Treyarch has released an update for the Wii U version of Call of Duty: Ghosts adding a platform-exclusive Scoreboard feature and smoothing out a long list of multiplayer issues. Post-update, the Wii U version of Call of Duty: Ghosts now features a GamePad Scoreboard panel, letting players sneak a quick glance at their multiplayer stats mid-battle. The Scoreboard also lets players mute annoying opponents easily using the GamePad's touchscreen. The latest patch additionally improves texture resolution during certain Campaign mode missions and fixes numerous multiplayer bugs, spawn issues, and lobby-related crashes. The full list of improvements is after the break below.

  • PlayStation 4 enjoys most successful launch week in UK history

The PlayStation 4 had the best launch week in the UK of any gaming system to date, and in the words of Chart Track it "eclipsed" the Xbox One's sales from the week before. There's no confirmed numbers, but we know the country's previous fastest-seller is the PSP, and it sold 185,000 units across its debut week in 2005. The long and short: The PS4 done good. British industry site MCV put the PS4's opening week sales at 250,000, according to its retail sources. MCV also pinned the Xbox One's UK numbers at 150,000, but again that figure is unconfirmed. In any case, the good news is both consoles are enjoying successful launches both in the UK and across the globe; Sony announced 1 million PS4 sales within 24 hours of the console's debut in North America, a figure Microsoft also hit when it launched the Xbox One across 13 markets worldwide. As for this week's software charts, there's some predictable shuffling with the console launches. Call of Duty: Ghosts drifted back to the top, after FIFA 14 stole ahead last week with the Xbox One Day One bundles. The rest of the top ten is made up by games available across Xbox One and PS4, with the exception of Grand Theft Auto 5 in seventh, and Batman: Arkham Origins in tenth. The charts don't read so well for the Wii U, though. The system's standout holiday game, Super Mario 3D World, debuted in 14th place, just behind PS4 launch game Knack in 13th.

Call of Duty: Ghosts is the No. 1 game, in terms of sales, for the PS4 and it's the top pre-ordered game for the Xbox One in North America across Target, Best Buy, Gamestop and Wal Mart, Activision announced today. Clan Wars, the app metagame for Ghosts, kicks off on Monday, November 25. Clan Wars spawned from Call of Duty Elite's Clan Operations and it adds a layer of competition to multiplayer matches, allowing clans to compete for extra goals specific to the different game modes. Playing the right mode in the right area allows clans to earn points and get in-game bonuses. It's all detailed on One of Swords.

  • Call of Duty: Ghosts scares off Lego Marvel Super Heroes in UK charts

Even the combined power of Lego Marvel Super Heroes failed to bust Ghosts, after the latest Call of Duty made it two weeks in a row as the UK's best-seller. Activision released the Xbox One version of Ghosts ahead of the console's launch this week, and it reached 10th in the individual formats charts. Combined with the already charting PS4 version, that's a lot of Brits already ready for some next-gen CoD. While Lego Marvel Super Heroes couldn't soar right to the top, Chart Track says its first week performance is the second best for a Lego game ever. The Lego game that bettered it? Lego Indiana Jones: The Original Adventures. There are two other debutantes in the UK top 40, with PS3 platformer Ratchet & Clank: Into the Nexus coming in 21st and standalone expansion XCOM: Enemy Unknown a little lower in 25th. Otherwise, as far as the UK charts is concerned it's the calm before the storm. The Xbox One kicks off the next-gen pandemonium on November 22, then the following week it's the PlayStation 4 on November 29.

Retail copies of Call of Duty: Ghosts will require a patch on PlayStation 4 in order to fix resolution problems that stem from a "configuration issue" in the game's single player campaign. Players that dive into the game's single-player missions without the update would encounter a campaign mode that is upscaled from 720p as opposed to the game's expected 1080p resolution. "Call of Duty: Ghosts runs natively at 1080p on the PlayStation 4. There was a configuration issue in the retail version on single player mode only," Activision told Joystiq in a statement. "This has been addressed with a day one software update. People will be able to download the day one update when PlayStation 4 launches in their territory and play at native 1080p." Infinity Ward Executive Producer Mark Rubin said in late October that the game runs at a native resolution of 1080p (1920x1080) on PS4 and that the developer "optimized each console to hit 60 FPS and the game looks great on both."

  • Call of Duty: Ghostbusters tests ricochet kills, antisocial dogs, more

With every new Call of Duty release, the internet spawns dozens of myths about things found in the game that may or may not actually exist. Helpfully, the Call of Duty: Ghostbusters are here to help. The clip you see above owes a heavy debt to the Discovery Channel's Mythbusters. The premise here is the same: Present demonstrators with a seemingly implausible in-game situation, test said situation, then report on the findings. As a result of this rigorous testing - which, granted, could have been faked for unknown reasons - we now know a number of new things. For instance, guard dogs will attack one another if there are no heavily-armed people nearby to maul. Even better, though, is a sequence at the 2:00 mark, where our demonstrators test the idea that a sniper could kill a person by bouncing a shot off of one of the game's riot shields. Conceptually, that's as awesome as it is silly, but as the video demonstrates, it totally works. This clip is the first episode of Call of Duty: Ghostbusters, so expect more such efforts until the community grows tired of having their fanciful notions crushed by cold, hard facts.

  • Call of Duty: Ghosts tops this week's UK charts

There are no frights in the UK's Halloween charts, where Call of Duty: Ghosts is of course the new number one. That said, there is one surprising presence in its retail showing: Behind a 62 percent share of the sales on Xbox 360 and 34 percent on PS3, the PS4 comes in as the game's third best-selling platform at 3 percent - beating the Wii U. Activision released the game's PS4 version ahead of the console's UK launch on November 29, and you'd have to say it's performed well for something that can't even be played yet. It's not all sunshine and lollipops for Activision, as retail sources told MCV that Ghosts' UK launch sales are 50 percent down on last year's Black Ops 2. if MCV's figures are accurate, they're likely to do with the impending next-gen launches. We'll see just how much they account for when the Xbox One and PS4 arrive later this month. As for what's going on beneath Ghosts, former no. 1 Assassin's Creed 4 tumbles to third, while Battlefield 4 holds steady in second. Meanwhile, the relatively early arrival of Professor Layton fails to enchant the top ten, with concluding chapter Azran Legacy debuting in 13th.

Internet sleuths have found Call of Duty: Ghosts and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 share some strikingly similar sequences. Did Infinity Ward reproduce or re-purpose animations and assets from Modern Warfare 2 for Ghosts? It's hard to argue against this side-by-side comparison video. We've reached out to Activision for comment and will update this post when we hear back.

  • Activision: Call of Duty: Ghosts has shipped $1 billion worth into retail

The video game industry is now a battle of billion dollar launches, with Activision announcing this morning that Call of Duty: Ghosts has shipped a billion dollars worth of the game into retail. The semi-awkward victory lap comes on the day Activision is set to announce its second quarter results. "Call of Duty is by far the largest console franchise of this generation," said Activision CEO Bobby Kotick as part of the announcement – a very, very accurate assessment. "And in the last 12 months, Call of Duty: Black Ops 2, including its digital content, generated more revenues than any other console game ever has in a single year. Although it is too early to assess sell-through for Call of Duty: Ghosts, it's launching at a time when the franchise has never been more popular." The billion dollar mark was likely chosen to contrast the game's accomplishment with that of Grand Theft Auto 5, which sold $1 billion to consumers in three days, where as Call of Duty shipped a billion dollars worth of game to retail stores. Call of Duty: Ghosts was the "most pre-ordered" game at GameStop this year.

It's seriously lacking in Swayze, but Call of Duty: Ghosts still notches three and a half stars in our review. • Call of Duty: Ghosts PS4 review: Haunted by the past

    by

    11.05.2013

Call of Duty: Ghosts represents a new set of challenges for Activision's flagship series. Ghosts marks the first game to transition to a new generation of platforms since the franchise gained its fame with Modern Warfare, and it raises the question "Does the Call of Duty formula still work?" With a highly-touted new engine in tow, Ghosts is Infinity Ward's first major shift in the series since it moved out of the Second World War. But Infinity Ward – along with a handful of other developers, including Neversoft and Raven – has delivered a largely by-the-numbers installment in Call of Duty: Ghosts. It layers a fresh coat of paint over a tired design document; a document that brings players down a rote campaign path before landing them in a multiplayer mode that abandons many of the creative advancements seen in Black Ops 2. While even a routine Call of Duty still brings with it a blockbuster ride through exciting engagements, and its multiplayer experience can compete with the industry's best, Call of Duty: Ghosts is a step in the wrong direction for the series and a stumble into the next generation.

  • Watch for falling buildings in Call of Duty: Ghosts' 'Free Fall' pre-order map

Pre-order Call of Duty: Ghosts and you'll be given free access to the newly-revealed Free Fall map, a virtual arena that eschews dusty backstreets and narrow alleys in favor of a skyscraper that's seen better days. "Free Fall's close-quarters combat and frenetic action are thrown into overdrive as the ruined skyscraper continues to fall throughout the match, an example of Call of Duty: Ghosts' new dynamic multiplayer events," reads the map's official description. "With every drop, the accompanying shockwaves cause further destruction, disrupting sightlines and constantly evolving paths and chokepoints as the map changes in real-time." As you can see in the announcement trailer above, this shifting landscape adds a novel twist to typical Call of Duty firefights. On the one hand, the collapsing building can occasionally provide useful cover or a comfy spot from which to snipe your foes. On the other, you may occasionally be crushed by giant chunks of concrete, torn apart by worryingly agile militarized dogs, or casually walk through a formerly intact window. If this trailer has convinced you to pre-order Call of Duty: Ghosts, you can find everything you need at the game's official website.

  • Call of Duty: Ghosts shoots for 60fps everywhere, native resolution higher on PS4

Call of Duty: Ghosts runs at a native resolution of 1080p (1920x1080) on PlayStation and 1080p upscaled from 720p (1280x720) on Xbox One, Infinity Ward Executive Producer Mark Rubin said via TwitLonger. This may be a factor for those deciding on which version of the game to purchase come this November, weighed against the Xbox One's timed exclusive DLC deal. "We optimized each console to hit 60 FPS and the game looks great on both," Rubin said. "Still on the road, but glad to see the great reception to Extinction. Can't wait for next week's launch." Extinction is an alien-infested, co-op wave mode announced for Ghosts earlier this week. In related ghosts news, it's Halloween tomorrow! Oh, and those who order the game for PS3 through PSN can begin pre-loading it at 3PM PT on November 3. On Xbox 360, the game requires less than 3GB free to install the single-player campaign, but the multiplayer component doesn't require any install. For PC players, here are your minimum requirements.

Gunning down zombies has grown a bit cliché, so to shake things up in Call of Duty: Ghosts the developers at Infinity Ward have decided to pit the near-future's most bankable soldiers against slathering extraterrestrial villains. Not unlike the Horde mode seen in Gears of War, the Extinction game type in Ghosts pits a team of one to four players against waves of fast, strong alien invaders. Activision's official description describes the mode as a "unique blend of fast-paced survival action, FPS base defense, scavenging and class leveling." Whether this new mode replaces the zombie battles fans have come to love in prior Call of Duty entries remains to be seen. Extinction is currently slated to launch alongside Call of Duty: Ghosts when that game debuts on November 5.

Activision has revealed the final system requirements for the PC version of Call of Duty: Ghosts, a game that requires a large chunk of your hard drive, a sizable amount of RAM and most crucially, a 64-bit operating system. As with all "minimum requirements" lists, those who have hardware that exceeds the specifications laid out by Activision will see improved performance. That said, those who meet the following list of requirements should find the game playable (if not stunning) on their computer: Minimum System Requirements: OS: Windows 7 64-Bit / Windows 8 64-Bit CPU: Intel® Core™ 2 Duo E8200 2.66 GHZ / AMD Phenom™ X3 8750 2.4 GHZ or better Memory: 6 GB RAM Hard Disk Space: 40 GB Video: NVIDIA® GeForce® GTS 450 / ATI® Radeon™ HD 5870 or better Sound: DirectX compatible sound card DirectX®: DirectX® 11 Internet: Broadband Internet connection for Steam and Online Multiplayer. Alongside this hardware list, Activision also states that Call of Duty: Ghosts "is set to be one of the best Call of Duty experiences ever." Whether or not that claims holds up will remain a mystery until the game's debut on November 5.

In its ongoing efforts to push players toward the PlayStation 4, Sony has added four new games to the PlayStation Network Store, all of which can be pre-ordered right now. This initiative kicked off last week, as Knack and Warframe pre-order options appeared on the PlayStation Network Store. Today, these games are joined by Assassin's Creed IV, Battlefield 4, Call of Duty: Ghosts and Killzone Shadow Fall. Additionally, the PSN also offers pre-orders on the limited Gold Edition of Assassin's Creed IV, as well as the Hardened Edition of Call of Duty: Ghosts. As you'd expect, these special versions cost more than their standard counterparts, but they also include physical bonus items for truly dedicated fans. Alongside this news, Sony has also revealed that those who have already pre-ordered current generation versions of Battlefield 4, Assassin's Creed IV or Call of Duty: Ghosts can upgrade their pre-order to the PlayStation 4 iteration of those games for $10. You can find full details on how this process works by visiting Sony's upgrade page, or you can visit the Sony Entertainment Network to place your pre-orders.
