We're edging into the final embers of the summer and as the weather starts to turn for many of us, we'll perhaps find ourselves curled up on the couch a little more often to stream some movies, shows and whatever else happens to be on offer. To wit, Netflix has revealed much of what's coming to its platform in September.

More than three years after Chelsea Handler and Netflix teamed up to "revolutionize the talk show" their quest is coming to an end. Handler tweeted that she has decided not to return after the second season of Chelsea wraps up (later this year), instead focusing on "becoming a more knowledgeable and engaged citizen" ahead of upcoming elections. That doesn't mean she's through with Netflix however, as she says the two will release a documentary where she engages with "people of different ethnicities, religions and political philosophies."

Showrunner / executive producer leaves Netflix's talk show

Netflix's first talk show is finally here, but less than a month after launching it will be moving forward without showrunner/executive producer Bill Wolff. Deadline reported the TV veteran's departure but didn't give a clue as to why he's leaving after less than a month and just nine episodes. Chelsea Handler will continue to executive produce her show, and the showrunner role will remain vacant, at least for now. The talk show and its near-live format have been a big departure for Netflix, and so far, I haven't watched enough to see if it's working. That's despite a few Netflix innovations to make this a truly worldwide show, enabling distribution in over 200 countries and a number of languages just a few hours after each episode is recorded. With three new episodes every week, it's hard to know if Netflix will be able to wait for audiences to find the show and binge watch later, like they do with a lot of its content, so let us know -- are you tuning in to see if Chelsea can "revolutionize" the talk show?

There's a lot to unpack this week, including the ongoing NHL and NBA playoffs and Drake taking over SNL. Of course, my favorite highlight is the arrival of Deadpool on Blu-ray and Ultra HD Blu-ray, following its record-setting digital download debut two weeks ago. Netflix will take its big leap into almost-live content this week, as it presents the first three episodes of Chelsea Handler's new talk show, starting on Thursday morning. Of course for gamers the big attractions are Uncharted 4: A Thief's End and Doom. Look after the break to check out each day's highlights, including trailers and let us know what you think (or what we missed).

We've been hearing about how Netflix and Chelsea Handler would "revolutionize the talk show" for nearly two years. On May 11th, though, the streaming service's first show to feature that format will make its debut. Each episode will be 30 minutes long and stream three times a week on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. And yes, they'll be commercial-free. We still don't know the title of the show just yet, but that's expected to be announced this week. Handler already debuted the four-episode comedic documentary series Chelsea Does on Netflix in January and will stream a stand-up special as well.

You won't have to wonder about when Netflix will start streaming much of its exclusive and original programming -- the company has provided scheduling for seemingly all of it in one shot. To begin with, it's renewing the weird-yet-familiar cartoon BoJack Horseman for a third, 12-episode season that will arrive in 2016. Can't wait that long? Longmire, the rescued A&E crime series, will make its Netflix debut on September 10th of this year, while a documentary about Keith Richards, Under the Influence, is due on September 18th. There are a slew of comedy specials arriving between August 14th (Demetri Martin) and December 18th (Mike Epps). Aziz Ansari's comedy series Master of None will show up on November 6th, and Chelsea Handler is hosting a four-movie documentary series that's "coming soon."

Netflix is adding a new category to its rapidly expanding stable of original content: the talk show. The subscription video service confirmed long-running rumors today, announcing it's signed a deal with comedian and host Chelsea Handler for a show it will begin distributing in early 2016. The "world'’s leading Internet TV Network" plans to create a show for all of its territories that viewers can enjoy however and whenever they like. Before that happens, Netflix and Handler will team up for a stand-up special Uganda Be Kidding Me that will tape tomorrow in Chicago and come to the service on October 10th. She's also going to wrap up the seventh season of her current show Chelsea Lately (not familiar? A sample from its YouTube channel is included after the break.) for the E! network on August 26th and in 2015, create four "docu-comedy" specials for Netflix. The specials will show Chelsea trying to learn about subjects including NASCAR, politics, Silicon Valley and the NBA Draft and of course, lead in to the "First-Ever Talk Show for the Global On-Demand Generation." • Chelsea Lately drunkenly stumbles into 1080i

Yet again regrettably slipping on our coverage of late night television's procession into high definition broadcasting, last week Chelsea Lately became the most recent to go 1080i. Sneaking past our DVRs amongst the flurry of season finales, Chelsea takes time to clown E!'s likely "cheaper" version of HD, while the voiceover intro wonders if 16x9 HDTV makes her look skinnier. Catch a clip of the debut episode after the break, we suppose this puts Craig Ferguson on deck next.[Thanks, Kevin]
