  • Offshore wind power park to energize Delaware homes

Unlike Rock Port, Missouri, the entire state of Delaware won't be 100-percent wind-powered after Bluewater Wind constructs a $1.6 billion wind park just off its shore, but the state will be able to "light about 50,000 homes a year" for the duration of the 25-year contract. Said agreement was just nailed down between the aforesaid firm and Delmarva Power, and it hopes to start powering homes via wind by 2012. The offshore site will sit around 12 miles off Rehoboth Beach, with a number of turbines to be planted 90-feet into the sea floor and sport three blades apiece measuring 150-feet long. It's noted that vacationers and locals alike won't be able to notice the park from the beach except on a few remarkably clear days, but if their energy bills sink because of it, we don't really think they'll mind, anyway.

Residents of Delaware's capital city can bust out the balloons and party hats, as it looks as if Verizon's FiOS TV is nearly ready to launch in your neck of the woods. Just yesterday, the City Council voted unanimously to authorize Verizon to offer its fiber-based television service in Dover. Thanks to the vote, it now joins Arden, Ardencroft, Ardentown, Bellefonte, Cheswold, Delaware City, Leipsic, Little Creek, Middletown, Newark, Odessa and Townsend as locales in The First State that have approved Verizon's franchise agreement. There's no telling when the next step (you know, actually offering service) will be taken, but rest assured, you're much, much closer today than you were just last week.

  • Nintendo finally hit with Wiimote lawsuit

C'mon, was there really any doubt about this one? We've seen everything from TVs to PDAs to windows to humans (and their scams) get jacked up thanks to Nintendo's Wiimote downright neglect, and without further ado, we present the first associated lawsuit. California-based Interlink, a company that manufacturers remote controls and other devices for business presentations, is hitting Nintendo up with a lawsuit claiming that the Wiimote violates its own "Trigger Operated Electronic Device" patent filed back in 2005. While the patent doesn't appear to focus on any kind of snazzy "full motion sensitivity" features like those enjoyed on the big N's controller, it does point out its uses as a pressure-sensitive mouse replacement, which really only relates to the Wiimote via a sweet hack job (or two). Nevertheless, the zany sounding suit may actually have more ground to stand on than we onlookers give it credit for, as we've already seen Sony's battle with Immersion head south. Sure, these filings are a dime a dozen these days, but if the signature piece of Nintendo's latest console gets tagged for royalties, who knows how much those classic title downloads could end up costing.[Via ArsTechnica, thanks Connor]

Ok, so nobody outside of my oft-ignored home state cares about this, but local Delaware band OmniSoul made the soundtrack for Madden '07 with their stadium-friendly track, "Not Giving Up." Just another notch on the First State's belt next to scrapple, Ryan Phillipe and tax free shopping.
