you have the time.

I played through the first few levels as a Blood Elf Mage at E3 today. As a veteran of every other newbie land, I have to say that starting from scratch as a Blood Elf has a similar feel to the other races -- there's only so much you can do as a newbie, after all. However, the newbie quests have an interesting twist. Thanks to the Blood Elves' Mana Tap racial, levelling downtime is reduced, and quests teach you how to use the racial effectively. It's going to be a really vital get-out-of-jail card -- when you Mana Tap enemies, their mana is reduced and you receive a buff with no immediate effect. You can stack this effect up to three times, and then unleash the Arcane Torrent racial to restore your much-needed mana at a time when it really counts. The cooldown means you can't use this all the time, but I can see it becoming really vital for healers, for instance.

The official World of Warcraft site has been updated with a new feature, detailing the lore & history behind the mysterious Blood Elves, soon to be gracing Azeroth in the Burning Crusade expansion. The story follows the legacy of the outcast elf Dath'Remar Sunstrider, and how he led his people to their new home in Azeroth, millennia before the first war. From reading this, it looks like Blizzard has done another excellent job in setting up the backstory of the new Horde race & incorporating their history into the World of Warcraft; you can check out the story right here.

The official Burning Crusade site has been updated with new concept art,  new screenshots (primarily of the Draenei), and interesting lore information for both races.  There's also a new gameplay trailer, so those of us who stayed home can see what everyone at E3 is seeing.  (Well, almost.)  There's a lot of other information out there, but Blizzard's site is still the official information, and it's the only place to find detailed lore. The official site has posted five (gee, a whole five!) new screenshots from the upcoming WoW expansion The Burning Crusade. From what I can tell from the pics, we get a nice new desert landscape that looks sort of like a Yes album cover, and some new Blood Elf character shots, which look pretty cool, I guess.Still no screenshots of Murlocs running around in Ironforge wearing leather armor, though...and nary a wisp in sight.

While information on the upcoming expansion is still fairly limited, community manager Tigole has recently given us a list of planned playable classes for the new Horde race, the Blood Elves.  Included are mage, priest (I wonder what their racial abilities will be!), warrior, warlock, rogue, and hunter, though Tigole does note that this may change.  I'm planning on starting a Blood Elf warlock when the option becomes avalible, what about you?
