  • 'Genital Jousting' brings a new level of silliness to Steam

As Goat Simulator and Surgery Simulator prove, many folks don't take their gaming too seriously. And what could possibly be less serious than dueling penises? That's pretty much the premise of Genital Jousting, a game where you control a "wiggly anus" and (flaccid) penis, complete with testicles. First conceived at a game jam, the title has finally got a full release, as it were, to Steam Early Access.

With the Iowa caucuses behind us, it's understandable if you want to make your voice heard again before this November. Well, PlayStation has your back because Vote to Play is making a return. Starting February 9th, you can once again vote for which of three indie game candidates will be a free PS Plus download for March. The program's been on hiatus since August for whatever reason, but this month's crop looks pretty solid.

Broforce received a free "tactical update" today, adding new missions and characters to the side-scrolling shooter. The two new bros in the game are Bro Max, a spoof on Max Rockatansky from Mad Max, and The Brode, a take on Uma Thurman's character The Bride from the Kill Bill series of films. The game's new campaign missions are set in Eastern Europe. The update also introduced Steam Workshop support for the game, allowing players to create their own levels and share them with the game's bro-mmunity. Broforce launched on Steam Early Access in April and was a source of fun for Joystiq Streams around that time. The game is still in beta, available for $14.99 through Steam and the Humble Store. What do you get when you mix Devolver Digital's Broforce with The Expendables 3? Why, "The Expendabros" of course, which happens to be a stand-alone crossover game that blends the run-and-gun action of Broforce with Expendables-inspired characters. Now available on Steam, The Expendabros is free to download and includes the likeness of characters from the upcoming action film sequel The Expendables 3. The game's seven playable characters include Broney Ross (Sylvester Stallone) and Bro Christmas (Jason Statham), and has players gunning their way through Eastern Europe to take down arms dealer Conrad Stonebanks. While The Expendabros is free to download now, it will only be available through the end of the year, December 31. Those unfamiliar with Broforce should check out our archived stream of the game from April. [Image: Devolver Digital]

The Humble Store is currently hosting a particularly patriotic event, dubbed the DRM Freedom Sale, to celebrate the Fourth of July. The sale features games like Broforce, Surgeon Simulator 2013 and Retro City Rampage, discounted by up to 85 percent. Not only can you feel free to use the money you'll save on some sweet explosion-rockets, but you can feel good about yourself too, as 10 percent of the proceeds go to charity. You might want to hurry though; like a red, white and blue firework in the night sky - this deal will only exist for a short while. At the time of writing, there are just more than three hours left. Broforce, which is still working itself into a patriotic lather on Steam Early Access, has been updated with more freedom. That liberty comes in the form of two new Jean-Claude Van Damme Bros. There's the slo-mo Time Bro and the phoenix down imparting Broniversal Soldier.

Hey! Where you going, Brosephine Baker? Got someplace better to be? Not when there's Broforce to play, you don't. Free Lives' shooter may look like a pile of pop culture references, pixel art, and 16-bit era run-and-gunning no different from legions of games put out by small developers over the past four years, but to dismiss Broforce's raw power is to do it a major disservice. Playing this chaotic madness well requires more patience and careful attention than you'd expect from something the lets you play as Dutch from Predator teaming up with Wesley Snipes to blow up everything ever. Even more so in co-op. When partnered up, you've got to play diplomatically and be a regular Brotros Brotros Ghali. Only then can you achieve true brodom. Joystiq Streams is rolling deep in Broforce today at 4PM EST on the Joystiq Twitch channel. Our very own Brah'lexzander Sliwinski will be playing while Anthony John Agnellbro hangs out in the chat and comments on all the brolation. Many special guests may appear as well... A true conversation between my inner bros: "Bro, for real, Broforce is out April 7." "That game is gonna crush it." "Crush it hard, yo." "Fasho, it's so sick! What's it about?" "Don't worry about it." "BROFORCE!" I hate my beautiful mind. [Image: Devolver Digital]

  • Broforce hits Steam Early Access in March, bro

Aptly self-described "rogue publisher" Devolver Digital has announced an agreement with developer Free Lives to release Broforce on Steam's Early Access come March, with full-fledged PC and console releases to follow this summer. "When evil threatens the world, the world calls on Broforce - an under-funded, over-powered paramilitary organization dealing exclusively in excessive force," reads the game's official description. "Brace your loins with up to four players to run 'n' gun as dozens of different bros and eliminate the opposing terrorist forces that threaten our way of life. Unleash scores of unique weapons and set off incredible chain reactions of fire, napalm, and limbs in the name of freedom." If that last paragraph didn't grow hair on your chest, take a look at the above trailer, which depicts Broforce as a retro-styled, multiplayer platformer homage to the action films of the 1980s. You've got your classic action hero archetypes, your over-the-top machismo, and an eagle made of metal flexing in front of the American flag. Short of Sylvester Stallone arm-wrestling the ghost of Ronald Reagan, this is about as bro as it gets, bro. [Image: Devolver Digital/Free Lives]
