Carmen Sandiego is going back to its video game roots in an upcoming Netflix special. Entitled Carmen Sandiego: To Steal or Not To Steal, the interactive adventure will put you in charge of determining how the story unfolds. Like in Black Mirror: Bandersnatch, you'll have to choose between the options presented on screen, such as whether to have Carmen infiltrate a building from the top floor (less resistance, but needs high-wire stunts) or from the ground floor (riskier, since she'll have to face more guards).

If you're an '80s or '90s kid, you might remember searching the globe for the evil villainess Carmen Sandiego and her fleet of henchmen. You'd follow clues (from what was likely your first PC) based on foreign currencies, flags, languages and landmarks to track the international menace -- all without leaving your family's "computer room." Now, Google Earth is reviving the search with a series of Carmen Sandiego games.

  • Carmen Sandiego heading to Hollywood

Carmen Sandiego is ready to steal Hollywood (she already stole the sign in 1985). Walden Media is working on a big-screen adaptation of the educational series, with Jennifer "From the Block" Lopez producing and possibly starring. The story will be penned by Darren Lemke, who wrote Shrek Forever After and the coming Jack the Giant Killer. One should take this to mean it will be a family-friendly film and not an edgy reinterpretation of the master thief. The plot of the movie, according to THR, involves Carmen Sandiego's turn from the greatest detective at the ACME agency to infamous criminal. When her former colleague tries to hunt her down, he uncovers a conspiracy and "questions whether Carmen is a really a thief -- or a hero."Walden is looking for the Carmen Sandiego film to be a cross between The Thomas Crown Affair and National Treasure. As long as Rockapella is in it, we don't care if it's a cross between Heat and The Italian Job. Also, Rockapella, hit it:

Well, this is awkward. Zen Pinball 3D launches on the 3DS eShop today ... and so does the DSiWare game 101 Pinball World. If you really love handheld virtual pinball, this is like the best day ever! Elsewhere, The Learning Company and Gamelion bring the third installment of the surprisingly episodic WiiWare Carmen Sandiego series. And if you care to check Nintendo Video on your 3DS this Saturday, you can get a 3D Kirby cartoon.

Two games hit the eShop today, and they both seem worthwhile! Terry Cavanagh's devious puzzle platformer, VVVVVV, is now playable on the go, courtesy of Nicalis. Bionic Commando is also made portable, courtesy of ... the Game Boy version Capcom made years ago. On DSiWare you can get Cake Ninja, though you'd probably hate yourself for buying such an outright Fruit Ninja clone. Get it only if you're lacking a conscience, much like its developers.

A relatively obscure sequel to a very popular NES game appears on the 3DS eShop this week: Sunsoft's Blaster Master: Enemy Below for Game Boy Color. It's time to return to the world of upside-down space trucks and floating cyborg head things. WiiWare offers a new Carmen Sandiego game (what?) about math (what?) and DSiWare shows it is possible to offer a retail DS game as a download -- though that functionality has so far been almost the exclusive domain of tiny publishers. For example, today we have Elite Forces: Unit 77 from Gammick Entertainment, and a game in the spirit of a retail DS release: a new sequel to 2007's WordJong.%Gallery-141882%

Apparently Jennifer Lopez (J Lo, as you may call her) is going to produce a film version of Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego. We know nothing about the film, but it gave NMA.tv an excuse to drum up a mock trailer (complete with Rockapella reference), and that's all that matters.
