Buddy & Me, the sidescrolling mobile game about Falkor The Luck Dragon totally not Falkor The Luck Dragon, is now available on Google Play, according to a news post from developer Sunbreak. The adorable, adorable, adorable mobile game earned high praise from us back when it first released on iOS, and now Android users get to experience what it's like to have the mental walls of cynicism and apathy broken down by stars and singing bunnies. For those not yet taken in by Buddy's big, lovable grin, here's how the magic happens: you're given two minutes to get as far as you can through a treehouse so large even the wealthiest billionaire's children would gawk at its immensity and wonder. Collecting bunnies adds time to the clock, so the longer you can keep up with the game, the longer the ride will last. You might even say the story of Buddy & Me is neverending. This is Portabliss, a column about downloadable games that can be played on the go. Remember how you watched The Neverending Story, and you wished you had your very own luck dragon to pal around with? Enter Buddy & Me, a delightful runner-style game for iOS and Kindle Fire. The enormous orange Buddy is like a chubbier, cheerier version of Falkor, happily air-swimming alongside you as you jog through treetop walkways, rushing to your aid when you encounter a gap just a bit too big to jump across. His big, goofy grin is the embodiment of childlike joy you get from being around your bestest pal in the whole world. He's ... well, he's your buddy. As, erm, "Me," you've got two minutes to run as far as you can through a beautifully-drawn infinite tree house, collecting stars and flying angel bunnies as you jump gaps, bounce off massive mushroom caps and swing on tire swings. In addition to saving your bacon when you misjudge a jump, each new bunny you collect adds five seconds to your time. Oh, and they also sing. They're a little flying angel bunny chorus. The only way this game could get more adorable is if it actually hugged you.

Endless runner Buddy & Me has mounted its magical creature to start collecting stars on iOS and Kindle Fire devices this week for $3. Buddy & Me's designer Jason Behr was lead level designer for Metroid Prime and senior mission designer for Halo 4, but the game seems to have traded out energy weapons in favor of fairy tale scenery. Buddy & Me takes place in the dreams of a young boy. Developer Sunbreak Games' website describes the game as a sprint through an "infinite treehouse filled with interactive obstacles, curious creatures, and beautiful landmarks inspired by the Pacific Northwest." Players won't be glued to their puffy orange friend forever, though - Buddy soars alongside the boy in the background, offering assistance when the boy is in need of it. Exploring a world with a beautiful world with a mythical beast as a child. Hmm, almost reminds us of something .... [Thanks, David!]

Buddy & Me, a beautifully drawn 2D endless runner about a boy and his "magical flying creature" pal having adventures in a dream world of "infinite treehouses," passed its $40,000 Kickstarter goal, ending with $42,093 raised. That funding will enable developer Sunbreak Games to complete the iOS/Android game, expected in June.Founder Jason Behr had experience working on the Metroid Prime series as lead level designer, and on Halo 4 as senior mission designer, before starting his own company and working on a game that looks nothing like either of those. "At Sunbreak," the Kickstarter project explains, "we're dedicated to crafting entertainment with a more 'positive' tone, so for Buddy & Me we focused on three core themes: companionship, an obsession with treehouses, and the natural excitement of exploring the great outdoors."
