<p>Almost three years after <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/08/04/infinitv-4-quad-cablecard-tuner-is-shipping/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">Ceton's InfiniTV 4 CableCARD tuner hit the market</a> as an easy and affordable way to watch premium HD cable TV on Windows Media Center, the company is finally rolling out a new variant. We've seen <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/02/20/ceton-officially-drops-the-infinitv-4-price-to-199/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">price drops</a>, a <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/11/01/ceton-infinitv-4-usb-tuner-now-shipping-offers-infinite-enterta/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">USB version</a> and a few alternatives from competitors since the 4 launched but a few options were still missing. That included the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/09/10/ceton-cablecard-pc-tuner-details-emerge/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">original six tuner prototype</a> touted at its CES debut and an Ethernet jack for sharing with multiple PCs, but both check boxes have been filled today by the new InfiniTV 6 ETH. It looks a lot like the USB version of the InfiniTV 4, but with an added Ethernet port (the USB port pictured after the break is for a <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/Tuning%20Adapter/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">Tuning adapter</a>, not to connect to a PC) and the ability to record six shows at once. It's available today for $299 from popular online retailers while a six tuner PCIe version is due in June for the same price. Check after the break for a press release with all of the details, plus a quick unboxing and set-up video.<br />

A beta firmware of that software will be available next week for existing customers. The rub, though, is that you'll need a DLNA Digital Media Player (or Rederer) that supports MPEG2, and that just isn't as common as you might think -- as well as DTCP-IP support for copy protected content. In comes two new network tuners, the HDHR4-US and the HDHR4-CC. Both offer hardware transcoding for "digital-to-digital conversion of high-bandwidth MPEG2 streams to bandwidth-friendly H.264." The primary difference between the two new models is one has a CableCARD slot for recording four HD premium channels at once, and the other has dual <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/05/08/hd-101-what-is-atsc-psip-qam-and-8-vsb/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">clear QAM or </a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/ATSC/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">ATSC</a> tuners -- there is also a third unit, HDHR4-DT2, for Europe and Australia. The number of DLNA Digital Media Players (DMP) that support H.264 is far more vast and the codec is far more efficient. This basically means you'll have access to your favorite live content on more devices and in more places, and use less bandwidth while enjoying it. These new ones should be available starting in "mid-2013" with no mention of price in the releases below. But with the HDHR3-CC retailing for $199, we'd suspect the new quad tuner versions with transcode, will come just a bit above that.</p><p> <div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/silicondust-hdhomerun-tuners/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">SiliconDust HDHomeRun tuners</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/silicondust-hdhomerun-tuners/5550389?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2013/01/silicondustces201313lg_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/silicondust-hdhomerun-tuners/5550390?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2013/01/silicondustces201314lg-1357683892_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/silicondust-hdhomerun-tuners/5550439?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2013/01/silicondustces20139lg_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/silicondust-hdhomerun-tuners/5550395?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2013/01/silicondustces201311lg_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/silicondust-hdhomerun-tuners/5550440?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2013/01/silicondustces20138lg_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div></p>

<p class="image-container" style="text-align: center; "> <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/12/05/hdhomerun-prime-is-the-first-cablecard-tuner-to-deliver-live-tv/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget"><img alt="HDHomeRun Prime" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2011/08/sdhdhrp08md.jpg" /></a></p><p> Our favorite shows, anywhere, that's all we really want. Of course that is asking too much but we'll be closer to the dream now that Silicondust has announced its <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/HDHomeRun+Prime/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">three tuner HDHomeRun Prime CableCARD</a> is a certified <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/DLNA/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">DLNA</a> Digital Media Server (DMS). While the options this opens are seemingly limitless, one specific use case is watching premium cable on a PS3. CableCARD tuners aren't exactly known for their ease of setup, but once you do get this working with your cable company and on your network, it'll show up like any other DLNA source to your PS3. From there you can browse the list of channels and watch any you happen to subscribe to.</p><p> The PS3 isn't the only DLNA Digital Media Player (DMP) or Digital Media Renderer (DMR) that works with a DLNA DMS, and plays MPEG2 video. However, at this point it's the only one we know of that also supports DTCP-IP, which is the DRM required to play premium content. A representative of Silicondust told us he's confident more compatible devices are on the way, while even more devices will support the unprotected content. Keep an eye out for an official list of compatible hardware on its site some time after this update starts rolling out later this month. Finally, yes, you will be able to use your DLNA Digital Media Controller (DMC) to record content to your other Digital Media Servers -- is that enough acronyms for you? If this interests you, then stay tuned for CES where Silicondust plans to announce phase 2, which is where we think things could really get interesting.</p>

A new 1.3 beta might offer just what home theater PC users have been looking for to keep the front end relevant, at least in the short term. It carries a much more contemporary (and less <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/WindowsMediaCenter/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">Windows Media Center</a>-like) skin with minor tweaks to the layout and overall interface. <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/CableCARD/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">CableCARD</a> support also makes its overdue appearance, although the lack of official CableLabs approval keeps the software from recognizing any copy-protected shows. Don't fret if those additions aren't enough, however -- we've been given a hint as to what the long-in-development MediaPortal 2 will offer through a pair of videos. The clips are largely top-level overviews, but they allude to mobile tie-ins, events, extensions, more skin support, video backgrounds and news. With an Autumn Build of MP2 available "right around the corner" for viewers, it might not be long before we learn what those new additions are like through first-hand experience.</p>

Thankfully, TiVo has told <em>Zatz Not Funny</em> that a more affordable Premiere 4 option is on the way. The new DVR will still require QAM digital cable or <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/FiOSTV/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">FiOS TV</a> for its tuners to sing, but its 500GB of space will likely lead to a significant price cut versus the 2TB-touting XL4 -- if also a whole lot of deleted old shows. MoCA, an eSATA port and a single CableCARD slot will carry over, so there's few other penalties in store for those who pass on the XL4 flagship. We don't have any official word on the launch strategy so far, although one loose-lipped rep has floated the rumor of a release within the next one to two months at $250 price tag. If true, the Premiere 4 will go a long way towards satisfying TV junkies who are more concerned about catching every show in a crowded prime time slot (and a lower cost) than digging through months-old archives.</p>

The three tuner CableCARD device can turn your computer into a cable box, and Woot is selling brand new units for just $130 (plus $5 shipping) in this morning's one day sale, a decent discount form the $180 - $200 prices we found elsewhere. Still not convinced this is for you? Check out our <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/08/18/hdhomerun-prime-cablecard-tuner-hands-on/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">hands-on</a> with the device or a quick video trailer embedded after the break. Oh, and if you need a new HDTV to plug it into, Woot's also running a sale on some LG LCDs with 3D and connected apps for $650 / $900 (47-inch / 55-inch).</p>

<p style="text-align: center;"> <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/06/28/verizon-fios-tv-cablecard-restrictions-copy-once/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget"><img alt="Verizon FiOS TV finally set to enforce CableCARD restrictions" height="337" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/06/wmc-cc-activate.png" style="margin:4px" width="600" /></a></p><p> Verizon launched its fiber to the home service the same year <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/CableCARD/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">CableCARD</a> was released, but Verizon's implementation has always been a little different. For starters, Verizon <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2007/07/05/fcc-caves-to-verizons-cablecard-waiver-request/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">got an extra year before it was required to support it</a>, but even since then, Verizon has been pretty lax about enforcing all the restrictions CableCARD has to offer. Despite years of predictions about <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/10/21/verizon-fios-tv-finally-getting-tough-on-cablecard-users/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">the sky falling one day</a>, only now have a few FiOS customers received letters notifying them that the party's over. What we mean is that starting July 31st, you won't be able to just slide an activated CableCARD into another box, like you can now.</p><p> The real bad news however, is that some premium content will now be flagged Copy Once. Although the FCC has always permitted the use of this flag on most content, Verizon has never used it. Essentially that meant that you could record anything you wanted on your TiVo or Windows Media Center PC and copy those programs any which way you'd like. Not only does this break <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/TiVoToGo/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">TiVoToGo</a> and other similar features, but it actually breaks Multi-Room Viewing on the Series3. CableCARD FiOS TV customers can tune to channel 131 to see if their TV will turn dark on D-Day (the screenshot above means you'll need to update your activation to continue viewing) but until then, enjoy the free for all copying while it lasts.<br /> <br /> [Thanks, <a href="https://twitter.com/brennokbob/status/218105871102787584">@BrennokBob</a>]</p>

After <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/05/03/microsoft-breaks-down-windows-8s-media-center-upgrade-path-dol/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">addressing both a few days ago</a>, the internet backlash was (predictably) quick to finding out that Media Center would be available only as an upgrade to the Pro version of the OS, and that without it Windows wouldn't natively play DVDs. What many may not know however, and the new FAQ points out, is that this is not an entirely new thing -- Windows XP did not have support outside of specialized editions or add-ons, several versions of Vista did not play DVDs and on Windows 7 the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/02/03/windows-7-skus-announced-yes-your-worst-nightmare-has-come-to/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">Basic and Starter editions</a> lacked the add-on. Of course, for most users this doesn't matter in the least since brand new PCs tend to ship with third party software to play DVDs (or Blu-ray movies where applicable, which no version of Windows <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2006/08/24/vista-will-not-support-blu-ray-or-hd-dvd-playback-out-of-the-box-or-on-most-PCs/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">has or will natively support</a>). Answering the question we had of what this means for users upgrading their own computers, they'll either need to see if they have existing third party software to play DVDs that is compatible with Windows 8, or acquire Media Center post-upgrade.</p>

<div style="text-align: center; "> <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/02/20/premium-cable-tv-comes-to-xbmc-goodplayer-and-more-via-infinitv/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/02/xbmc-infinitv4.png" style="border-width: 0px; border-style: solid; margin: 4px;" /></a></div>In the olden days of CableCARD circa 2004, only a select few devices and software could leverage the card's power to watch premium cable TV, but not today. Today just about any adventurous dev <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/08/15/cablelabs-amends-ocur-spec-tuner-sharing-and-mythtv-are-on/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">can take advantage of the fact that an OCUR is a network tuner</a> and access premium cable TV -- as long as the content is marked <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/copy+freely/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">Copy Freely</a>, that is. The latest to unleash that power is <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/XBMC/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">XBMC</a> which also helps extend the functionality to iOS via GoodPlayer and Buzz Player as well as any UPnP client with the help of a Serviio media server. Essentially this custom code is acting as a middleman, but fulfilling the dream that any software could directly control and stream from a CableCARD tuner like the <a href="http://hd.engadget.com/2010/03/30/ceton-infinitv-4-cablecard-tuner-review/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">InfiniTV 4</a> is within reach. The only drawback left is that even with the current sale price of the InfiniTV 4 at $199, it still isn't as low as the cost of entry of something like a <a href="http://hd.engadget.com/2010/03/30/ceton-infinitv-4-cablecard-tuner-review/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">ClearQAM tuner</a>.

Boxee argues that encrypting even those channels free and clear via an antenna, as a few cable companies have requested permission from the FCC to do, will increase your bill and limit competition. The <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/NCTA/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">NCTA</a> alternatively claims that eliminating ClearQAM will enable self installs, thus reducing costs and truck rolls, because the coax outside your house will no longer need to be disconnected when you cancel service, and that Boxee should just adopt CableCARD if it wants the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/BoxeeBox/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">Boxee Box</a> to <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/01/24/boxee-box-live-tv-starts-shipping-boxee-1-5-software-update-now/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">access live cable TV</a> -- of course most anyone who has had a <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/CableCARD/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">CableCARD</a> setup knows that a simple truck roll to connect a cable outside is child's play. While this struggle has played out in public with FCC filings, social media and blog posts, we all just fondly remember a day when setting up a TV was as simple as connecting a single coax cable and running a channel scan. Of course, it would be nice if the FCC would actually force <em>more</em> <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/05/08/hd-101-what-is-atsc-psip-qam-and-8-vsb/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">QAM</a> to be sent in the clear and require accurate <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/05/08/hd-101-what-is-atsc-psip-qam-and-8-vsb/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">PSIP</a> data while it's at it, but we <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2007/12/14/hey-fcc-force-big-cable-to-clear-our-qam/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">gave up on that dream years ago</a>.

Whether or not your cable TV provider has decided to <a href="http://hd.engadget.com/tag/twcabletv?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">offer live TV streaming</a> to your <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/08/09/cablevisions-optimum-app-hits-2-0-brings-cable-tv-streaming-to/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">mobile devices</a>, you can do it yourself with the new <a href="http://hd.engadget.com/tag/hdhomerun?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">HDHomeRun</a> iPad app from <a href="http://hd.engadget.com/tag/elgato?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">Elgato</a>. Paired with one of SiliconDust's new <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/08/18/hdhomerun-prime-cablecard-tuner-hands-on/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">HDHomeRun Prime CableCARD tuners</a>, the $17.99 app can tune into cable channels that are sent without encyption or are marked copy freely (varies from provider to provider) and even allows users to record them right on the app. Restrictions include that it only works on the iPad 2, with standard definition MPEG-2 channels and (for now) only the most recent HDHomeRun hardware is supported. Check out the video demo for more information on exactly how it works or click the source link to get to iTunes and buy -- in a market suddenly flooded by CableCARD tuners maybe this extra functionality is just what's needed to tip the balance between one device or another.<br />

Looking a little different than <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/01/06/hands-on-with-the-hdhomerun-prime-cablecard-tuner/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">the prototype we got our hands-on at CES</a>, the retail version of the CableCARD tuner from SiliconDust found its way in front of our camera today. Those who preordered this little guy for $249 <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/08/15/silicondust-delivering-hdhomerun-prime-preorders-3-tuner-ships/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">should start receiving it shortly</a>, as a series of frustrating delays finally come to an end. We can't wait to plug this network tuner in and toss up to three HD feeds at a time through our Ethernet cabling and expect most others feel the same way. Check out out our pics in the gallery below, we'll let you know if the InfiniTV 4 has competition worth worrying about -- seems like it, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/08/18/ceton-infinitv-4-usb-tuner-priced-at-299-ships-september-19th/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">given the price drop</a> -- shortly.<br />

If you preordered an <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/hdhomerunprime/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">HDHomeRun Prime</a> from SiliconDust and haven't received it yet your wait is almost over. The company has informed buyers that it expects to fill all preorders by Labor Day weekend, and before it starts shipping devices to any retailers other than Newegg, so don't expect any more wayward Amazon listings until at least that date. As for the 3 tuner version of the Prime, it should start shipping on August 22nd so dust off that Ethernet port, pick up a CableCARD from your local office and get ready for the UPS guy to drop by.

Not finding the current <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/cablecard/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">CableCARD</a> tuner options satisfactory? Perhaps the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/01/08/infinitv-4-usb-cablecard-tuner-hands-on/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">Ceton InfiniTV 4 USB</a> will fit the bill. We first got our hands on it at CES (along with the InfiniTV 6) in January and the company tweeted tonight that it is now CableLabs certified. There's still no word on details like ship date and pricing, but with regulatory hurdles cleared it should be shipping very soon. It's no surprise that a government entities' own deadlines are never met, but while the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/03/17/a-cablecard-replacement-is-due-by-december-2012-bandaids-by-thi/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">FCC's Broadband Plan</a> originally expressed its intent to <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/10/14/the-fcc-changes-the-cablecard-rules-but-not-dramatically/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">apply bandaids to CableCARD</a> in the Fall of 2010, November 1st 2011 is the date most feeling the pain can circle on their calendar. That is the day all cable providers will be required to allow self installs, while December 1st is the day that the new useless IP interface must start working -- certainly to be made useless by unlicensable DRM, like <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2006/02/03/mce-cablecard-support-is-great-but-what-about-5c/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">5C did to 1394</a>. These new CableCARD rules are still great for <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/TiVo/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">TiVo</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/Moxi/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">Moxi</a> and <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/InfiniTV/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">InfiniTV</a> customers, but the dream of <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/AllVid/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">AllVid</a> seems destined to follow a similar fate with 2011 half way over and almost no progress towards the promise of a 2012 deployment made.

We're not exactly sure what is so complicated about building CableCARD tuners, but after being bitten by the inevitable delay bug Silicondust says it is ready to ship the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/05/23/6-tuner-hdhomerun-prime-went-on-sale-today/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">six tuner version</a> of its <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/hdhomerunprime/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">HDHomeRun Prime</a>. A tweet went out earlier stating Newegg would be forwarding the units to customers beginning tomorrow, while a post on the company forums confirms the first shipment leaving their location just a short while ago. Unfortunately that still leave the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/05/14/hdhomerun-prime-tv-tuner-is-officially-available-for-preorders-f/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">$249 three tuner version</a> twisting in the wind, but if you preordered just hang in there, more word is promised "later this week."

It seems like just yesterday that we couldn't find a <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/cablecard?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">CableCARD</a> tuner anywhere, and news that <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/hauppauge/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">Hauppauge</a> has has announced a name, price for <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/09/12/hauppauge-to-expand-its-offerings-to-include-a-cablecard-tuner/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">its new device</a> highlights what has suddenly become a flood of ways to get pay-TV on your HTPC. <i>MissingRemote </i>dug up a post on Hauppauge's Facebook page announcing the dual tuner WinTV-DCR-2650, which it developed in partnership with SiliconDust and plans to ship by the end of this month for just $129. It's already certified by CableLabs so everything appears to be ready to go, with preorders apparently ready to begin Monday through the company's direct store and Amazon. Are any of you canceling a <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/05/14/hdhomerun-prime-tv-tuner-is-officially-available-for-preorders-f/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">HDHomeRun</a>/<a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/06/07/infinitv-4-cablecard-tuner-adds-100-instant-rebate-new-retaile/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">InfiniTV 4</a> order and switching over?<br />

With less than two weeks to go until the very same <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/10/14/the-fcc-changes-the-cablecard-rules-but-not-dramatically/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">FCC requirement (FCC-10-81)</a> goes into effect, a <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/04/08/cisco-sta1520-sdv-tuning-adapter-impressions/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">Cisco Tuning Adapter</a> in the wild received the F.1402 firmware update that upgrades it from double to quadruple duty. This is fantastic news for those who already have a <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/03/30/ceton-infinitv-4-cablecard-tuner-review/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">Ceton InfiniTV 4</a> on a system that uses <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/07/02/ask-engadget-hd-what-is-switched-digital-video-sdv/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">Switched Digital Video</a>, as it will eliminate the need for one more set-top box, but should also be good news to the company who formally requested <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/CableLabs/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">CableLabs</a> change the spec to require four tuners in the first place; TiVo. No way to know exactly when this firmware update will roll out, but we're sure we're not alone when we say we hope it brings some much needed stability along with it.

While there's no official price drop yet, Ceton has officially authorized several new retailers for the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/infinitv4/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">InfiniTV 4</a> CableCARD tuner, and announced partnerships with several new retailers. The <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/06/05/infinitv-4-cablecard-tuner-prices-are-dropping-down-to-256-shi/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">shocking price drops spotted over the weekend</a> seem to have mostly dried up -- the $282 eBay auction shows 3 left, Amazon's super low offer has disappeared, Buy.com is sold out and Erwin Computer's price is up to $278. However, the addition of new retail partners means snagging a card for $299 is easier than ever, and while that may not put some Hamiltons back in your pocket it should at least provide some peace of mind.

Whether it's due to pressure from SiliconDust's <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/hdhomerunprime/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">HDHomeRun Prime</a> or as a result of <a href="http://hd.engadget.com/2011/05/04/hands-on-and-unboxing-the-infinitv-4-v2/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">simplified hardware</a> is unclear, but Ceton's <a href="http://hd.engadget.com/tag/infinitv4/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">InfiniTV 4</a> CableCARD tuner is now available for as little as $256 shipped. Forum posters at <i>Missing Remote</i> noticed a $282 fire sale for the HTPC cable TV adapters going on eBay Friday, before prices dropped precipitously at Buy.com ($264), and an Amazon third party ($265). Lesser known Erwin Computers currently claims the lowest price, while Ceton's official Amazon listing and those of other resellers like Cannon PC and Fluid Digital remain at the $399 MSRP -- for now. What your eyes are gazing upon here is the new six tuner HDHomeRun Prime CableCARD device that went on sale today at Newegg and is expected to ship on July 18th. As <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/05/14/hdhomerun-prime-tv-tuner-is-officially-available-for-preorders-f/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">expected</a>, it is basically two <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/01/06/hands-on-with-the-hdhomerun-prime-cablecard-tuner?icid=sphere_blogsmith_inpage_engadget?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">HDHomeRun Prime</a>s in a single case, that uses a single internal power supply, but requires two CableCARDs, two coax inputs and two network drops. The case would fit pretty nicely in most racks too, with the included ears, or you can use the pictured feet and set it on another piece of equipment. As for software, currently it only works with <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/Windows7/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">Windows 7</a> Media Center and will require either the elusive Advanced Entertainment Pack or the not-so-official TunerSalad add-in else you'll only be able to use four of the six tuners. Two more pictures including one of the back after the break.

Forgotten what AllVid is already? Click <a href="http://hd.engadget.com/2010/03/17/a-cablecard-replacement-is-due-by-december-2012-bandaids-by-thi/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">here</a> for more detail on the standard companies <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/02/18/google-best-buy-sony-and-others-form-alliance-to-defend-fccs/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">like Google and Sony </a>are fighting for that would potentially let users directly access cable or satellite TV streams without a box. As one of the media companies trying to convince the FCC that the new <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/allvid/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">AllVid</a> replacement for CableCARD is unnecessary, Fox recently called the FCC and informed it of negotiations with a pay-TV service that wanted to license channels and VOD for streaming to videogame consoles. Even as it frets over Time Warner's <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/04/15/time-warner-cable-brings-back-discovery-fox-channels-to-its-ipa/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">TWCable iPad app</a>, the filing suggests there's plenty of innovation going on and availability of content for consumer electronics devices already. Of course, pending any regulatory decisions we can only wonder which consoles or providers could be involved (our money is on the aforementioned <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/01/06/samsung-teams-up-to-access-tv-vod-from-time-warner-and-comcast-on/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">Time Warner</a>, but Cablevision, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/01/09/could-this-be-the-year-we-get-to-ditch-the-cable-box/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">Comcast and all the rest are working on technology of their own</a>, while AT&amp;T finally brought its U-Verse to the Xbox here in the US last <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/10/07/atandt-u-verse-customers-can-use-xbox-360-as-a-set-top-box-startin/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">fall</a>) but this should keep the rumor mill going until something is actually announced.
