  • Dell Studio XPS 13 and 16 turn white, we fall in love

Rarely does anyone make a purchasing decision about a big-money piece of electronics like a laptop based on color alone, but it's good to know that if you've made up your mind to get yourself a Dell XPS you can choose a hue that suits your personality -- or at least your shoes. After dropping white from its XPS lineup many moons ago, the company has added it back, with "Arctic White High Gloss" being a $40 option on either the XPS 13 or 16. For that money you could get an extra 1GB of DDR3 RAM, but we must admit to being too smitten by the combination of pearly gloss and brushed metal to care about such menial upgrades. • Dell's Mini 9 vanishes from retail site as red Studio XPS 16 returns (update: Mini 9 is on the outs)

We don't want to point fingers, but at the same time Dell's Studio XPS 16 red option suddenly returns -- now a "Merlot" instead of once-axed "Crimson" -- the Mini 9 conspicuously goes missing from the company's website. Coincidence? We think not. It's a regular murder mystery, and it looks like we have our prime suspect here, caught... erm, red-lidded. Catching the killer, though, won't bring it back, but at least its younger brother, the Vostro A90, still seems to alive and kicking. Update: We just got off the phone with a Dell customer service rep who told us the same thing a handful of our tipsters heard: the Mini 9's being phased out, with its official "End of Life" possibly as soon as Monday. Shed a tear for our 2008 netbook of the year. [Thanks to everyone who sent this in!] Read - Merlot red Studio XPS 16 Read - Dell.com search for "Mini 9" Read - Refurbished Laptop stockroom

  • Crimson Red Dell XPS 16 in the wild?

So about that apparently canned crimson red Dell XPS 16 laptop. We received a handful of pics from a tipster who claims to have gotten one about a month ago when he returned his other, decided un-red model for a screen replacement. We don't want to say this is 100 percent legit without holding it in our hands, but if this is the beauty we once had the option to purchase, Dell, please, bring crimson back. [Thanks, P]

  • Dell seemingly cans sassy Crimson Red XPS 16 option

The dreamy, high gloss Crimson Red option for Dell's XPS 16 -- which appeared just a few short days ago to shock and beguile us -- has seemingly disappeared into thin air already, leaving us to wonder... was it all just a dream? Will it return once again? Please let this be some sort of cruel, unfortunate mistake.

  • Dell XPS 16 gets extra glossy Crimson Red option

Dell took a slightly different tact with its new XPS 13 and XPS 16 laptops by offering them only in basic black (or Obsidian Black, to be exact), but it looks like the company is slowly returning to its more accommodating ways by adding a new "high gloss" Crimson Red option to the XPS 16. As you can see above, however, you'll have to shell out an extra fifty bucks for that added bit of eye candy, and it doesn't look like it's available on the smaller XPS 13 quite just yet, though it seems safe to bet that it will be sooner or later.[Via NotebookReview.com]

  • Dell's XPS 1340 and 1640 get official, latter gets reviewed

The new XPS 1340 and 1640 laptops just appeared yesterday, and now (a mere day late) have been given the blessing of officialdom from Dell. Of course, we already knew all there was to know about them when it comes to specs, so rather more interesting is the first review of the bigger of the two, also called the XPS 16. The 2.4GHz machine scored high marks both when it comes to aesthetics and overall performance, but the thing got a little too hot for comfort, costs a good bit more than the competition, and those glossy screens are always controversial. Overall it sounds like a nice machine if you have the dough -- and don't mind a little glare. Read - New Dell XPS laptops confirmedRead - Dell XPS 1640 reviewed
