Is this the fabled HTC Puccini tab we recently saw fly through the FCC's embrace? Only time will tell for sure, but BGR has some leaked shots that show the purported tab cozying up to a Flyer-like stylus, in addition to its AT&T branding. A glimpse of this Honeycomb-based 10-incher's backside also reveals an 8 megapixel rear-mounted camera accompanied by what looks like a dual-LED flash. There's also that dual speaker set-up we peeped in the tablet's prior filing. Of course, what lies beneath this LTE slate is still up for speculation, but a rumored dual-core 1.5GHz processor and 1280 x 800 display aren't beyond the realm of today's future specs. Hit the source for an extra shot.
HTC Puccini tablet shots leak out with AT&T branding, may sport stylus functionality originally appeared on Engadget on Tue, 26 Jul 2011 13:26:00 EST. HTC brought in the 4.3-inch craze, but now that that form factor has gone mainstream, it's looking to even larger dimensions. A 4.5-inch HTC Holiday has been dug up by none other than 911sniper, which is said to pack a qHD resolution (960 x 540), a 1.2GHz dual-core Qualcomm MSM8660, 1GB of RAM, an 8 megapixel camera, and the very latest version of Android Gingerbread (2.3.4). That comes on the heels of Pocketnow unearthing a supposed image of the AT&T-bound smartphone, showing a predictably uncomplicated design framing a vast display. Let's just hope the Holiday codename doesn't mean we'll have to wait till the holidays to see this overpowered new beast in action.
Hey look, the Flyer just got itself a bigger brother. A 10-inch tablet codenamed the HTC Puccini has been revealed by our old buddy 911sniper (who has a habit of finding and leaking HTC ROMs), living up to a longstanding rumor that places two 10-inch Android slates on HTC's roadmap for this summer. It's said to pack LTE for Cingular (AT&T) in the US and to be built atop Android 3.0.1. A dual-core 1.5GHz Qualcomm MSM8660 offers plenty of processing power and screen resolution should match the 10-inch pack with 1280 x 800 pixels. Gazing at the above screenshot reveals a UI very similar to the Flyer's Sense 3.0 look, including the Notes app being in a prime position, which could very well mean Magic Pen compatibility will also be part of the Puccini's arsenal. You'll know more about this as soon as we do.
HTC Puccini touted as a 10-inch LTE tablet with 1.5GHz processor, Honeycomb flavor originally appeared on Engadget on Tue, 17 May 2011 05:18:00 EST. Hey, remember that iPhone class-action lawsuit we poked around in a couple months ago and discovered Apple's lawyers confirming the original five year AT&T exclusivity agreement? Well, get ready to hear about it a lot more in the months to come, as the judge in the case has officially certified the case as a class action, meaning it now officially includes anyone who's ever bought an iPhone on AT&T. If you'll recall, the argument is that iPhone customers signed up for a two-year contract without being told that AT&T had an exclusive for five years -- thus in reality being held to the carrier for an additional three years without recourse. Sure, that sounds a little silly, but if you bought the first-gen iPhone and wanted to stick with the platform it's the truth -- discounting the fact, of course, that no one's required to buy another Phone after two years, and even then you have to sign a new contract. While we're definitely curious to see if the plaintiffs can get past that little logical hurdle and win something more than a token settlement, we're far more interested to see if they can get any more documentation from Apple nailing down its actual agreement with AT&T. Should be juicy -- we'll keep you in the loop.
iPhone AT&T exclusivity lawsuit granted class-action certification, every AT&T iPhone customer included originally appeared on Engadget on Fri, 09 Jul 2010 19:02:00 EST.

Things used to be simple: you either had a CDMA device with no SIM, or a GSM device with a SIM. If your GSM device was unlocked you could swap SIMs between carriers, and if was locked, you could swap SIMs between accounts on the same carrier. Basically, an unlocked phone meant mobile freedom. At first, the only complication was the different frequencies used for GSM in different parts of the world, which was remedied with quadband radios. Then 3G was introduced, with different frequencies used by different carriers in the same geographic area, like North America. Today, this proliferation of bands makes it difficult to build universal radios, and makes it less appealing to switch carriers. In fact, the only phone that currently supports all 3G frequencies used in North America is the upcoming pentaband Nokia N8.

The second obstacle was the introduction of special data plans, either requiring additional service layers (such as BlackBerry or Sidekick plans) or restricting the types of devices permitted as the iPhone and iPad plans do. What used to be as simple as changing APNs is now a Kafkaesque nightmare, complete with nasty "you are using the wrong data plan and we are going to send you a bill" text messages from carriers. Strike three was the micro SIM (also known as the 3FF SIM), popularized by Apple's iPad and the iPhone 4. This smaller form-factor SIM is electrically compatible with the standard SIM we all know and love -- and as such, it's easy to convert a standard SIM into a micro SIM and vice-versa (but still, it's one more hurdle standing in the way of happiness).

Let's dive in and take a look at how it's done.
Continue reading How-to: resize your SIM, change your APN, and drink the sweet nectar of mobile freedom

How-to: resize your SIM, change your APN, and drink the sweet nectar of mobile freedom originally appeared on Engadget on Fri, 09 Jul 2010 12:20:00 EST. Mmm, elastic, is there anything you can't do? First it turned that quitter of a sock into a winner, now it promises to assist in producing "the deepest music" from an open Aigo E086 portable speaker. The 1.7 watt USB speaker features a single 36mm driver, a 3.5-mm headphone jack, and a 3-hour charge for up to 4 hours of usage. And hey, Cingular was done with that logo anyway. HTC's Star Trek can now be safely categorized in the "classic" file, but it'd be a big mistake to put this interesting footnote in HTC's history out to pasture just yet. The handset, after all, ranks among the smallest Windows Mobile phones ever made, among the only clamshells, and arguably, among the most attractive (alright, maybe that's a bit of a stretch). But with that stale Windows Mobile 5 build on there hastening its death, what's an owner to do? Turn to the wizards at xda-developers, of course, who've come out swinging with a number of different Windows Mobile 6-based ROMs for a variety of Star Trek flavors, including the Cingular 3125 likely owned by many American customers, and it's all available for download. Always fun to see new life breathed into perfectly decent hardware, ain't it?

[Via pocketnow.com]
Filed under: Handsets, Software, HTC, Windows Mobile

WinMo 6 ROMs for HTC Star Trek bring it out of the graveyard originally appeared on Engadget on Tue, 04 Mar 2008 21:57:00 EST. You know, sometimes product development can take a long time. A really long time. A really, really long time. Sometimes you slap a Cingular logo on an iPod nano knockoff, expecting to pull in tons of sweet cheddar for your novel idea, and before you know it -- bam! -- Cingular becomes AT&T. Of course, once you've got a warehouse full of these ugly-as-sin players, you might as well try to sell them, which shouldn't be hard considering all of the unique features this little guy has, like a 1.8-inch color LCD, MP3, WMA, AVI, and JPEG playback, plus... um, it fits nicely in a pocket. At the very least, those clinging to happier days when Cingular logos roamed the land can now return to their happy place. No word on price or availability, but we're told the feelings of extreme humiliation when using the player are included free of charge.

[Via SlashGear]
Filed under: Portable Audio, Portable Video

Chinese PMP knocks off Cingular logo for no apparent reason originally appeared on Engadget on Tue, 02 Oct 2007 15:01:00 EST. HSDPA, Windows Mobile, QWERTY, slim design -- what more could a road warrior ask for? The Samsung BlackJack for AT&T packs all of the above and a whole lot more, even offering up a little somethin' for the music lovers in the form of stereo Bluetooth support. The good folks at Samsung have hooked us up with AT&T's little 3G Smartphone wonder, and guess what? We'd like to pass it on to you.

A few rules (yeah, there are always rules):

You may only enter this specific contest once. If you enter this contest more than once you'll be automatically disqualified and barred from all future giveaways. (Yes, we have robots that thoroughly check to ensure fairness.) In other words, be careful when commenting and don't submit more than once, ok?

You may enter our other EngMob relaunch contests, but you can't win more than once; if you happen to win more than once (which is pretty unlikely, but still) we'll ask you to choose just one of your prizes.

The prize is open to US entrants only. Hey, it's a US phone, you couldn't do anything with it anyway.

Contest is open until 11:59pm EDT on Friday, June 8th.

We'll be shipping all the phones to winners once all the relaunch giveaway contests are over. (Yeah, we know it bites to have to wait, but dems the breaks!)

Carry around a little piece of history in your pocket, the recently-launched Nokia N75. And no, we don't mean it's an ancient phone -- far from it, in fact. The N75 makes history as the first S60 handset (and the first Nokia, period) with American 3G to see launch. Features include QVGA internal and huge 160 x 128 external displays, a 2 megapixel camera, dedicated music controls, Bluetooth (with A2DP rumored to be in the pipe), and a pair of some of the loudest speakers we've experienced on a phone in recent memory. Read our quick take, then try your luck at winning your own!

A few rules (yeah, there are always rules):
AT&T has been given the green flag to rebrand Jeff Burton's (very orange) #31 race car after Judge Marvin H. Shoob of the US District Court, Northern District of Georgia, "granted AT&T's motion for preliminary injunction in its suit against NASCAR." It was noted that the decision gives AT&T "the immediate right to put its logos and brand marks" on the vehicle, and while we're not certain if we'll see a slightly new look come May 27th, we're sure it won't be long before the blue sphere makes its official debut.

[Via RCRNews]

AT&T gets green flag to rebrand Burton's NASCAR ride originally appeared on Engadget on Sun, 20 May 2007 02:49:00 EST. It's rather odd that the first iPhone to make it into the hands of a mere mortal didn't cost its new owner a single cent, but in a video taken at the commencement ceremony at West Texas A&M University, the CEO of Cingular Wireless Stan Sigman gave away an iPhone to one Dr. O'Brien. (At least, that's what the very crackly movie of the speech shot on a Treo appears to indicate.) The statement about the 3rd party iPhone software comes from a similarly authoritative voice -- Steve Jobs -- and through a clearer medium -- a phone-in of a recent Apple shareholders meeting. Jobs said that the company "is wrestling with" the decision to allow external developers to create their own software for the iPhone. Our wish is for Apple to open up the iPhone, or at least compromise and allow developers to create their own widgets. In the phone industry, standing still (which is effectively what Apple would be doing with a closed iPhone) is not an option: or, maybe it is. Hmm, we seem to have missed the smackdown.

Read -- AT&T's Stan Sigman gifts iPhone
Read -- 3rd party iPhone apps?

AT&T gifts iPhone, Apple contemplates 3rd party software access originally appeared on Engadget on Sun, 13 May 2007 12:52:00 EST. Sorry for the emotional rollercoaster, AT&T subscribers; we know it's been a rough week. Happily, the LG CU500v (AT&T's first Video Share phone) and Nokia N75, both anticipated devices in their own right, are finally on sale. Hard to believe we had to wait until 2007, but here we are, finally able to say Symbian, 3G, and US all in the same sentence. Even after last week's misfire launch of the N75, Nokia's uber-hot flip phone made its way into our grubby hands under more legitimate circumstances than last time. Knowing how slim HTC made the Star Trek, it's hard to call the N75 anything but a little chunky, but besides having, you know, 3G, it's got a few other things going for it: we really dug the classy black, copper-flecked finish, but crack it open and it's got a very spacious keypad and large bright screen (littered with Cingular app-swag). We took a ton of shots of this thing, including some size comparison's to Nokia's other Cingular handset, the E62, as well as the aforementioned Star Trek. Launch is thankfully still scheduled for sometime in May (i.e. this month) -- we can almost taste it.

Update: We just got an official launch date! The N75 will go on sale tomorrow (Friday, May 4th) for the price of $200 (with two year agreement and with $50 mail in rebate).

Gallery: Nokia N75 hands-on

Nokia N75 hands-on - part 2, launches the 4th originally appeared on Engadget on Thu, 03 May 2007 13:26:00 EST. Field tidbits from Engadget's mobile insider, the Boy Genius.

Did you know that AT&T plans on marketing the N75 to males and females ages 25 to 45? Or that said individuals should be "spontaneous and fun"? Personally, we think that North America's first 3G-compatible S60 device suits 18 year old curmudgeons and 80 year old hermits just as well as it does anyone else -- just don't expect your friendly local AT&T sales associate to agree after he or she takes a gander at AT&T's training guide for the device. Nothing too surprising in here from a device features perspective, though we're glad to see that AT&T lists "hundreds of compatible applications" as one of Symbian's selling points, suggesting that the carrier is going to be making at least a half-hearted attempt to keep the phone open. Hit the gallery for the full doc!

Don't get your hopes up, it's not Windows Mobile 6 or anything cool like that, but HTC and AT&T have thrown 8525 owners a bone today with the official release of an expected (albeit a tad late) firmware upgrade. HTC's page for the update is about as vague as it could possibly be without totally concealing the fact that it is, in fact, an update -- but we've heard through other sources that it should offer up a functional push-to-talk button, miscellaneous bug fixes from the 8525's original firmware, and that love-it-or-hate-it AT&T branding. Can't have your flagship smart device dressed up in outdated branding, now can you?
Filed under: Software, HTC, ATT, Windows Mobile

HTC releases official update for AT&T 8525 originally appeared on Engadget on Mon, 30 Apr 2007 13:01:00 EST. Nope, we didn't screw up the image here -- the LG CU500v is, for all practical purposes, identical to the older CU500, save for the critical detail that the CU500v's firmware supports Video Share. We can basically think of the new feature as a poor man's video calling; video is transmitted only one way during calls, though callers with compatible handsets can switch direction mid-call. Rumor has it AT&T intends to launch true video calling along with its HSUPA network, but for the time being, this is as good as it gets. The good news? With a swiveling 1.3 megapixel cam, microSD expansion, stereo speakers, external music controls, stereo Bluetooth, and a slim, metallic body, the phone is no slouch -- and being the first kid on the block with Video Share is only going to run you $29.99 after the typical contract and rebate discounts.

[Thanks, Kyle A.]

Update: Um, April fools, or something! The CU500v has been taken down from AT&T's site after apparently being put up prematurely. Oh well, we didn't want crippled video calling anyway! As expected, AT&T has launched the GT Max 3.6 Express from Option to satisfy the needs of the many, many road warriors toting nothing more than an ExpressCard slot to satisfy their 3G data needs. Tragically, the ExpressCard/34 device isn't being shipped with Mac OS support out of the box, though Option touts Apple compatibility and we're pretty confident that determined MacBook Pro owners will have little or no issue getting it up and running. Another intriguing option for laptop data, the Sierra Wireless 875U, hooks up to the USB port of your choice; like the Option, AT&T's only supporting Windows at the moment even though Mac OS drivers exist for the device. Get the GT Max 3.6 Express now for a penny shy of $50 on contract after rebates -- pricing hasn't been announced for the 875U just yet, but it'll be available in "early May," so we don't have terribly long to wait.

[Thanks to everyone who sent this in]

Read - Press release
Read - Option GT Max 3.6 Express
Filed under: Peripherals, Others, ATT, GSM, GPRS, EDGE, HSDPA, UMTS

AT&T gets ExpressCard, USB modems originally appeared on Engadget on Wed, 25 Apr 2007 11:26:00 EST. Field report tidbits from Engadget's mobile insider, the Boy Genius.

Always wondered just how AT&T's one-way Video Share system was going to work? Us too, so we were more than happy to get a gander at the quick start user guide for the upcoming LG CU500v, a phone that's destined to be among the very first to support the feature. It sounds like setting it up will be a breeze (as long as both caller and callee have Video Share handsets and are in a 3G coverage area): just wait for "Video Share Ready" to appear on the display and press the camera button. Strangely, disconnecting the video feed is a more complicated operation, requiring no fewer than three button presses to accomplish. After the share is finished, the sender can save the feed to memory -- sorry receivers, you're left out of the fun here. Click on for a closeup of the instructions!
Continue reading The Boy Genius Report: The LG CU500v's guide to Video Sharing

Filed under: Handsets, Multimedia, LG, ATT, GSM, GPRS, EDGE, HSDPA, UMTS

The Boy Genius Report: The LG CU500v's guide to Video Sharing originally appeared on Engadget on Mon, 23 Apr 2007 17:45:00 EST. Samsung has triumphantly reported that the SGH-A707 -- better known as the "SYNC" to AT&T customers -- has been sold over a million times since its introduction five months ago, a figure that was apparently boosted significantly by the introduction of red and blue variants on store shelves. Coming in at half a million units shipped is the BlackJack; an impressive figure, considering its higher price point and classification as a smartphone. Here's to another million, folks -- keep the 3G love coming.

[Via I4U News]

AT&T sells 1M Samsung SYNCs, 0.5M BlackJacks originally appeared on Engadget on Fri, 13 Apr 2007 09:59:00 EST. Well, we're half joking, but it certainly seems that way sometimes. When Cingular combined with the old AT&T Wireless years back to leap ahead of Verizon Wireless as the largest U.S. mobile carrier, we're sure Verizon was a little steamed. It took some time, but Verizon Wireless has clawed its way back to the top of the pile, as IDC now says that Verizon's 56.8 million U.S. subscribers has caused AT&T to fall into second place in the country with 56.3 million subs insofar as direct retail customers. Add the fact that Verizon Wireless also has the top spot for wireless data usage and percent of subscriber revenue used on data, and pow -- AT&T just got dealt a blow. AT&T won't be down for the count though with its retail customers, we think. It just might buy T-Mobile USA if Deutsche Telekom wants to sell it -- or not. Perhaps Alltel? Why, we love GSM and CDMA carrier combinations! In the meantime, we suppose they can still tout their status as the nation's largest GSM carrier, but it just doesn't have the same ring to it, now does it?

[update: added additional description]

Verizon retakes US wireless subscriber lead from AT&T originally appeared on Engadget on Wed, 11 Apr 2007 15:05:00 EST. A from both Sprint and Verizon, AT&T's apparently felt enough heat to come clean with its intentions for an HSUPA launch. The technology -- the second half of the equation in GSM's HSPA 3.5G strategy, the first being HSDPA -- works the same magic for uplink speeds that HSDPA did for downlink, giving users uploads in the 1.5Mbps range. For the record, users of AT&T's present HSDPA network get hooked up with plain ol' UMTS uplink speeds in the high 300kbps range, so needless to say, this is an upgrade we can throw our support behind. Look for AT&T to roll out the requisite software upgrades to its equipment over the course of 2007, with the first compatible modems hitting midyear. Hint, hint: ExpressCards, AT&T. Please.

AT&T to add HSUPA this year originally appeared on Engadget on Thu, 29 Mar 2007 16:09:00 EST. We were just casually wandering the expanses of LG's slick booth here at CTIA (stay tuned for more goodies from it) when we happened across this gem: a glass-encased flip simply known as "LG575." What caught our eye, though, was the telltale stylized AT&T globe on the OK button, so yeah, we pretty much know where it's headed. Judging from its appearance, we'd say its a midrange 3G piece in the same vein as the Samsung SYNC, but with an exterior that might be real metal (we couldn't be sure) and a clever-looking touch strip below the external display, presumably for music control. Judging from LG's recent naming convention for Cingular handsets, we wouldn't be terribly surprised to see this one turn into the "CU575," but who knows?

We had a chance to peep an "eyes-only" presentation from AT&T with the dirty details on WM6 for current and future devices, with the newly-branded Cingular apparently poised to introduce patches for three of its hottest handsets. The word is that the Treo 750, 8525, and the Blackjack will see downloadable updates released for current owners, and that WM6 will be pre-installed on all devices launched in 2007. In a separate tip, our peeps tell us that the Blackjack update should be in Cingular's hot hands by May 26; with an expected eight week soak period for testing, this could hit by late July this year. We suppose that if the ROMs prove bulletproof, the cheering masses could theoretically get this update sooner, but until then we can only sit and wait. No word on timing for the other two devices, but we are seriously hoping that Blue has its ducks in a row and that they are on an similar schedule.

Five new models are on the show floor to be exact, every last one of which seems destined for AT&T on account of the "C" prefixes in their model names. FIrst up, the C3b takes the ridiculously-small-flip concept of the C3 and adds Bluetooth, MMS, and some new software miscellany into the mix. Next, the C150 (pictured) does A2DP, over-the-air music downloads and a VGA cam in a thin candybar shell (in white or black... decisions, decisions!). The C510 -- not to be confused with the C150 -- also lies in the 2.5G realm but makes do with a "front scrolling digital display" and music controls, A2DP, and a 1.3 megapixel cam in a green shell (unlike the silver version the FCC saw, we suppose). Turning our attention to the 3G stuff, the C600 gets a Flash-based UI and stereo Bluetooth, presumably at a fairly reasonable price point. Finally, the C710 could end up being the most interesting of the bunch with the promise of Video Share support (geez, finally), stereo speakers, push to talk, stereo Bluetooth (notice a trend here?) and a 1.3 megapixel cam. No word yet on when we'll see any of these, but rest assured we'll be working hard to get these snapped in the flesh at the show!
Filed under: Handsets, Pantech, ATT, GSM, GPRS, EDGE, HSDPA, UMTS

Pantech shows five-pack for AT&T at CTIA originally appeared on Engadget on Mon, 26 Mar 2007 12:50:00 EST. After it had been rumored in the pipe many, many moons ago without ever materializing, we'd assumed AT&T had given up on making the Nokia 6126 a reality. Silly us -- we forgot that American carriers have no qualms with releasing phones 11 agonizing months after they've been announced by the manufacturer! We digress, though; the Finnish clamshell is still a totally decent low-end piece with microSD expansion, a 1.3 megapixel cam, EDGE data, and dual color displays. Look for it now in stores and online -- price will likely vary from market to market, but we're showing $80 after rebates on a two-year contract.

[Thanks to everyone who sent this in]
Filed under: Handsets, Nokia, ATT, GSM, GPRS, EDGE

AT&T finally gets Nokia 6126 originally appeared on Engadget on Thu, 22 Mar 2007 16:02:00 EST. When you're a big telecom outfit and you don't get your way with sponsoring certain events, better bring out the hankies when you start whining. That's just what AT&T did in a recent tiff with NASCAR, after racing officials refused to slap the AT&T logo on Jeff Burton's car. The Number 31 car already had the Cingular logo on it, but as AT&T eradicates all traces of that brand, it apparently wanted the AT&T logo instead (understandable, we suppose). The beef, though, comes from NASCAR's current sponsorship deal with Nextel for the Nextel Cup; with AT&T calling the logo placement an "integral part'' of the its brand name change, NASCAR is prohibiting the company's ability to "attract new customers and retain existing ones.'' Let us see here: logo change equals automatic new customers... sounds pretty logical to us.

AT&T sues NASCAR for sponsorship rights originally appeared on Engadget on Tue, 20 Mar 2007 20:28:00 EST. That is, if you're an AT&T wireless customer. In a paradoxically odd way, the larger-than-life pro wresting stars of WrestleMania and other pro wrestling shows are about to land hard on that 2 inch cellphone screen. What will the content be? For starters, graphics ($1.99 each) and videos featuring wrestling stars, ringtones with wrestler's voices ($2.49 each) and updates from weekly matches and the like -- just don't let that wrestling scream ringtone out on a Honolulu bus. Even select World Wrestling videos will be on tap as part of AT&T's media service offering at $20/month. And, of course, the cherry on the parfait will be a premium WrestleMania video package for $4.99 a month extra. Let's get ready to rumble.
Filed under: Ringtones, Software, ATT, Misc

AT&T bringing wrestling to mobile phones originally appeared on Engadget on Fri, 09 Mar 2007 16:37:00 EST. So, first the good news: a recent market pricing document from AT&T shows that the N75 is still in the cards. Now, the bad: it's anybody's guess when it might finally get around to launching. Said document simply (and ominously) shows "Launch Delay" in the N75's row, indicating that S60 fans could be in for more of a wait to get their US 3G on -- as if they haven't waited long enough already. Let's end this little tid bit on a bright note, though, shall we? There's a red variant of the Pearl in the pipe, which may very well make for RIM's least business-oriented product yet (our apologies if your original black and gray piece is starting to look a little drab now). No word on a launch date there either, but we're guessing -- nay, hoping -- that there are fewer technical hurdles involved with the color changed than with the N75.
Filed under: Handsets, Nokia, RIM, ATT, Symbian, GSM, GPRS, EDGE, UMTS

The Boy Genius Report: N75 delay, red Pearl confirmed! originally appeared on Engadget on Wed, 07 Mar 2007 17:39:00 EST. Not to be outdone by fellow megacarrier Verizon, AT&T's pulling out all the SMS stops this week, too. A new option available on all messaging plans adds unlimited mobile-to-mobile texting for an extra five bones, bring the total cost of the 200, 400, 1000, and 3000 message plans to $10, $15, $20, and $25, respectively. As with Verizon's $20 deal, we'd be a little concerned about the long-term health of our thumbs, but if they're gonna stop functioning, they may as well go out in a blaze of picture message glory.

[Thanks, Will]

AT&T rolls out unlimited M2M texting for $5 originally appeared on Engadget on Sun, 04 Mar 2007 19:43:00 EST. If there's one thing AT&T's 3G offerings have lacked thus far, it's been a gaudy overabundance of yellow metal. Well, problem solved. The midrange V3xx has been re-rendered in a lovely gold shade, decidedly more flashy than the original gunmetal gray variant. Features carry over, meaning we get the same 1.3 megapixel shooter, microSD expansion, fabulous HSDPA radio, and just-can't-get-enough RAZR styling for the price of $99.99 after contract and rebates have been applied. Look for it in stores now -- or, if you're like us, you'll keep those wallets firmly shut for the maxx.

[Thanks, Rich]
Filed under: Handsets, Motorola, ATT, GSM, GPRS, EDGE, HSDPA, UMTS

AT&T unleashes Motorola V3xx Gold originally appeared on Engadget on Sun, 25 Feb 2007 22:08:00 EST. Pantech seems to be getting awfully buddy-buddy with the US' largest GSM carrier as of late -- or at least that's what the FCC would have us believe, spilling the proverbial beans recently on the 3G C600 and the C510 with that new-skool AT&T branding atop its shell. Believe it or not, it seems the partnership is going to run a little deeper still; this here "C150" just showed up on our FCC radar, and thanks to the FCC's interest and the letter "C" in the name, we suspect this one will also be heading over to Cingular / AT&T. The low model number suggests that this will be a cheap or free entry in AT&T's lineup, which is corrobrated by the fact that the handset rocks just three bands of GSM coverage (850 and 1900 both included) and precisely zero bands of WCDMA. Is Pantech sneaking up on LG's market share here or what?
Filed under: Handsets, ATT, GSM, GPRS, EDGE

FCC sees Pantech C150 for AT&T (we think) originally appeared on Engadget on Fri, 23 Feb 2007 11:22:00 EST.
