Disney announces Bambi Blu-ray/DVD combo for March 1st, debuts new Second Screen PC/iPad app
Disney's officially put a date on the Diamond Edition release of Bambi, which will arrive March 1, 2011 in Blu-ray/DVD combo pack edition HD download, or SD download -- DVD only packages arrive April 19th. There's plenty of exclusive Blu-ray features, including never before seen deleted scenes, 7.1 audio track, a deleted song, a peek inside Walt Disney's meetings where the concept of the film came to be, and an interactive game. The biggest addition is that this disc will debut Disney's new "Second Screen" feature on computer or iPad which promises to sync with the film and pull in even more interactive features. It sounds similar to Universal's BD Touch apps, but we'll have to wait and see exactly what it brings to this classic flick next year.
Disney posts Bambi, The Lion King Blu-ray trailers ahead of next year's Diamond Edition releases
Just in case you didn't get a chance to see the trailer for The Lion King on Blu-ray last time it's now posted on Disney's official YouTube channel, along with another one touting the spring Diamond Edition release of Bambi. As usual, these flicks will only be out of the Disney Vault for a limited time so plan your preorders carefully, the trailers are embedded after the break.
Ulysse Nardin reveals $129K Chairman Diamond Edition
Pretty much anything can be made unfathomably expensive by encrusting it with diamonds -- so when you start with an object that's already rather pricey, you're bound to start brushing up against "only for Russian billionaires" territory. Indeed, we'd argue that Ulysse Nardin's new Chairman Diamond Edition fits that bill nicely, coming in at $129,000 for a combination of 18-carat white gold and over 2,000 diamonds with ceramic trim. You might recall that the plain-vanilla Chairman is already an interesting phone, featuring 32GB of storage, a 3.2-inch touchscreen, Android, biometric scanner, and most notably, a watch-like self-winding mechanism around back that supplements the phone's battery power. Of course, when your phone runs into the six figures, we doubt that paying the electric bill to get this thing charged on a nightly basis will be much of an issue.
Beauty and the Beast coming to Blu-ray October 5
We should all be familiar with Disney's system of scheduling releases from its valuable archive of animated hits by now, and it's staying on path with Beauty and the Beast, arriving on Blu-ray for the first time on October 5, a year after the first Diamond Edition release, Snow White and the Seven Dwarves.All that means is to expect another Blu-ray + DVD combo pack (with standalone DVD to follow later, on November 23) with carefully restored imagery, 7.1 surround audio and plenty of extras. The trailer is embedded after the break, but we suspect the decision to buy this one has already been made.
