'Virtual Rick-ality' is a VR treat for 'Rick and Morty' fans

Rick and Morty is one of the funniest shows on television -- and it's also one of the weirdest. Co-created by Justin Roiland and Dan Harmon (Community), the series is like a demented spin on the Doc Brown/Marty McFly relationship from Back to the Future. Rick Sanchez is a dimension-hopping alcoholic genius who's the grandfather to Morty, a nebbish kid who's always in over his head. Comedy! While I was initially worried that the show's first VR experience, Virtual Rick-ality, might not live up to the series' wildly inventive attitude, it didn't waste much time proving me wrong.

YouTube is more determined than ever to line up major original shows for its Red subscription service. The video giant has scored deals for three new exclusives from names you will definitely recognize. The highlight might just be Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson's Lifeline. Apart from its celebrity producer, the sci-fi series revolves around the intriguing (if Minority Report-like) concept of insurers who travel 33 days ahead in time to prevent the deaths of their customers.

Community will get its 13-episode sixth season (and eventually, maybe a movie?) on Yahoo Screen October 19th March 17th, and now we have the first trailer. It looks like the gang are up to their usual Dan Harmon-written schemes, but it's still missing something without Troy, Shirley and Pierce. Fortunately the rest of the cast is in their usual places, and the trailer even makes light of some of the missing members. Overall, Greendale doesn't seem any worse for wear after jumping to the internet, er, Age of Yahoo, so we guess that $2 million per episode budget is holding up. Our only question now: will we see Yahoo Screen apps for a few more connected TV devices by the time the show debuts?

Six seasons and a movie. That's what fans of Community want, and they're very close to getting it. NBC cancelled Dan Harmon's comedy after its fifth season on the network -- one that may have already owed its existence to streaming services -- but now Yahoo has announced it's commissioning a new 13-episode season. There had been rumors/wishes that Community would return on an online network like Hulu, Crackle or Netflix, but The Wrap reports the cast's contracts were due to expire on Monday, so Sony Pictures needed to make a deal and Yahoo is looking for content (Firefly fans, update your mailing lists). With the exception of the previously departed Troy (Donald Glover) and Pierce Hawthorne (Chevy Chase), the main cast is onboard all the way down to Jim Rash as Dean Pelton. The season will be exclusive to Yahoo Screen, but details like how much it will cost to watch (if anything) or how the episodes will be released are still unclear. The one problem we hope Yahoo can solve right away? Where to put October 19th. Update: In a TV Guide article explaining how Community got to Yahoo Screen (tl;dr: cash money -- the $2 million per episode budget will remain the same from its run on NBC, which Hulu couldn't match), exec Kathy Savitt says the plan is for it to be ad supported, and episodes will be released on a weekly basis.
