With all the recent talk of having Call of Duty 6 ready for a 2009 release, it should come as no surprise that COD6 (or Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, if you're a purist) is knee-deep in development. So says famed voice actor Ken Lally (RE5 star and Heroes veteran), who revealed to Coin-Op TV (see 45:30 mark of video) that he has done voice work for "Call of Duty 6," in addition to Dragon Age: Origins. How's that for confirmation? Sort of makes Activision's "speculative" comment seem .... well, speculative. Update: We have removed this post from our front page at the request of Ken Lally, who is in some "hot water." C'mon Activision, what'd Ken really do wrong? Confirm his voice is in a game you already announced? He promoted your game -- for free! Let's cut the guy a break. Sheesh.[Via Gamezine]

Still holding out for new Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare maps and playlists? We're sorry to be the ones to tell you this, but there aren't anymore maps or playlists. None. Go home, kid. Over at the official Xbox forums, Infinity Ward community manager Robert "fourzerotwo" Bowling rather strongly suggested that the development team has moved on from COD4 and is gearing up for its next project, whatever that may be.Bowling also discussed the issue of balance, perception and DLC. In his words, "If you include [the maps] out of box (shipped with game for no extra cost) then it's just ignored and people demand more. If you instead, decide to get the game out and then worry about beefing up the map selection via DLC, people say ... 'this should have been included in the shipped game.'" We hear ya buddy, now how about six more COD4 map packs?[Via Gamer Limit]

  • Infinity Ward pegged to develop Call of Duty 6

These game announcements come earlier and earlier, don't they? No sooner had Call of Duty 4 come out than we started hearing rumblings of Call of Duty 5. Now, that game isn't even out and we're hearing word that Call of Duty 6 is already being planned. But Treyarch won't be at the helm, it'll be Infinity Ward working their magic. That's literally all we know about the game. We're not sure whether Infinity Ward and Treyarch will keep alternating year-on-year, or whether Activision has so little faith in Treyarch that they're hedging their bets for 2009. The least we're hoping is that COD6 won't be set during World War II. Though it still boggles our mind that we're already talking about the game, when its predecessor hasn't even been released.

Despite the franchise's previous installment barely managing to shift a meager 10 million copies, Activision Publishing CEO Mike Griffith has made the surprising prediction that developer Infinity Ward would give it one more go with a sixth Call of Duty game, due in 2009. "In 2009, we expect Infinity Ward to deliver another [entry of] ground-breaking quality, Call of Duty 6," said Griffith, speaking at Activision Blizzard's Analyst Day (via Shacknews).Call of Duty 6, which may end up dropping the "6" in favor of a militaristic subtitle (eg. Moderner Warfare), will follow Treyarch's Call of Duty: World at War, due to be released this November. Shacknews does note an element of confusion in Griffith's statement, however, with the CEO stating, "For calendar year 2010, Infinity Ward is already at work on the next installment in the [Call of Duty] franchise." Is that like ... Call of Duty: Space Warfare?

  • Report: Infinity Ward 'definitely' working on sci-fi shooter

When Infinity Ward recently re-negotiated its contract with Activision, hints of a new IP were floated about. Now comes word from Xbox World 360 magazine (via CVG) that the Call of Duty 1, 2 and 4 developer is "definitely" working on a new sci-fi shooter.Although it's hard to imagine the COD series going into space or through multi-dimensional rifts, there is precedence for a sci-fi COD6 rumor. Call Of Duty sequel or original IP, either way, is this the new project they're "excited to be working on?" Until official confirmation (next week, perhaps?), we're definitely filing this under rumor.

  • Rumor: COD6 goes sci-fi?

To be honest, we almost feel a bit dirty posting this rumor. The game that for all intents and purposes, is COD5, is currently still being teased, and there's already rumors about the next game? Indeed there is, thus the faintly dirty feeling. Apparently an Infinity Ward team member spoke to someone from TalkPlaystation.com and told them that the company is at work on a new sci-fi title that may or may not see reveal at E3.With Call of Duty: World at War returning to the familiar territory of WWII, and the series' current hit staking the claim of Modern Warfare it would seem to make sense that Infinity Ward would want to jump things into the future. If this ends up being accurate (heck, they could be working on a non-COD sci-fi game too) let's hope Infinity Ward can do better than some other popular franchises that have used a futuristic setting. We can't help but get flashbacks of the ill-fated Battlefield: 2142 ...[Via Joystiq]
