We <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/02/16/verizon-to-allow-unlimited-skype-calling-over-3g-starting-next-m/">knew it was coming</a>, and now we have a concrete date. Starting this Thursday, March 25th, Verizon Wireless customers with one of nine select smartphones (Motorola Droid and Devour, HTC Droid Eris, various BlackBerrys) and data plan will be able to use <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/Skype/">Skype</a> over the 3G network. As we heard before, Skype-to-Skype calls will not affect your VZW minutes, and now you've got the option to use the app for cheaper international dialing using the mobile app. Full list of compatible devices after the break, a list we're hoping gets expanded in the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/03/18/verizons-incredible-new-phone-may-be-in-stores-within-two-week/">not-so-distant future</a>.<p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/03/23/skype-mobile-heading-to-verizon-smartphones-on-march-25th/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Skype mobile heading to Verizon smartphones on March 25th</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/03/23/skype-mobile-heading-to-verizon-smartphones-on-march-25th/">Skype mobile heading to Verizon smartphones on March 25th</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Tue, 23 Mar 2010 15:40:00 EST. The handset might've been surpassed in functionality and looks by its <a href="http://www.engadgetmobile.com/tag/Curve8900/">Curve 8900</a> successor, but nothing's got an edge on the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/curve8330">BlackBerry Curve 83XX series</a> in smartphone sales. According to NPD, the handset overtook the <a href="http://www.engadgetmobile.com/2008/12/04/smartphone-numbers-are-in-iphone-sales-exceed-windows-mobile-sa/">erstwhile champ iPhone 3G</a> in the category for the first quarter of 2009, while BlackBerry's own Storm and Pearl handsets took the third and fourth slots, with the T-Mobile G1 rounding out the ranks in fifth place. Overall the smartphone market has grown from 17 percent of handset sales in Q1 2008 to 23 percent in Q1 2009. Compared to the previous quarter, RIM's gained a whopping 15 percent share of the US market -- owning nearly half of the entire scene -- while Apple and Palm both dropped 10 percent as they prep for their heroic mid-year launches.<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/cellphones/" rel="tag">Cellphones</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/handhelds/" rel="tag">Handhelds</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/05/04/blackberry-curve-83xx-overtakes-iphone-3g-in-us-smartphone-ranki/">BlackBerry Curve 83XX overtakes iPhone 3G in US smartphone rankings</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Mon, 04 May 2009 10:34:00 EST. As of now, the tried and true handset is available on the aforesaid carrier, though the price points aren't particularly awesome. Sure, $49.99 on contract sounds fantastic, but that's on a 3-year plan; a more manageable 2-year deal ups the price to $329.99, while it shoots up another $50 on a 1-year agreement. Yikes.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://mobilesyrup.com/2008/11/23/virgin-mobile-canada-launches-the-blackberry-curve-8330/">mobilesyrup</a>]<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/handsets/" rel="tag">Handsets</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/rim/" rel="tag">RIM</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/virgin-mobile/" rel="tag">Virgin Mobile</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/ev-do/" rel="tag">EV-DO</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/cdma/" rel="tag">CDMA</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/11/24/virgin-mobile-canada-lands-blackberry-curve-8330/">Virgin Mobile Canada lands BlackBerry Curve 8330</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Mon, 24 Nov 2008 12:35:00 EST. Well, what do you know? This week's <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/hwyc/">How Would You Change</a> question hits home in the Mobile world, so we figured we'd give you all a fair shot at chiming in. For those who've coughed up the requisite coin to procure a BlackBerry Curve 8330 on one of our nation's CDMA carriers, how on Earth is it treating you? Found any annoyances you'd like to see changed? Yeah, those GSM carriers have been offering up RIM's BlackBerry Curve for eons (we're measuring in cellular years, kids), but not until recently have the major CDMA operators in the US been able to scoop up their own. Now that <a href="http://www.engadgetmobile.com/2008/04/21/alltel-scores-the-blackberry-curve-8330-too/">Alltel</a>, <a href="http://www.engadgetmobile.com/2008/05/09/blackberry-curve-now-available-through-sprint/">Sprint</a> and <a href="http://www.engadgetmobile.com/2008/05/06/blackberry-curve-now-available-on-verizon/">Verizon</a> all have the <a href="http://www.engadgetmobile.com/tag/8330">Curve 8330</a> available to customers, we're interested in seeing an absolute torrent of responses from folks who just aren't entirely satisfied with their new handset. Was it really worth the wait? Is it missing any features that you're just dying to have (like, say, WiFi)? And, be honest, are you jealous of those <a href="http://www.engadgetmobile.com/2007/10/17/blackberry-curve-8310-finds-its-way-to-atandt/">AT&amp;T</a> / <a href="http://www.engadgetmobile.com/2007/09/24/t-mobile-announces-blackberry-curve-with-wifi-we-check-it-out/">T-Mobile</a> users who've already worn the letters from their keypads? Verizon said we'd be getting the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/03/31/blackberry-curve-8330-launching-on-verizon-in-may-without-gps-w/">BlackBerry Curve 8330 in May</a>, and it looks like the company is right on schedule: RIM's latest is now available with a two-year contract for $219 and a $50 rebate. We had heard <a href="http://www.engadgetmobile.com/2008/03/24/blackberry-curve-8330-inbound-for-sprint-next-month/">whispers</a> about the Blackberry Curve hitting Sprint this month, and it looks like they were dead-on -- say hello to RIM's latest, the Curve 8330, all done up in black. Apart from looking way hotter than the <a href="http://www.engadgetmobile.com/2008/02/11/first-pics-of-cdma-blackberry-curve-8330-surface/">silver version</a> that's made the rounds, you're getting GPS, a 2 megapixel camera with video recording, Bluetooth, "enhanced" web browsing, and the usual suite of Sprint music and TV services. $179 with a two-year contract later this month, says Sprint.
