The third downloadable map pack for Call of Duty: World at War -- titled, oddly enough, "Map Pack 3" -- will deploy on Xbox Live Marketplace and PlayStation Network this Thursday, August 6. It'll run 800 ($10) and $9.99, respectively. It's bringing three new maps on which to make your friends (virtually) dead, along with more undead. In other CoD news, Activision has launched the free Call of Duty: World at War Companion app for iPhone [App Store link]. With it, players who've linked their gamertags / PSN IDs to the CoD: WaW site can browse detailed stats, realtime leaderboards and compare their performance against friends. We also imagine it'd make a great first date icebreaker.[Thanks, eXHausT II!]Source -- Map Pack, August 6th! Source -- CoD:WaW Companion iPhone Application

If thrashing guitars, zombies and Call of Duty: World at War are all things you enjoy, we have a treat for you! The above trailer for Map Pack 3, a new set of maps featuring three locales for multiplayer and one zombie-specific map, incorporates all of these things while highlighting the exploits of a group of Russian soldiers fighting off hordes of the undead. If you've enlisted for duty in all of the previous map packs (a very real possibility), then you'll probably be foaming at the mouth for this new bit of DLC while watching. Just, uh, check and see if you have glowing eyes. You may just be a zombie yourself.

It's eight minutes footage of next month's Call of Duty: World at War Map Pack 2! Alright, alright, it's not the entire map pack, but it does feature the Russian trainyard themed, "Corrosion," as well as "Sub Pens," a map based in a submarine pen. Sure, we'd love to see video of the purported "hell hounds" coming to "Shi No Numa," the Nazi zombie infested part of the DLC, but wouldn't everyone? We're just going to have to wait until some more video hits the webs from WaW developer, Treyarch. For the whole schebang, hit the break and have a ball!Update: The YouTube video after the break has been replaced by a couple of GameSpy videos. Check out all their Map Pack 2 videos right here.[Thanks, John H.!]

Activision just sent word that the multiplayer map DLC for Call of Duty: World at War (otherwise known as Map Pack 1) has surpassed a combined worldwide download milestone of 2 million units across the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. Needless to say, Activision seems pleased ... and why wouldn't it be? Map Pack 1 already broke Xbox Live sales records, selling one million units in its first week of availability.Treyarch studio head, Mark Lamia, took a moment to comment on the "milestone," thanking the loyal community of World at War players for supporting the game -- and presumably, for not being completely tired of World War II themed shooters. Lamia also reminds gamers the World at War team expects to deliver new DLC sometime this June.

What do you do after selling one million Call of Duty: World at War map packs during their first week of availability? You make more. And, lo, Activision and developer Treyarch are doing just that, prepping a second salvo of DLC for a June release. The Call of Duty: World at War Map Pack 2 (c'mon, guys, you can surely come up with something catchier using all that dough) will introduce three new multiplayer maps: "Banzai," a jungle environment riddled with caves; "Corrosion," a Russian train yard; and "Sub Pens," a rain-drenched submarine base. That's all well and good, but now for the good stuff: a new Nazi Zombie map! "Shi No Numa," home to this guy, promises new Perk machines, a new weapon, new Achievements / Trophies and flaming Hell hounds. It also promises to keep our repository of nightmare material well-stocked.
