One-handed riding looks easy in Road Redemption alpha footage
Alpha gameplay footage of Road Redemption shows off the high-speed brutality players can enact on fellow motorcycle-riders on a strip of desert highway. We're not sure if the sound effects are final, but that thump when the player hits an enemy rider is already quite satisfying. Road Redemption is a spiritual successor to the Road Rash series, and was funded on Kickstarter in May with $173,803. It's due out for PC, Mac and Linux from developer DarkSeas Games, and the alpha is available to play now for $40 (or $70 for a special edition) via the game's official site.
Road Redemption hits Kickstarter target with 48 hours to go
Road Redemption, which looks to be the spiritual successor to the Road Rash series, revved past its Kickstarter goal of $160,000 this morning, with 48 hours left in the tank. Just under 3,700 backers helped the fundraiser achieve its target. The mix of bikes and beatdowns is due to wheelie onto PC, Mac, and Linux in August 2014. and Wii U a few months after. With two days still to go, developer DarkSeas Games now turns it eyes further down the road, with stretch goals of an XBLA port and Oculus Rift support on the horizon; $178K kicks XBLA into gear, $198K punches up Oculus.

Road Redemption, a spiritual successor to Road Rash currently seeking funding through Kickstarter, will be ported to Wii U by Dark Seas Games if it successfully secures support.Dark Seas Games lauded the Wii U's tablet controller as a great tool for local multiplayer, bypassing the need to split the primary screen. The developer also considered support of the Unity engine and the Wii U's 2GB of internal memory as deciding factors for porting Road Redemption.Road Redemption hopes to launch on PC, Mac, Linux and Wii U in July should it meet the goal of $160,000 on Kickstarter. It has pulled in close to $60,000 so far.
Road Redemption, a Road Rash spiritual successor on Kickstarter
DarkSeas Games is looking to finance a spiritual successor to Road Rash through Kickstarter. Road Redemption is a Unity-based game for PC, Mac OSX and Linux featuring a single-player story revolving around biker gangs and drug distribution routes and online multiplayer. As you can see in the announcement video above, the Road Rash influence is palpable.Melee weapons, firearms and explosives will all be tools of the trade for bikers, with a counter and parry system at the heart of combat. Bikers can also kick other bikers into oncoming traffic because bikers are violent maniacs.Gameplay is being "geared toward experienced players," the Kickstarter page says. The developers explain the systems will feel more satisfying because of the difficulty. A few months after launch, should the Kickstarter drive yield success, DarkSeas Games will release the source code, art assets and project files to the public for modding.It's important to note that none of the individuals involved with Road Redemption actually worked on the Road Rash series, odd considering co-designer Dan Geisler's statements on Reddit last month. When asked, "Why hasn't this game resurfaced?," Geisler responded that he wasn't ready, but is now and may even seek funding through Kickstarter.
