Panasonic's new 4K TVs will run Firefox OS under the hood
Panasonic's promises of Firefox OS-based TVs in 2014 didn't amount to much, but the company is back with much more concrete plans for Mozilla's web-based platform. The electronics giant has revealed that all of its 2015 Life+Screen 4K TVs (the CX600, CX650, CX800 and CX850) launching this spring will run Firefox OS. You can not only run web apps, but also send content to your TV from any device with a Firefox browser or a compatible app. You'll even get notifications from smart appliances connected to your home network, Panasonic says. It's hard to know if the new software will help Panasonic compete with the likes of LG's webOS sets or Samsung's Tizen models, but it's clear that simply making a smart TV isn't enough in the tech world these days -- you need to have a full-fledged software ecosystem to back it up.
MSI dishes five new C Series laptops, all of which are perfectly average
Okay, so maybe "new" is being a bit generous here, but whatever the case, MSI has a fresh five piece of C Series laptops ready and willing to be purchased, opened and openly abused. The C Series never has been much to look at nor swoon over, with the whole lineup packing only decent specifications and a rather unexciting motif. Not that there's anything wrong with the all-business approach, but nothing here is going to set the world ablaze like, say, Toshiba's inglorious X305. The CX600, CX700, CR600-013, CR600-017 and CR700 are all either being introduced or mildly tweaked, with the 600 models packing a 16-inch display and the 700 flavors getting things done on a 17.3-inch panel. The CR600 and CR700 offer up a discrete GeForce 8200M GPU and optional Blu-ray drive, while the other guys get by with a Mobility Radeon HD 4330 and DVD burner. MSI debuts three new Classic Series laptops
MSI has certainly already made a respectable enough showing for itself at CeBIT this year, but it looks like company isn't done just yet, with it now getting official with three new "Classic Series" laptops. Those include CX700, CX600, and CR400, which each pack 16:9 screens of 17.3, 16, and 14-inches, respectively, along with ATI Mobility Radeon HD4330 graphics on the CX700 and CX600, and an NVIDIA Geforce 8200MG GPU on the more energy-efficient CR400. Specs are otherwise still a bit light, but each will apparently come equipped with a combo optical drive that boasts a "high-speed CD burning" feature, along with a 4-in-1 memory card reader, and a 1.3 megapixel webcam. No word on pricing just yet, but all three will apparently be on the more affordable side of things.
