Some ambitious students from Emerson College (not pictured) have created the Emerson College Game Developers Association, a group attempting to finish a game within a semester. The brainchild of Jeff Edwards and John Richardson, the group of 25 students, including animators, digital artists, programmers, Web designers and more monkeys at typewriters (writers) than the pair know what to do with, are energized to get the project started. Richardson says, "We had more writers show up than we anticipated. We're going to make more avenues for those people to independently learn about the craft as we move along." Richardson's got the slick industry lingo down already, that is one smooth way to say "downsize."The group has no budget and is not yet recognized by the overseers at the Student Government Association. The Visual and Media Arts Department did like the idea of the organization and gave them an Xbox 360. No word if they received a developer kit to go with the department's generous gift. The project plans to be incredibly small, but Edwards puts it best, "College is a great time to do that kind of [project], as many film students and writing students have learned, because you don't have to worry about the paychecks so much." For real though, 'cause, like, you know? The real world is, like, totally hard. [Thanks William]

  • Nintendo offers prizes, likes Japan more than us

Nintendo of Japan has long supported a "Club Nintendo" program by which ridiculous fanboys (like us) get to register their purchased consoles and software for various rewards. Of course, we have a similar "registering" procedure at MyNintendo.com, but we rarely have anything to show for it ... we got a Metroid Prime 2 demo disc, once. Woo-hoo.It turns out that platinum members (a status obtained by magically accruing four hundred points in a year) of Club Nintendo get to choose between two wonderful prizes: Tingle's Balloon Fight, for the DS, or a custom battery pack cover with your very own Mii imprinted on the back. Such a difficult decision! Whilst they ponder, perhaps we may spirit away these prizes in the night. Who's in?

Do you remember that Club Nintendo reward we posted about awhile ago? Well, IGN got their hands on a copy and have decided to put it through its paces. The compilation could easily be considered something else considering it only contains 3 classic Game & Watch titles: Donkey Kong, Oil Panic and Green House. The gameplay itself, including the graphical presentation, is unchanged in making its way onto the DS, so nostalgic gamers should get exactly what they're looking for if they can collect the points required to obtain the game and, well...live in Japan. IGN even posted a video of the game in action.

Nintendo of Japan recently announced that through its Club Nintendo program, gamers over in Japan would be able to acquire Game & Watch Compilation, which features three classics in Donkey Kong, Oil Panic, and Greenhouse. In purchasing Japanese Nintendo games, there are included inserts that equal a certain amount of points, 500 to be exact, will score the gamer a copy of this compilation. As of now, there is no word on a release for the US, but here's to hoping it's successful over there as I know I'm not the only US gamer who would love to get their mitts on a copy.[Via Game Brink]

  • iPods spotted at Sam's Club

I don't know how long this has been going on, but Sam's Club apparently carries the iPod. I spotted it at my neighborhood Club this weekend at the lowest price I've seen so far: $289.98 for a 5G 30 GB black model. Maybe they didn't want to let Cosco have all the fun in selling iMacs? No word on whether Apple Stores will match this price, nor when the 24 iPod bulk pack will be available.
