Merry Christmas Eve, everyone! Wait, it is Christmas Eve, right? These PSN updates always come on Thursdays, and Christmas is on Friday so ... wait, it's Tuesday? Well, it looks like someone at Sony Europe pressed the "Release Stuff onto the PSN" button a bit too early. Either that, or they didn't want to work on the 24th. No, Europeans usually have an unflappable work ethic -- this must be some kind of mistake. Regardless, there's a whole bunch of savory morsels in this week's update, including the LittleBigPlanet Pirates of the Caribbean pack, Vagrant Story and the Adhoc Party application. Check them all out after the jump! Choose your platform to view the corresponding release list: (Note: Continue past the break to view both release lists.)

It's a holiday miracle! Though there are a few intriguing items in this week's PSN update (such as the long overdue release of Braid, a demo for Army of Two: The 40th Day and Beatles: Rock Band's "Rubber Soul" DLC), the highlight of this latest update is the delectable set of discounts. Some games have had their prices temporarily reduced, such as Battlefield 1943 and Burnout Paradise. Others, such as Puzzle Quest and The Cube, have been permanently encheapened. We hope you've been regularly exercising your ocular muscles -- they'll need to be pretty beefy to make it through this weeks European PSN update. There's a smattering of stuff that's been added for the PS3, the most notable of which being Watchmen costumes in LittleBigPlanet, but the star of this week's show is the PSP Go. If the hip-hop gangsta scene is your thing, check out the new screenshots of Def Jam Fight for NY: The Takeover. As a precursor to Def Jam Vendetta, it'll give gamers a taste of the backstory involving D-Mob and his crew. Busta Rhymes, Lil' Kim, Ludacris, Method Man, Redman and Snoop Dogg are no strangers to the series either. Expect a March release date for The Takeover.

IGN carries the news that Def Jam will be making a PSP appearance via Def Jam Fight for New York: The Takeover. Billed as a prequel of sorts to Def Jam Vendetta, the latest game in the franchise boasts new modes, including a create-your-own-fighter mode and a wireless match making mode. Currently in development by the good EA (EA Canada), you can expect Def Jam: Fight for New York: The Takeover to beat your PSP to a bloody pulp sometime this Spring.

You know, this game has been out for a few months now, but I wanted to bring it to folks attention heading into the holidays as I'm hugely addicted to it right now. You don't have to be a hip-hop fan to appreciate this game, though it certainly doesn't hurt. In many ways, this is the game the pitiful "Fight Club" title should have been. It's a brutal, no holds barred fighter. Over the top, magnificently violent, and graphically gorgeous. I've been playing this to deat the last few days, and damn... I can't get enough of it. With a ridiculous number of fighters (once they're all unlocked), the match-up's are varied. The areas and type of fights are varied. Only thing I can find to complain about is the ability, or lack thereof, to pick random fighters. With 70+ fighters that's a bit of an oversight. It's a fantastic fighter though. Stylish, very violent (a rarity for an EA title), and hugely enjoyable. Plus the fact it's not every day you get to see the Henry Rollins throw Carmen Electra in front of a train...

Fight for NY is the sequel to last year's hip-hop wrestling title Def Jam Vendetta. This time around, Aki has added a classic fighting-genre dimension, but the grappling system remains the key to bringing blazin' amounts of pain. The roster is perhaps the most impressive aspect of the package, featuring over 70 fighters (more than 40 of which are real-life celebrities), including Snoop (or 'Crow') your nemesis in story mode. And speaking of the story, "Fight for NY's story is better than Fable's" (IGN). Believe it or not, this game could be a legitimate contender if not for spotty framerate and camera issues, not to mention no online support. Still, it's worth a play, especially if you've got some friends around.
