Think again. The company has announced yet another new set of headphones with an amp to keep it warm at night, but the high-end wares come at a high-end price. The ceramic IE 800 buds (&euro;599 or $787) offer a broad 5 - 46,000 Hz audio range in spite of their mere 7mm drivers, while stainless steel vents on the back supposedly "improve bass and airflow." If you need some extra <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/01/09/mophies-ruggedized-6000-mah-juice-pack-powerstation-pro-its-f/">juice</a> and don't mind forking over the premium &euro;1,499 ($1,973), the HDVD 800 headphone amp's shell is rocking anodized aluminum and a glass window for peering at the bantam circuitry within -- way over the top, but also, pretty amazing. It supports 24-bit 192kHz sources and is engineered for ideal <em>synergy</em> with Senn's HD 800, HD 700, HD 650 and HD 600. Both should hit the shelves by summer of this year.</div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/04/13/sennheiser-intros-ritzy-ie-800-headphones-and-hdvd-800-amp/">Sennheiser intros ritzy IE 800 earphones and HDVD 800 amp, your wallet screams</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Fri, 13 Apr 2012 21:42:00 EST. If invited, you'll be expecting something nice in the mail to arrive from Redmond very shortly. It's sending out test PCs powered by <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/01/13/qualcomm-snapdragon-s4-msm8960-development-tablet-hands-on-vide/">Qualcomm's Snapdragon S4 MSM8960</a> that includes the beefy LTE, camera and sensor gear we played with in our hands-on. It's intended to give developers a head-start in building and refining Metro-style apps ahead of the operating system's big debut. You can check out the consumer preview of what was shown today <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/02/29/windows-8-consumer-preview-now-available-for-download/">here</a> and if you'd like to know more, head on past the break for a sprinkling of PR.<br /> <br /> <strong>Update:</strong> It's not just Qualcomm giving away ARM silicon for free, looks like NVIDIA will be distributing Windows 8 machines powered by its Tegra 3 SoC too. PR's after the break.</div><p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/02/29/qualcomm-windows-8/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Qualcomm, Microsoft giving Snapdragon S4 PCs to Windows-on-ARM developers (update: NVIDIA handing out Tegra 3 PCs, too)</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/02/29/qualcomm-windows-8/">Qualcomm, Microsoft giving Snapdragon S4 PCs to Windows-on-ARM developers (update: NVIDIA handing out Tegra 3 PCs, too)</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Wed, 29 Feb 2012 13:08:00 EST. The 10.1 megapixel sensor inside the 1 body is sufficiently capable of shooting 2 and 4K video and bringing that functionality into the unit is planned for a future edition. There's a need for a set of brighter lenses with faster auto-focusing, although we're not sure how much bigger you can get on that petite body. It's also kicking around the option of letting V1 (i.e. more professional) users get at manual AF control and in-camera RAW editing -- while J1 users can expect plenty of features they won't use much, like in-camera effects. It's exciting stuff, but let's hope these new features don't cause the price to climb any higher, eh?</div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/02/01/nikon-1-future-plans-revealed-4k-video-brighter-lenses-pictur/">Nikon 1 future plans revealed: 4K video, brighter lenses, picture effects</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Wed, 01 Feb 2012 11:39:00 EST. It reportedly cost between $175 - $200 million and is expected to be merged into the company's super-low power <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/10/04/mirasol-displays-slated-for-converged-devices-in-q1-2011-foll/">Mirasol-based</a> displays. If this is true, it looks like one of the jilted partners in the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/01/19/sony-ericsson-317-million-loss/">Sony Ericsson</a> split is doing all it can to ruin the nice surprises planned for next month's <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/MWC">MWC</a>. An image has appeared at <em>Xperia Blog</em> that purports to be of the ST25i Kumquat, which, if you've been paying attention is the cheapest of the three phones due in April listed on the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/01/18/leaked-sony-2012-smartphone-roadmap/">leaked roadmap</a> from a few days ago. The design language matches the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/01/06/sony-ericssons-nozomi-gets-handled-something-awfully-similar-g/">Nozomi</a> and the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/01/09/sony-xperia-arc-s-hands-on/">Xperia S</a> we played with at <a href="http://www.engadget.com/ces/">CES</a>, but the on-screen icons are clearly bigger: pointing us in the direction of this having a cheaper display (with a worse resolution) than its brothers. Some years those are easy to spot (tablets and 3D TV were two big ones recently), and other times they involve a bit of guesswork. This year, one of the most oft-cited trends is the "ultrabook." Judging from the companies' announcements at the show and some of the coverage they've received, you might think that's a new sort of device or a radically new type of laptop. But, really, they're just laptops. Small, thin laptops -- but laptops.<br /> <br /> It's actually Ultrabook, with a capital "U," and a (TM). The name is a wholly-owned creation of Intel, and the hype you've seen for them at CES is only just the beginning. Intel is <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/01/10/intel-mounting-biggest-advertising-campaign-since-2003-for-ult/">reportedly</a> planning its biggest advertising push in eight years to promote Ultrabooks, and it's clearly already done a decent job of bringing hardware manufacturers on board the bandwagon. How many new "laptop" announcements do you remember from CES?</div><p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/01/19/editorial-dont-call-it-an-ultrabook/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Editorial: Don't call it an ultrabook</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/01/19/editorial-dont-call-it-an-ultrabook/">Editorial: Don't call it an ultrabook</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Thu, 19 Jan 2012 18:00:00 EST. Nuance, of <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/09/06/nuance-dragon-dictate-2-5-for-mac-review/">Dragon Dictation</a> fame, got all excited and lifted the lid on which company's voice recognition technology was powering the unit (hint: it's Nuance). Thanks to the handy press release after the break, we've learnt that if you bellow "Lady Gaga" into the unit, it'll return materials related to Ms Germanotta herself -- although if you've seen Jack Donaghy's voice-activated TV from <em>30 Rock</em>, you might not be too convinced that you can kiss goodbye to buttons just yet.</div><p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/01/18/lgs-magic-remote-is-powered-by-nuance/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>LG's Magic Remote is powered by Nuance</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/01/18/lgs-magic-remote-is-powered-by-nuance/">LG's Magic Remote is powered by Nuance</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Wed, 18 Jan 2012 14:09:00 EST. The Beats, arriving in November for $399, features 1080p 60fps video capture with a 130-degree field of view and a 270-degree rotatable lens, along with built-in GPS, accelerometer and heart rate monitor (via wireless chest belt) for those keen on recording some extra data. Most importantly, though, is its WiFi connectivity with any iPhone or Android device: not only can you do wireless file transfer with it, but much like the way <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/04/03/contourgps-helmetcam-connect-view-app-hands-on/">ContourGPS Connect View app</a> works, you can also use your phone as a wireless viewfinder. Pretty handy for when the camera's stuck on a helmet, of course.<br /><br />The Cham&eacute;l&eacute;on, on the other hand, is slated for a September launch at $199 only. While it doesn't have all those fancy wireless features, it boasts two 180-degree rotatable lenses (with a 110-degree field of view) at each end of the long body: one moves horizontally, and the other moves vertically; hence the name. The idea is that the camera can simultaneously capture 720p 30fps footage from both lenses (there's only one camera controller inside), and then output a synchronized horizontal or vertical split-screen video clip. We can already picture the Cham&eacute;l&eacute;on being used on a surfing board or in a racing car, so there's certainly great potential here. Anyhow, enjoy our hands-on photos while you imagine the adrenaline rush.<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/oregon-scientific-unveils-atc-beats-wifi-sportscam-and-atc-cham-l-on-dual-lens-camera/">Oregon Scientific unveils ATC Beats WiFi sportscam and ATC Chaméléon dual-lens camera</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/oregon-scientific-unveils-atc-beats-wifi-sportscam-and-atc-cham-l-on-dual-lens-camera/#4756922"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/01/dsc0856_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/oregon-scientific-unveils-atc-beats-wifi-sportscam-and-atc-cham-l-on-dual-lens-camera/#4756920"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/01/atc-cam-2012-01-1110_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/oregon-scientific-unveils-atc-beats-wifi-sportscam-and-atc-cham-l-on-dual-lens-camera/#4756921"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/01/atc-cam-2012-01-11_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/oregon-scientific-unveils-atc-beats-wifi-sportscam-and-atc-cham-l-on-dual-lens-camera/#4756911"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/01/atc-cam-2012-01-111_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/oregon-scientific-unveils-atc-beats-wifi-sportscam-and-atc-cham-l-on-dual-lens-camera/#4756912"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/01/atc-cam-2012-01-112_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/01/17/oregon-scientific-unveils-atc-beats-wifi-sports-cam-and-atc-cham/">Oregon Scientific unveils ATC Beats WiFi sports cam and ATC Chaméléon dual-lens camera</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Tue, 17 Jan 2012 05:01:00 EST. On the left we have the entry-level clock that's already out in the market, whereas the bigger "<a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/01/08/oregon-scientifics-time-and-wireless-charging-station-does-wha/">plus</a>" model on the right made its debut at the show, boasting the extra clock projection and weather forecast feature. Also shown along side were the customized iPhone 4 <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/qi">Qi</a> sleeves that Oregon Scientific will be offering online, and they actually had pretty high quality finish, too, especially with the texture coating on top of them. Nope, it's not one of those clock and weather projectors, but rather an actual DLP pico projector. At CES 2012, the company was kind enough to show us an early prototype of its Portable WiFi Projector that'll handle FWVGA (854 x 480) at 1,000:1 contrast and a good 80 lumens of brightness (50 if powered by USB alone). Apparently at 3.2 meters from the wall, such combination should produce a clear 120-inch wide picture in total darkness, so we shall see. The final unit -- dummy pictured above -- will be slightly smaller than the working prototype, yet it'll pack a 90-degree hinge (<a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/11/10/wowwee-cinemin-slice-takes-the-pico-out-of-your-pocket/">not</a> a <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/12/03/wowwee-cinemin-swivel-ipod-and-iphone-pico-projector-review/">first</a>, of course), a focus slide, a 3.5mm headphone jack and some buttons for brightness, power and volume.<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/oregon-scientifics-portable-wifi-projector-comes-with-a-hinge-flirts-with-your-ceiling-0/">Oregon Scientific's Portable WiFi Projector comes with a hinge, flirts with your ceiling</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/oregon-scientifics-portable-wifi-projector-comes-with-a-hinge-flirts-with-your-ceiling-0/#4756372"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/01/dsc0883-1326761106_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/oregon-scientifics-portable-wifi-projector-comes-with-a-hinge-flirts-with-your-ceiling-0/#4756384"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/01/os-projector-2012-01-11-1326761128_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/oregon-scientifics-portable-wifi-projector-comes-with-a-hinge-flirts-with-your-ceiling-0/#4756375"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/01/os-projector-2012-01-113-1326761110_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/oregon-scientifics-portable-wifi-projector-comes-with-a-hinge-flirts-with-your-ceiling-0/#4756373"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/01/os-projector-2012-01-111-1326761108_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/oregon-scientifics-portable-wifi-projector-comes-with-a-hinge-flirts-with-your-ceiling-0/#4756374"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/01/os-projector-2012-01-112-1326761109_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/01/16/oregon-scientific-portable-wifi-projector-with-hinge/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Oregon Scientific's Portable WiFi Projector comes with a hinge, flirts with your ceiling</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/01/16/oregon-scientific-portable-wifi-projector-with-hinge/">Oregon Scientific's Portable WiFi Projector comes with a hinge, flirts with your ceiling</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Mon, 16 Jan 2012 22:14:00 EST. But there was one icon who had more product tie-ins than anyone else. Yep, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/hello+kitty">Kitty-chan</a> was in attendance and she had plenty of pink paraphernalia to hawk to unsuspecting fans of all things <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/cute"><em>kawaii</em></a>. We've collated together all the gear spotted at CES and, fortunately, there was more than just a few phone cases and laptop bags. Merchandise spotted includes Kitty-themed karaoke machines, alarm clocks with mounted laser <strike>cannons</strike> projectors, cordless phones and more. A brief video tour of some of our favorite surprises is coming soon, but until then, enjoy all that the super-deformed cat had to offer in our gallery below.<br /><br /><em>Sean Cooper and Sean Buckley contributed to this post.</em><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/hello-kitty-at-ces-2012/">Hello Kitty at CES 2012</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/hello-kitty-at-ces-2012/#4755696"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/01/kittydsc00266mat800_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/hello-kitty-at-ces-2012/#4755682"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/01/kittydsc00607mat800_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/hello-kitty-at-ces-2012/#4755689"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/01/kittydsc00601mat800_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/hello-kitty-at-ces-2012/#4755690"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/01/kittydsc00600mat800_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/hello-kitty-at-ces-2012/#4755692"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/01/kittydsc00594mat800_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/01/16/hello-kitty-ces-2012-gallery/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Hello Kitty pays a visit to CES 2012: If you want it, we got it in pink</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/01/16/hello-kitty-ces-2012-gallery/">Hello Kitty pays a visit to CES 2012: If you want it, we got it in pink</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Mon, 16 Jan 2012 19:11:00 EST. With the majority of households already owning an HDTV, manufacturers are pressed to convince you to upgrade, and are pulling out all the stops. We've got new display technologies like OLED, 4K and Super Hi-Vision, plus more 3D and internet connected features than ever. DVRs and media streamers haven't slowed down either, so while some services focused on eliminating the set-top box, those that remained either shrunk (Roku) or added features (Boxee, TiVo, Ceton -- pictured above). The pace of the announcements made it nearly impossible to keep up with everything going on last week, so we've wrapped everything up in one neat summary available after the break.<p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/01/16/ces-2012-hdtv-and-connected-devices-round-up/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>CES 2012: HDTV and connected devices round-up</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/01/16/ces-2012-hdtv-and-connected-devices-round-up/">CES 2012: HDTV and connected devices round-up</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Mon, 16 Jan 2012 15:46:00 EST. Says Osterloh, "We're [...] working on a Windows Phone product that will be coming out soon." It's over, but it'll leave a lasting impression on us all. And by "lasting," we mean "eternal." It'll also go down as the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/01/13/ces-2012-sets-all-time-records-for-attendance-exhibitors/">most attended CES ever</a>, with more exhibitors and more product launches than ever before. Engadget as a team hit more news than ever before, covered more hands-ons than ever before and just generally sat in awe at the sheer quantity of news that flowed from the halls of the Las Vegas Convention Center. The trends this year? A fair question, indeed. Truthfully, we didn't spot a single category overshadowing the rest, but it's safe to say that LTE, slimmer-than-slim HDTVs and the promise of Windows 8 tablets kept themselves fresh in our mind. We've assembled an array of wrap-up posts to clue those in who couldn't (or would rather not) keep pace with the absolute torrent of announcements from the event, a boatload of statistics to pore over and a final video from the show.<br /><br />On a personal note, I had an absolute blast with the team. From our trailer to <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/01/11/a-behind-the-scenes-look-at-the-engadget-ces-stage/">our stage</a> within the LVCC, from the raucous Unveiled show floor to the background dings and bloops in McCarran International Airport, the past week (and change) has been truly amazing, and getting this many people who are passionate about technology into a single place is a downright magical experience. We're fortunate and humbled to be able to do this, and despite a near-total lack of sleep and some questionable food choices, we're still as jazzed as ever to fight through crowds in order to get the first shots of [insert gizmo here]. From us to you, thanks for sticking through the madness once more, and here's to another amazing year in consumer technology. We couldn't do it without you, and frankly, we wouldn't want to.<br /><br />So, what's next for us? Well, planning for CES 2013 has already begun, and we'll probably find ourselves at a few <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/01/11/apple-education-announcement-event-nyc/">Apple events</a> in the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/01/13/ipad-3-rumor-high-res-display-quad-core-lte/">near future</a>. Oh, and we'll be bringing you the blow-by-blow from Mobile World Congress in a matter of weeks. We'll sleep, as they say, when we're dead.<p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/01/16/leaving-las-vegas-team-engadget-departs-ces-2012/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Leaving Las Vegas: Team Engadget departs CES 2012</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/01/16/leaving-las-vegas-team-engadget-departs-ces-2012/">Leaving Las Vegas: Team Engadget departs CES 2012</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Mon, 16 Jan 2012 12:00:00 EST. Several, but not all, made their first appearance at this year's CES and we were itching to see how they would stack up against some <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/01/12/ainovo-79-novo7-paladin-ice-cream-sandwich-tablet-hands-on/">very</a> price-savvy devices. We were informed (several times) that these were still prototypes, but user experience differed substantially between models. Budget tablet fans can check out our impressions and a brief video summary of the Coby clan right after the break. <div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/coby-ice-cream-sandwich-tablet-family-hands-on-at-ces-2012/">Coby Ice Cream Sandwich tablet family hands-on at CES 2012</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/coby-ice-cream-sandwich-tablet-family-hands-on-at-ces-2012/#4753476"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/01/cobydsc05713mat800_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/coby-ice-cream-sandwich-tablet-family-hands-on-at-ces-2012/#4753477"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/01/cobydsc05712mat800_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/coby-ice-cream-sandwich-tablet-family-hands-on-at-ces-2012/#4753478"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/01/cobydsc05711mat800_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/coby-ice-cream-sandwich-tablet-family-hands-on-at-ces-2012/#4753475"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/01/cobydsc05714mat800_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/coby-ice-cream-sandwich-tablet-family-hands-on-at-ces-2012/#4753474"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/01/cobydsc05715mat800_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/01/16/coby-unveils-its-family-of-ice-cream-sandwich-slates-we-go-hand/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Coby unveils its family of Ice Cream Sandwich slates, we go hands-on (video)</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/01/16/coby-unveils-its-family-of-ice-cream-sandwich-slates-we-go-hand/">Coby unveils its family of Ice Cream Sandwich slates, we go hands-on (video)</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Mon, 16 Jan 2012 09:57:00 EST. Many, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/ces%202012,interview/"><em>many</em></a> interviews. Given the deluge of guests we hosted in Las Vegas this year, you could be forgiven for not keeping up -- for throwing up your hands in exasperation and making a sandwich to heal the hurt. You <em>could</em>, but you won't. That's because this year, we thought it'd be a good idea to corral all of our CES 2012 interviews into one big metallic box, and hand-pick only the plumpest, juiciest and most eyebrow-arching ones for your enjoyment. We then took those select few and put them in a smaller, spotlit box, which was affixed atop the aforementioned metallic box with a butterfly shaped bow and maybe some duck fat. Add some mood lighting, a splash of bourbon, and <em>voil&agrave;</em>. It's the CES 2012 interview roundup, and it's after the break.<p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/01/16/ces-2012-interview-roundup-video/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>CES 2012: interview roundup (video)</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/01/16/ces-2012-interview-roundup-video/">CES 2012: interview roundup (video)</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Mon, 16 Jan 2012 09:00:00 EST. That includes Sprint, which does currently have a Windows Phone in its lineup (and is apparently considering more in the "August-September time period"), but remains decidedly unenthusiastic about the platform as a whole. As <em>PCMag</em> reports, Sprint's David Owens said that the carrier is willing to train its reps on Windows Phone, but that Microsoft has to "build the enthusiasm for the product," adding that the "number-one reason the product was returned was the user experience." Sprint's director of product development, <span id="intellitxt" name="intellitxt">Lois Fagan</span>, further added that the carrier remains "cautiously optimistic," but that Windows Phone "just hasn't taken off." In other news, Owens also confirmed that Sprint would expectedly now be focusing all of its intention on its new LTE network, and not produce any more WiMAX-based phones -- although, as it's <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/12/06/sprint-lte-phones-to-arrive-in-the-second-half-of-2012/">noted previously</a> Sprint will continue to support the network itself through 2015.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/01/16/sprint-remains-tepid-on-windows-phone-at-ces-confirms-no-new-wi/">Sprint remains tepid on Windows Phone at CES, confirms no new WiMAX phones are planned</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Mon, 16 Jan 2012 03:36:00 EST. There was one thing, however, that stuck out to us as we played with the company's top-tier model, the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/01/12/gobandit-live-gps-camcorder-with-wifi/">GoBandit Live</a>: WiFi. And let's be very careful with words here, because these full HD cams don't find WiFi hotspots -- they <em>are</em> WiFi hotspots. This means that not only can you upload your vids to another device, you can broadcast them live. Here's how it works: download the companion iOS app (the company's working to have Android compatibility soon), activate the cam's WiFi and either load your vids or view them live. The model GoBandit had on hand was still a prototype model, so unfortunately we weren't able to put it to the full test yet, though we at least were able to snap a few pics for the gallery below. Available in March, it comes in two flavors: the Live, which offers GPS and WiFi, and the Race, which doesn't. The pair will go for $419 and $319, respectively.<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/gobandit-hands-on/">GoBandit hands-on</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/gobandit-hands-on/#4751470"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/01/jrv9dsc00664_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/gobandit-hands-on/#4751464"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/01/jrv3dsc00653_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/gobandit-hands-on/#4751462"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/01/jrv1dsc00650_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/gobandit-hands-on/#4751463"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/01/jrv2dsc00651_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/gobandit-hands-on/#4751465"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/01/jrv4dsc00655_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /><br /><em>Joseph Volpe contributed to this post.</em><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/01/16/gobandit-wifi-helmet-cam-hands-on/">GoBandit WiFi helmet cam hands-on</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Mon, 16 Jan 2012 01:20:00 EST. It's Turtle Beach's flagship gaming headset, featuring adjustable Dolby 5.1 virtual surround sound, a non-A2DP dual-pairing Bluetooth radio for picking up phone calls during gaming sessions, a 15 hour rechargeable battery and dual-band 2.4/5GHZ built-in WiFi.<br /> <br /> The actual over-the-ear pieces have a much better layout from previous models, though there are almost as many buttons as there are on the controller you'd be wielding -- with volume up / down, chat volume up / down, mute, Bluetooth pairing, limiter button and tone buttons. The included dual-band WiFi adapter that connects to your gaming console of choice is small and pretty minimalistic in design. The adjustable surround angles feature seems useful but we can't help but to feel it's a bit gimmicky -- we have a hard time figuring out which setting is better. One feature that we really like is the new Limiter function, which allows you to keep the volume relatively high to listen for those footsteps (lower in volume) but won't blow your ear drums out when a RPG rocket (explosion-like volume levels) hits you in the face. The sound was also crisp and loud as we completed our spec-op mission at the Turtle Beach gaming booth, where the headset's noise-blocking abilities proved to be particularly handy. Hit up the gallery below for a close look at the $220 gaming headset set to be available this quarter. <div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/turtle-beach-xp400-adaptive-surround-sound-headset-ears-on/">Turtle Beach XP400 adaptive surround sound headset (ears-on)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/turtle-beach-xp400-adaptive-surround-sound-headset-ears-on/#4750218"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/01/dsc0058-1326479204_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/turtle-beach-xp400-adaptive-surround-sound-headset-ears-on/#4750199"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/01/dsc0040_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/turtle-beach-xp400-adaptive-surround-sound-headset-ears-on/#4750200"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/01/dsc0041_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/turtle-beach-xp400-adaptive-surround-sound-headset-ears-on/#4750201"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/01/dsc0042-1326479120_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/turtle-beach-xp400-adaptive-surround-sound-headset-ears-on/#4750202"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/01/dsc0043_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /> <br /> <em>Joe Pollicino contributed to this report.</em></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/01/15/turtle-beach-xp400-wireless-gaming-headset-hands-on/">Turtle Beach XP400 wireless gaming headset hands-on</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Sun, 15 Jan 2012 23:37:00 EST. Like the tablet app, the automotive-spec MoodGrid has a graph with Positive, Calm, Energetic and Dark on each axis. Place your finger anywhere between those points and the system scours your iPhone, iPod or Android device for tracks to match your mood. The automotive version uses a five-by-five grid and a new tablet version has the potential to tap into subscription music services to serve up the tunes. Check out the hands-on video <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/01/13/hands-on-with-gracenotes-automotive-grade-moodgrid/#continued">after the break</a> and expect to see MoodGrid in dealerships sometime this year.<p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/01/15/hands-on-with-gracenotes-automotive-grade-moodgrid/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Hands-on with Gracenote's automotive-grade MoodGrid</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/01/15/hands-on-with-gracenotes-automotive-grade-moodgrid/">Hands-on with Gracenote's automotive-grade MoodGrid</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Sun, 15 Jan 2012 21:53:00 EST. Far off the beaten path of glitzy booths and familiar brand names, we discovered a few companies that are looking to bring Android gadgetry into automobiles. One that exemplifies this nascent product realm is known as <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/09/03/rydeen-hopes-to-cash-in-on-tablet-fever-with-android-based-arma/">Rydeen</a>. While many of its creations remain merely prototypes, the firm is close to completion of a double-DIN <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/carstereo,android">stereo head unit</a> that runs Android 2.2. Then, imagine our surprise when we discovered a functional version of Froyo running from within a rear-view mirror. By the company's own admission, it has no interest to bring a stock Android experience to the reflective surface, but rather is treating this project as a learning experience. By 2013, it hopes to show a finalized mirror with a simplified interface more appropriate for drivers. We happened to grab a brief hands-on video with both models, along with the Android head unit. While we'd be hesitant to use any of the samples in their current state, each provides a fine glimpse into some of the consumer products that we may see in the desert next year.<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/android-double-din-car-stereo-and-rear-view-mirror-hands-on-video/">Android double-DIN car stereo and rear-view mirror, hands-on (video)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/android-double-din-car-stereo-and-rear-view-mirror-hands-on-video/#4753497"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/01/gallery-dsc01015_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/android-double-din-car-stereo-and-rear-view-mirror-hands-on-video/#4753498"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/01/gallery-dsc01017_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/android-double-din-car-stereo-and-rear-view-mirror-hands-on-video/#4753499"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/01/gallery-dsc01018_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/android-double-din-car-stereo-and-rear-view-mirror-hands-on-video/#4753500"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/01/gallery-dsc01021_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/android-double-din-car-stereo-and-rear-view-mirror-hands-on-video/#4753501"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/01/gallery-dsc01023_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/01/15/android-integration-for-cars-hands-on-video/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Android integration for car stereos and rear-view mirrors, hands-on (video)</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/01/15/android-integration-for-cars-hands-on-video/">Android integration for car stereos and rear-view mirrors, hands-on (video)</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Sun, 15 Jan 2012 19:14:00 EST. Unfortunately (but not surprisingly) the company wasn't letting us take footage with the kit, but we were allowed plenty of unsupervised time with the device. You'll notice how retro this whole thing looks -- the hefty unit is placed in a housing that wouldn't be out of place with a VHS-C camcorder from the early '90s. There's no mount for additional lenses (the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/11/03/red-makes-the-scarlet-dsmc-official-5k-stills-and-4k-video-for/">$10,000 Red Scarlet</a> uses interchangeable Canon lenses), which means that you won't have any flexibility if you need to set up a complex shot on the fly. The test unit came with a hot-shoe adapter that included dual XLR inputs and a shotgun mic, but we expect this to be an added extra at retail. The zooming is smooth (we couldn't hear any motor noise) and when we screwed with the manual focus, it was able to snap back to clarity within three seconds. We're a little concerned about who the camera is aimed at: it lacks the flexibility that the Red would offer but it seems a little hefty (it's $5,000) for consumers -- so it looks like it's limited toward roaming broadcast professionals who need their recordings in HD. That said, the ability to decode 4K recordings without additional rendering might come in very handy for those who are prepared to pay a premium for that flexibility. Still, if you fancy watching us take a tour of the hardware and seeing it up close, head on past the break for the video.<br /> <div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/4k/">JVC 4K Camcorder hands-on</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/4k/#4751220"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/01/img3000_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/4k/#4751221"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/01/img3002_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/4k/#4751222"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/01/img3004_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/4k/#4751223"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/01/img3005_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/4k/#4751224"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/01/img3006_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /> <em>Edgar Alvarez contributed to this report.</em></div><p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/01/15/jvcs-gy-hmq10-4k-camcorder-hands-on-video/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>JVC's GY-HMQ10 4K Camcorder hands-on (video)</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/01/15/jvcs-gy-hmq10-4k-camcorder-hands-on-video/">JVC's GY-HMQ10 4K Camcorder hands-on (video)</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Sun, 15 Jan 2012 18:23:00 EST. While that's not particularly revolutionary, the transfer of information from one display to the next is. If the passenger looks up a restaurant using their own display, she can swipe it over to the center HUD, providing the driver with navigation instructions. The display tech is still a few years away from production, but don't expect the gesture controls to come along for the ride.<p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/01/15/audi-combines-hud-with-gesture-controls-leaves-us-wanting/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Audi combines HUD with gesture controls, leaves us wanting</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/01/15/audi-combines-hud-with-gesture-controls-leaves-us-wanting/">Audi combines HUD with gesture controls, leaves us wanting</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Sun, 15 Jan 2012 16:09:00 EST. Already festooned with engineering awards, this animated laser display works by beaming a laser generated image onto glass planes containing a film of nanoparticles. Although a blue projector was on show here, it's also being developed in red, white and even dual blue and red. The projector itself requires only a short distance to project across the full width of the screen -- the demo kit you see here was under three feet from the image, which was pin sharp. They're not really about the implementation here, more the hardware, which accepts VGA input through either the USB connection or the built-in XD card reader. Regardless, the current demo reel includes some retail display animations and rotating logos -- including a glimpse of the Zune logo -- but the system can also be turned into an augmented reality driving aid. Marvel at it yourself by checking out our eyes-on right after the break.<br /><BR> <em>Zach Honig contributed to this post.</em><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/projector-glass/">Transplay Animated Laser Display at CES 2012</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/projector-glass/#4747163"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/01/projectionglass01eng-1326405530_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/projector-glass/#4747164"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/01/projectionglass02eng-1326405531_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/projector-glass/#4747165"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/01/projectionglass03eng-1326405533_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/projector-glass/#4747166"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/01/projectionglass04eng-1326405534_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/projector-glass/#4747167"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/01/projectionglass05eng-1326405535_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div></p><p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/01/15/sun-innovations-show-off-transplay-animated-laser-display-proje/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Sun Innovations show off Transplay Animated Laser Display, projects blueish vision of the future (video)</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/01/15/sun-innovations-show-off-transplay-animated-laser-display-proje/">Sun Innovations show off Transplay Animated Laser Display, projects blueish vision of the future (video)</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Sun, 15 Jan 2012 13:05:00 EST. Thankfully, Mercedes has plenty of time to work out the kinks as it won't be coming to production for at least a couple decades.<p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/01/15/mercedes-benz-gesture-control-concept-is-dicey/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Mercedes-Benz gesture control concept is DICEy</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/01/15/mercedes-benz-gesture-control-concept-is-dicey/">Mercedes-Benz gesture control concept is DICEy</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Sun, 15 Jan 2012 11:41:00 EST. Known as <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/09/08/nuforces-icon-ido-amp-improves-ipod-sound-costs-more-than-a-cl/">NuForce</a>, the firm is recognizable amongst audiophiles both for its high-end gear and consumer lineup that often shames overpriced competitors. As it happened, we stumbled upon a mysterious product known as the Air DAC, and happily, NuForce CEO, Jason Lim was on hand to give us a tour. Withholding technical specs (for now), the product is built for high quality wireless audio streaming and will ship as two distinct products -- one that operates over USB and another built for Apple's dock connector. We're also told that each transmitter can be paired with four Air DAC receivers and vice versa. Also, the product can be daisy-chained together to cover larger distances.<br /><br />The DAC unit itself is rather spartan, which features only a power connector and two RCA analog outs. Yeah, digital ports would've been more alluring, but the Air DAC seems to be targeted at the average consumer and we're told it'll have a price to match. The sound quality was absolutely fantastic when played through the Icon system, which includes a separate amplifier and the Icon S-X speakers. Then again, we wouldn't have expected anything less, given the quality of the Icon setup to begin with. For an introductory look at the system in action, be sure to check the video after the break.<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/dnp-embargo-nuforce-airdac-hands-on/">NuForce Air DAC hands-on</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/dnp-embargo-nuforce-airdac-hands-on/#4748454"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/01/gallery-dsc01037_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/dnp-embargo-nuforce-airdac-hands-on/#4748455"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/01/gallery-dsc01039_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/dnp-embargo-nuforce-airdac-hands-on/#4748460"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/01/gallery-dsc01047_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/dnp-embargo-nuforce-airdac-hands-on/#4748458"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/01/gallery-dsc01043_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/dnp-embargo-nuforce-airdac-hands-on/#4748456"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/01/gallery-dsc01041_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/01/15/nuforce-air-dac-wireless-audio-at-ces/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>NuForce CEO teases Air DAC for high quality wireless audio streaming at CES (video)</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/01/15/nuforce-air-dac-wireless-audio-at-ces/">NuForce CEO teases Air DAC for high quality wireless audio streaming at CES (video)</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Sun, 15 Jan 2012 10:59:00 EST. We <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/03/07/samsung-demos-ambient-light-powered-transparent-lcd/">first saw</a> Samsung's 46-inch 1920 x 1080 digitally augmented window back in March, but dropped by its CES booth for a second look. Although the touchscreen window still teases to fulfill our fevered sci-fi dreams, not much has changed -- it's still clear, it's still loaded with widgets, and it's still not anywhere near being installed in your home. Samsung told us this was still a concept device, although they did mention that the technology could be scaled down for use in military visors and heads up displays. Hit the break to see a video demo of a few new apps, including a rather slick set of digital blinds.<br /><br /><em>Joe Pollicino contributed to this report</em>.<p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/01/15/Samsung-OLED-Transparent-Smart-window-CES-update/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Samsung gets tired of neighbors watching its Transparent Smart Window, installs blinds</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/01/15/Samsung-OLED-Transparent-Smart-window-CES-update/">Samsung gets tired of neighbors watching its Transparent Smart Window, installs blinds</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Sun, 15 Jan 2012 09:44:00 EST. Partner all that with an updated iPhone app that keeps track of maintenance and includes a vehicle finder that uses AR to find your ride, and it's a comprehensive update. But for now, Kia isn't saying exactly when UVO2 is hitting the market and how much the system will cost when it arrives. As the name suggests, these wearables can link up to your Android phone (via ANT+ wireless connection) to grab up to three app profiles, and the range of profiles available depend on the model of the watches due to their different sensors: for the RA900 (Expedition) you get cardio, weather, hiking and sleep; whereas the SE900 offers coach, running, workout and sleep. More profiles will be made available, though it's not clear whether they'll make it before or after the watches launch in a few months time. Either way, users will need to install the matching Android apps according to their watch models, but both apps can sync with the watches for exercise summary data (including heart rate, exercise time, distance and speed). Demo video after the break.<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/oregon-scientifics-app-in-sports-watches/">Oregon Scientific's App in Sports watches</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/oregon-scientifics-app-in-sports-watches/#4752312"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/01/app-in-sports-2012-01-11_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/oregon-scientifics-app-in-sports-watches/#4752313"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/01/dsc0845_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/oregon-scientifics-app-in-sports-watches/#4752311"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/01/app-in-sports-2012-01-116_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/oregon-scientifics-app-in-sports-watches/#4752310"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/01/app-in-sports-2012-01-115_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/oregon-scientifics-app-in-sports-watches/#4752309"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/01/app-in-sports-2012-01-114_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/01/14/oregon-scientifics-app-in-sports-watches-sync-with-your-phone/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Oregon Scientific's App In Sports watches sync with your phone, grab apps from it</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/01/14/oregon-scientifics-app-in-sports-watches-sync-with-your-phone/">Oregon Scientific's App In Sports watches sync with your phone, grab apps from it</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Sat, 14 Jan 2012 20:43:00 EST. Founder Bre Pettis <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/01/13/live-from-the-engadget-ces-stage-an-interview-with-makerbot/">stopped by our stage</a> at the convention center's Grand Lobby, becoming our final interview of the show. We managed to get him to print something out during our conversation, but the real draw was, no doubt, the large plastic rocket ship lamp sitting at the end of the stage, a pretty solid visual reminder of the concept of being able to print out just about anything you can imagine with one of these devices.<br /><br />MakerBot is one of the driving forces in bringing 3D printing to a mainstream audience, and the Replicator takes yet another big step in that direction. For starters, there's the fact that, unlike past products from the company, the units ship assembled, taking the difficult and time consuming construction process out of the equation -- at less than $2,000, it's also a good deal cheaper than a fair amount of the competition. Pettis also insists that the printing process itself is rather simple. There's an SD slot on the front -- pop in a card and choose a project from the simple LCD.<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/makerbot-replicator-hands-on/">MakerBot Replicator hands-on</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/makerbot-replicator-hands-on/#4752508"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/01/dsc00513_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/makerbot-replicator-hands-on/#4752509"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/01/tmo2012-01-1316-05-19gal_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/makerbot-replicator-hands-on/#4752510"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/01/tmo2012-01-1316-05-28gal_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/makerbot-replicator-hands-on/#4752511"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/01/tmo2012-01-1316-05-48gal_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/makerbot-replicator-hands-on/#4752512"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/01/tmo2012-01-1316-06-20gal_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />There are pegs for the spools of plastic on the rear of the device. Opting for the $1,999 version lets you do dual extrusion -- using two different spools for two-color objects. When the printing starts, the plastic spools (made of ABS, the same stuff that Lego is made from) feed through tubes, getting melted down, hot glue gun-style. The layering of the plastic creates a ribbed effect on the objects, though Pettis points out that some people sand down their projects after they're finished.<br /><br />The process is a bit time consuming -- Pettis was printing out a small plastic cupcake that didn't finish during our 20-minute-long interview. Apparently it takes closer to 45 minutes to finish something like that. But this model has a key competent its predecessors lacked: the ability to print large objects. You can print things up to the size of a loaf of bread using the Replicator.<br /><br />We're working with MakerBot to get a unit that we can spend a bit more time with -- and believe us, we can't wait. In the meantime, watch Pettis give a guided tour of the device after the break.<p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/01/14/makerbot-replicator-hands-on-video/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>MakerBot Replicator hands-on (video)</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/01/14/makerbot-replicator-hands-on-video/">MakerBot Replicator hands-on (video)</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Sat, 14 Jan 2012 18:41:00 EST. In each editor's gear bag, you'd likely be able to find a notebook, camera with external microphone, an Android / iOS / Windows Phone device, an AT&amp;T LTE USB modem and enough bottled beverages to make trips to the "posh restroom" as routine as checking email. Pizza, pasta, chips and beef jerky keep us going during 20-hour days in the trailer, where a stable (and pricey) Ethernet connection let us bring you dozens of posts each hour without interruption.
