From the Land of the Rising Sun comes Vita Games of the Falling Prices. Sony's running a two-week PSN sale on Japanese-developed entries for its gaming portable, and, like the toppings on an okonomiyaki, there are a variety of tasty-looking morsels on offer. The highlights of the first week are Keiji Inafune's action-RPG Soul Sacrifice and Team Ninja port-of-a-port Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 Plus, down to $25 and $28, respectively. The discounts are much more appealing with a PS Plus subscription; Soul Sacrifice is just $17.49 and Sigma 2 Plus $19.59. Those prices and the other first week offers are available starting today, through to Monday, August 19. A couple of fighters top the second week's bill, which runs August 20-26. During that time you can pick up Dead or Alive 5 Plus for $20, but here's an even more attractive equation: Dead or Alive 5 Plus plus PlayStation Plus equals just $10. Similarly, Street Fighter X Tekken looks good at the lowered price of $28, but the PS Plus price of $19.59 is even better. There are 18 Japanese games in total in the Vita sale; check out the PlayStation Blog for the full list of whens and how muches.

Parent company Tecmo Koei will restructure its flagship studio Team Ninja into two individual groups, Ichigaya Development Group 1 and Ichigaya Development Group 2. In a statement today, Tecmo Koei confirms Yosuke Hayashi will oversee Group 1, while Fatal Frame series alum Keisuke Kikuchi will get a bump up to head of Group 2. We've followed up with Tecmo Koei to confirm how this reorganization may affect others at the Japanese development house. This news comes at a busy time for Tecmo Koei, who just launched Dead or Alive 5 Plus on the PS Vita and is currently gearing up to port Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor's Edge to the PS3 and Xbox 360 on April 2. A demo for Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor's Edge is currently available on both Xbox Live and PlayStation Network.

This week's PlayStation Store update is notable for its substantial subtractions, particularly to the price of the Persona series. The three PSP games are each discounted by $10 or more, while the massive Persona 4 Golden for PlayStation Vita is marked down from its regular $40 to $30.If you prefer portable pugilism to Persona's one-two punch of high-school time management and dungeon crawling, Tecmo Koei is offering a Plus-sized Vita version of Dead or Alive 5 for $40.Meanwhile, the PlayStation 3 gets a new Atelier Totori game a Darksiders series bundle and The Walking Dead: Survival Instinct – a licensed FPS that has yet to be widely reviewed.Correction: The Atelier Totori game, The Adventurer of Arland, is for PlayStation Vita and available in a bundle with DLC for $40.

The Vita's Plus-enhanced port of Dead or Alive 5 gets hit with a demo "close" to the game's launch in North America on March 19. That may well mean it arrives after launch - Team Ninja was more concrete earlier this week about a Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor's Edge demo hitting before launch. As demos go, however, DOA5 Plus's looks like it'll provide a good sample of the game. It supports Cross-Play with PS3 players of DOA5 as well as the new Touch Fight mode, and includes eight stages and four characters to play as (Eliot, Hayabusa, Kasumi, and Tina) while fighting any of the roster as computer opponents. Also, being able to transfer save data from the demo to the actual game is always something of a Plus.

  • Dead or Alive 5 Plus 'Touch Fight' mode exactly what it sounds like

As we originally learned last December, the "Touch Mode" in Dead or Alive 5 Plus places the player into a first-person environment that can either be oriented in portrait or landscape mode. Attacks are delivered by poking, pinching and/or flicking the opponent, all of which will result in jabs, throws and launchers, respectively.New screenshots also show off Dead or Alive 5 Plus' enhanced Training Mode capabilities, and they even manage to do so with characters that are, for the most part, wearing clothes. There are two inexplicable cheerleader outfits in there, though, so we guess you can't win 'em all.%Gallery-178850%

For those of you who can't imagine a PS3/Vita matchup in Dead or Alive 5, Team Ninja has released additional information about the mechanics of cross-play. You'll be able to see via an icon whether your opponent is playing on Vita or PS3, a distinction that will also be shown in rankings.Team Ninja also promises 60 frames per second in cross-platform matches, on both platforms. And your saves will work across platforms, like other Cross-Save games, so there's really nothing stopping you from maintaining your lifestyle of playing Dead or Alive 5 absolutely all the time. Well, nothing but a depleted Vita battery coinciding with a home power failure. %Gallery-176661%

Dead or Alive 5 Plus for the PlayStation Vita will not only allow players to challenge PlayStation 3 owners during online play, but also save a bundle on their provocative-costume bill. Well, in-game at least.Team Ninja's coming portable adaptation of last September's Dead or Alive 5 will support both Cross Play and Cross Buy functionality, according to Siliconera's translation of Famitsu. Like other Cross Play enabled titles, Vita owners will be able to challenge people playing the PlayStation 3 original when battling online. Likewise, any DLC purchased on either system will automatically be applied to the other, meaning that the PS3's limited edition/pre-order costumes will appear on the Vita, and vice-versa.

Tecmo released more details, and some suspiciously great-looking screenshots, of Dead or Alive 5 Plus today, including information on the two available control schemes in the Vita fighter's weird first-person, vertically oriented fighting mode.In "Mode 1," you simply tap the screen where you want to attack your opponent, sort of like getting into a fight with the Pillsbury Dough Boy. In "Mode 2," you "touch, flick and pinch the screen" to launch moves. According to Tecmo, both modes have the advantage of giving you a full-screen view of your opponent "in the highest graphic detail." %Gallery-173894%

The PS Vita is getting its Plus port of Dead or Alive 5 on March 19, 2013. Team Ninja confirmed earlier this week that the fighter is due in Europe and Australia on March 22, but the developer revealed the US release date via the game's newly launched website. Dead or Alive 5 Plus is bringing few extras to Sony's handheld. With the Vita held vertically, you can use its motion sensor to get a full-screen, first-person view of your opponent, while publisher Tecmo says the port's touch controls will let you trigger moves via "simple taps, swipes, and pinches on your opponent."

Dead or Alive 5 Plus for Vita includes a new first-person mode, in which you hold the Vita vertically and use the motion sensor for a "first-person, full-screen view of your opponent."The port also has new touch controls, which go beyond the expected touchscreen macros – "Simple taps, swipes, and pinches on your opponent trigger a variety of devastating moves," Tecmo says. In addition, DOA5+ offers detailed frame data for serious study. Uh, for tournament play.

Dead or Alive 5 Plus, a PlayStation Vita port of September's Dead or Alive 5, has just been announced by Team Ninja head Yosuke Hayashi. Details are slim at the moment, although we do know that the port is expected to hit Sony's handheld sometime during the early part of 2013. An update to the console version of DOA5 is also expected sometime next year. The reveal, made on the official IGN Pro League YouTube channel, comes shortly after the announcement that Dead or Alive 5 will be added to IPL's official stable of e-sports titles. Starting in 2013, DOA5 tournaments will be held alongside IPL's other events, which currently include Starcraft 2 and League of Legends, among others.
