Watch as NASA lays John Glenn to rest on Thursday
Astronaut and four-term US senator from Ohio, John Glenn, will be buried at Arlington Cemetery tomorrow, April 6th at 9 AM ET. The ceremony will air live on NASA TV to honor the first American to orbit the earth. The US Marine Corps will also webcast the event on its Defense Video Imagery Distribution System.
Sale of buried Atari cartridges nets over $107,000
The never-ending saga of the Atari 2600 E.T. cartridges that were famously buried (and later unearthed) in Alamogordo, New Mexico continues to benefit the small town. Last November, a selection of games (including E.T., Asteroids and Missile Command) that were recovered in the excavation were put up for sale on eBay, and now we know just how much cash they generated. According to the Alamogordo News, the game sales totaled $107,930.15, with more than $65,000 going directly to the town. In addition, the Tularosa Basin Historical Society received over $16,000 while more than $26,000 was spent on shipping and other expenses. A total of 881 cartridges covering 60 different titles were sold overall; a copy of E.T. was the highest single sale at $1,535.
Microsoft celebrates Windows Phone 7 RTM with funeral parade for BlackBerry and iPhone (update: Thriller video!)
The iPhone's dead, long live the Windows Phone. That must be the genius proclamation that incited Microsoft to celebrate Windows Phone 7 reaching RTM status with the incomprehensible procession you see above. An elaborate parade, replete with hearses and black capes, was organized last week to denote the passing of the BlackBerry and iPhone into the land of unwanted gadgets. We'd say this is done in poor taste, but we don't enjoy stating the obvious. We will, however, enjoy the fallout from this poorly judged stunt. Show some respect: give your old mobile a proper burial
If you thought SingTones were weird, you haven't seen anything yet. In a recent press release from Mobile Fun, it offers up the grandiose opportunity of having your aged cellphone buried somewhere in Russia, which will supposedly enable you to rest easy knowing your mobile is resting in peace halfway across the world. Granted, we could think of much more useful things to do with an unwanted mobile, but for those who just have let bygones be bygones, you can ship your handset over along with £20 ($40) and trust that it will be respectfully buried in the middle of the Kursk Magnetic Anomaly. Best of all, you can even toss in an extra £5 ($10) to receive a "farewell SMS" right before it's laid to rest.
