As announced in late October, digital pre-loading on Wii U will start with the home console version of Super Smash Bros. Nintendo recently elaborated on how the pre-loading service will work for the upcoming fighting game. Starting on Tuesday, November 18, Nintendo will send a download code to those that pre-ordered the game through its online store. Redeeming the code will allow players to download most of Super Smash Bros. to their Wii U systems right away. Starting at 12:00 a.m. ET on the day of its official launch, Friday, November 21, a small update will be available to download that unlocks the game. Alternatively, players will be able to complete the same process by purchasing Super Smash Bros. for Wii U from the system's eShop directly, or by obtaining a download code from another retailer. Pre-orders for Super Smash Bros. surpassed that of Mario Kart 8 according to Nintendo, which expects "the impact on hardware will be similarly dramatic" to that of Smash. [Image: Nintendo]

Digital pre-orders for Creative Assembly's frightful first-person game Alien: Isolation are now available. Players can put money down in advance of the game's impending launch in one week on Steam, PSN and Xbox Live to pre-download the game and pick up its season pass. Xbox One players can pre-purchase the game's Nostromo Edition on Microsoft's store, which includes the full game as well as the "Crew Expendable" bonus content. PS4 and PS3 players can scoot over to PSN to pre-order either the Nostromo Edition or the Season Pass bundle, with individual passes available on launch day, October 7. Likewise, the Nostromo Edition as well as the Digital Deluxe Edition are available to pre-purchase on Steam, the latter of which also includes the game's season pass. Xbox One owners will soon be able to pre-order games digitally via the Xbox Live marketplace, according to Sunset Overdrive developer Insomniac Games. During the latest episode of the Sunset TV promotional series, a fan asked if those who purchase the game via Xbox Live at launch will be eligible for the recently-revealed Day One Edition bonus content. "Yes, if you pre-order the game digitally, you will get the Day One Edition content," host Brandon Winfrey replied. "You can't pre-order it digitally yet, but soon you will be able to." There's no word on how soon the new pre-order scheme will appear, but Winfrey seems certain that the system will be in place by the October 28 debut of Sunset Overdrive. While our attempts to pry more information from Microsoft have so far been to no avail, Winfrey's revelation should come as little surprise. Only four months ago, Xbox Studio Manager Mike Ybarra mentioned digital pre-orders as a feature he'd "love" to see on Xbox One, before noting that it was among numerous features Microsoft had in mind for the console.
