  • The Guild comic book, and other news from the SDCC panel

    The Guild's Twitter account is tweeting up a storm from the panel about our favorite Internet series at Comic-Con, and there's a whole downpour of news already. Probably biggest is the news that Dark Horse Comics will be publishing a comic book featuring characters from Felicia Day's show, penned by none other than Ms. Day herself. Details are still hard to find (there's no mention of the book yet on DHC's site), but we presume it'll be about the real-life personas of The Guild folks, rather than a story about their characters. That'll be interesting to see.Other news from the panel is that Season 3 is coming soon, and it'll feature a special guest: Mr. Wil Wheaton, former Star Trek annoyance (sorry, I didn't like him at all), and current geek icon. Apparently they showed a sneak peek at the panel and a Jed Whedon-directed music video (featuring Vork spanking Codex and Tink dancing?), so as soon as we see either of those, we'll be posting them here.And finally, apparently Jeff Lewis (a.k.a. Vork) has announced that he'll be marrying his wife in the game, though we have no idea if that's a joke or not. With these Guild guys, you can never tell. Lots more news about season 3 to come, we're sure, and of course we'll see all of these folks at BlizzCon -- here's the interview we did with them last year. We've got at least one contact on the ground at Comic-Con this week, so stay tuned for more news from San Diego, too. Like The Guild? We do, too! We've got all the episodes of the first season: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9, as well as links to all of the season two shows, We recently talked with Michele Boyd at E3, and we'll definitely be seeing all of the cast and crew at BlizzCon again later this year.

  • Special edition Mad Catz Street Fighter IV controllers set for limited engagement at Comic-Con

    Heading to Comic-Con this year? If not, you'll be missing out on a limited edition Street Fighter IV-branded FightSticks and FightPads from Mad Catz, with button layouts designed to maximize your hadouken-throwing efficiency and with a design the Joystiq crew labels as inspired by Sagat (the character) -- a perfect complement to your Tournament Edition sticks. According to Capcom's official blog, only 500 of each have been made, divided evenly between PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.   • Watchmen BD-Live director's chat set for Comic-Con

    Beyond its Facebook ties, the Watchmen Blu-ray set will include the opportunity to participate in a BD-Live session with the director while he's live at Comic-Con four days after its release on July 25. Hopefully able to do a better job of creating a live experience for home viewers than our experience with Hellboy II: The Golden Army or The Dark Knight, Video Business reports event attendees can watch the movie and observer director Zack Snyder's responses. Other details revealed during a media presentation yesterday included the Blu-ray cut's Maximum Movie Mode, a session that takes the run time up to three hours so Snyder can step in and explain various behind the scenes details of the movie -- only hardcore fans need apply.

  • Futurama's next flick will be the first on Blu-ray

    As if the wait for Futurama's return wasn't bad enough, the wait for its Blu-ray debut has been almost unbearable. The good news out of Comic-Con is that the next movie, Bender's Game is coming day and date on Blu-ray November 4. /Film's early peek at the trailer brings word of jabs at high energy prices and Lord of the Rings parodies, no official release from Fox yet -- or hints about the previously released movies coming to HD -- but in the meantime check out the full ad and mark down 11/4 on your calendar.[Via TheHDRoom]

  • WoW Insider at the Comic-Con WoW panel

    Blizzard, as well as reps from companies that make Blizzard products (TokyoPop, Upper Deck, Wildstorm) were on hand at Comic-Con in San Diego today to talk about their plans for the rest of the year. Comics, books, sculptures, miniatures, and the trading card game were all discussed and WoW Insider was there to bring you back this report.Wildstorm Comics, makers of the WoW comicsWildstorm kicked off the session by polling the audience on who would like to see a comic title that focus solely on Horde, then solely on Alliance and then pitting the two against each other. As you can imagine, the audience was very happy to hear this. No details were given, but clearly something along these lines is already in the works.

  • DC shows off what look like Series 4 Figures at ComicCon

    Empire magazine is already posting pictures from this weekend's ComicCon out in San Diego (WoW Insider also has correspondents there on site), and though they have no idea what they've stumbled across, it sure looks to us like what might be DC Unlimited's Series 4 WoW figurines. And rather than just the standard player characters, Blizzard and DC are going a little NPC for this series -- as you can see above, they've included everyone's favorite elite gnoll, Hogger himself. Also included in the series are a Succubus of some sort (with what looks like a Tauren with a polearm in the back there), and a gun-wielding Tauren Hunter.The figures all have signs that say "Worldwide Debut Friday 4pm" on them, so it looks like we're getting to see them a little early. And Blizzard is excited, too -- Slorkuz has even written a poetic ode to Hogger in honor of his likeness being immortalized.We'll keep an eye out for more info -- looks like DC is expanding their action figure line to include a few more less traditional character types. Who else should they honor with a figure in the future?

  • DCUO ramps up for Comic-Con and additional gameplay details

    If you are a casual or even the most dedicated DC Comics aficionado the news surrounding DC Universe Online, a MMOG that brings the iconic property and thousands of beloved super heroes, villains, and settings to virtual life is spine-tingling. If you can't wait to play, Comic-Con is the place to see DCUO in action. Players will encounter a special scenario with super villain Brainiac which will be playable on both the PS3 and PC platforms. This event held in San Diego, California is where the comic world, games, and 125,000 geeks will collide together for four days running through July 24-27th. Unfortunately, the event is sold out, but there's the SOE block-party you can hit up. If you can't attend either, new details surrounding DCUO already started trickling out at E3-2008.Gaming website, Crispy Gamer was able to expose a few additional DCUO details in there top-five DCUO must know list. We've already covered a few things on their list in our own exclusive DCUO coverage. Heroes and Villains don't get along, so don't expect to be paired together in the same guilds. Speaking of guilds, how about being part of the Justice League of America as a reserve member with the chance to rise in rank? Hell yea, and whatever you pick between crime-fighter or criminal, your actions will matter as special DC characters like Batman and the Green Lantern take notice. As for your own super power abilities, you can either use a power set of an already existing DC character or create your own ability combinations.   • DC Universe Online wants to add you as a friend

    Stop the presses! Those of you just itching for information about DC Universe Online can now check out its profile on MySpace. That's right, well before there's an official webpage, you can get access to screenshots, wallpapers, icons, and concept art. There's also a dev blog, with interviews and video diaries to come.What's even more exciting for fans is the chance to attend the DCUO party at this year's ComicCon by making the profile your top friend, and printing the page out to show DC as proof.   • City of Heroes ramps up the excitement for Comic Con

    The City of Heroes crew have fired up their travel powers to attend Comic Con, which runs from July 23rd to 27th in San Diego. The band of heroes in attendance includes Community Manager Alex 'Lighthouse' Von Minden, Community Co-Ordinator (and PvP enthusiast) Jill 'Ex Libris' Henderson, and developer Ray 'Blue Steel' Snyder, among others.The big event of CoH's Comic Con is the Pocket D Jubilee, which has been scheduled for Saturday July 26th. You needn't be a City of Heroes subscriber to attend; all you need do is visit the booth and ask for a VIP Pass. The event is open to all Comic Con Attendees and City of Heroes subscribers that are 21+, have valid I.D. and have picked up a pass from the NCsoft booth. In the spirit of Pocket D, the interdimensional nightclub where heroes and villains can mingle in peace, the first thousand visitors to the booth also get a free drink ticket, one per person - again, provided they're 21 or older.The VIP Pass will also unlock a special item in-game. NCsoft haven't yet announced what it is, but availability is limited to this one show only.

    We've reached the point where every single Contra 4 news piece that comes in has us gripping the arms of our chairs, afraid that we'll fall from the dizzying heights of ecstasy that we've just been sent to. The experience is both exhilarating and terrifying. Even this image of Contra 4's control setup, taken at one of Comic-Con's demo stations last week, gave us cause to throw our office windows open, yelling out our excitement to the pedestrians below. Press B to jump! Press Y to fire! Press L to switch weapons! How great life is!

  • Seeing the voice behind Jeanne D'Arc

    Sony's upcoming SRPG, Jeanne D'Arc impresses with stellar production values. At Comic Con, GameTrailers was able to talk to Kari Wahlgren, voice of the titular lead character. In the informal chat, you'll see that she doesn't have a French accent -- it's something she just had to pick up for her role. Sony emphasized that the accent needed to be mild. Looking at the footage, we think it works quite well for the role.

  • Comic-Con BiH Wrap: Wait, there's (300) more!

    So ... uhh, yeah. We kind of wrote off Comic Con Bringing it Home yesterday thinking that since it was July 30th that the whole Bringing it Home thing had officially come to an end and without our promised 300 theme. But, we were (thankfully) wrong and last night some more Comic Con goodies hit the XBLM. The final batch up content includes the 300 theme for 150 Microsoft points, another daily wrap-up, Chuck content as well as some Sarah Conner panel content too. Now, for the second time, we officially bid a farewell to you Comic Con 2007, you were great while you lasted, you gave us 300 goodies and that's all we can ask for.

    Comic Con Bringing it Home has officially come to an end and this, our final update, brings a handful of new videos and a few themes. Most of the new video content available is Comic Con panel discussions of 300, Blade Runner, Superman Doomsday, and Supernatural with new themes from Yogi Bear, Wonder Woman and the Justice League. Speaking of themes, what ever happened to our promised 300 theme? Not only was it originally mentioned on the Xbox.com Comic Con page, but now any mention of it has been removed as we never saw it on the Marketplace. Someone from Warner Bros. is going to feel the wrath of X3F soon, be afraid. Anyhoo, Bringing it Home Comic Con edition is over, so take one final gander through all the downloadable goodness in the big handy list after the break. As we always say, long live Bringing it Home.

  • Video: Castle Crashers at Comic Con

    If you've been wondering why there has been a lack of Castle Crashers news, then know that you aren't alone as we share the same curiosity. So, we all should be happy to hear that The Behemoth is at Comic Con this year showing off their latest Castle Crashers build and we can't think of a better way to celebrate the re-emergence of the game than with some gameplay footage from the show floor. Embedded above is the new footage featuring our colorful Castle Crashers knights in a boss battle and kicking bum. Be sure to watch until the end when our heroes are forced to turn on eachother to win a kiss from their princess. We so got five bucks on the red knight.[Via Game Stooge]

  • Konami considering Metal Gear collection for US

    The Metal Gear collection is a hot item for hardcore Metal Gear fans. It includes nearly every game ever created in the Metal Gear franchise: the original Metal Gear, Metal Gear 2 Solid Snake, Metal Gear Solid, Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty, Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, and the PSP Metal Gear Solid Portable Ops. In addition, documentary DVDs will also be included. In Japan, the package ran a very affordable 6250 yen -- about the same cost of one modern retail game. So, will this collection make its way over to the States? At Comic Con, Kotaku's Michael McWhertor spoke to Konami's marketing VP, Anthony Kraus about the issue. He confirmed that Konami was "considering" the package, but they had to talk to retailers about interest in such a collection. If the collection comes to America, it might not be the exact same collection. It will, however, be "very similar." [Thanks, Random!]

    Do you smell that? No, not your dirty laundry wafting from the corner of your bedroom, it's the third day of Comic-Con Bringing it Home content and it's chalk-full of videos. Today we have a few themes (but still no 300 ... waiting) and a bunch of video content from Comic-Con. Actually, there is so much content from Comic-Con that we aren't sure what most of it is. But we do know what Jericho is and today's offerings includes a Jericho HD trailer and we must say, it's very enjoyable. After the break is a list of old and new Comic-Con content available on the Marketplace. Go get 'em tiger, raWr!

  • Lost: The Complete Third Season headed to Blu-ray Dec. 11

    According to Home Media Retailing Magazine, Disney representatives confirmed that one of our favorite HDTV shows, Lost, will make its Blu-ray debut day-and-date with the DVD set of season three December 11th. No word on possible HD special features or price, but we can expect more details soon.[Via MovieWeb]

    The second day of Comic-Con Bringing it Home has arrived delivering new themes, a trailer and a few other videos with a smile. You'll notice there are quite a few new purchasable themes available today including Babylon 5, Scooby-Doo and The Flintstones all for 150 Microsoft points. But if free is your kind of price, then download the free Rush Hour 3 theme and gamer picture pack, you know ... because it's free. Also available is a Superman Doomsday trailer and two other panel videos touching on an "interesting" analysis of the voices of Popeye and something called The Life and Art of Toth. Yeah, we aren't too sure about that one either. As always, make your way to the break and view all the new content available on the XBLM this second day of Comic-Con coverage.

    Today is the day we kick off Comic-Con 2007, the start of another Bringing it Home campaign and celebrate some new Marketplace content. Though, things are starting off a little slower than expected with only a Looney Tunes trailer, Superman theme, and a Comic-Con 2007 gamer picture. But then again, the Comic-Con gamer pic is totally free and totally cool, so we're (oddly enough) somewhat satisfied. Make your way to the break to see a complete list of all the new Bringing it Home content available on the XBLM and enjoy the first days' somewhat lackluster offerings.

  • Xbox HD DVD player now $179, includes 5 free movies

    Microsoft's first announcement to come out of Comic Con is an Xbox 360 HD DVD player price drop. Beginning August 1st (in the US), the Xbox 360 HD DVD player add on will receive a $20 price cut, retail for $179 and include five free HD DVD movies as part of the "Perfect Offer". The five free movie deal runs from August 1st through September 30th, full list of free HD DVDs to choose from posted after the break.Also announced was Microsoft's partnership with Warner Bros. to feature 300 in HD on the XBLM starting August 14th and offer exclusive Heroes Marketplace downloads prior to its season one release to HD DVD. The free Heroes content will include trailers, episode teasers, promotional materials and a free Marketplace download of the pilot episode in HD.With today's HD DVD player price drop it makes it one of the cheapest ways to experience HD content and is quite the tempting offer. We just might end up caving in this August and splurging to experience the look and sound of perfect. HD content FTW!
