Markus "Notch" Persson is mainly known as the man behind Minecraft, but he's quickly developing a reputation for eccentric games that cover everything from speed typing to existential drama. If there's any doubt, you just have to look at his latest title, Cliffhorse. Yes, it's as absurd as the title suggests -- you play a horse pushing a giant ball around cliffs, and there isn't more to it than that. However, that barely-there design (which took all of two hours to build) is really the point. Persson describes the Windows-only game as a jab at developers who abuse early access programs by charging money for "minimum effort" releases, where most of the content theoretically comes later. And yes, he's aware of the irony given that he charged for Minecraft well before it was finished.
Such livery, very race: Dogecoin car to join NASCAR '14
In its quest to accurately recreate the thrills of NASCAR, developer Eutechnyx has revealed plans to distribute Josh Wise's car in an upcoming NASCAR '14 DLC release - a car that just so happens to bear the confusingly endearing face of doge. Unfamiliar with doge? We don't how that's even remotely possible at this point, but as a quick primer, the online humor researchers at Know Your Meme describe doge as "a slang term for 'dog' that is primarily associated with pictures of Shiba Inus (nicknamed "Shibe") and internal monologue captions on Tumblr." Over the past year, doge has grown into such a beloved Internet fixture that fans of the Bitcoin cryptocurrency developed Dogecoin, a similar virtual currency that bears the adorable, mischievous smile of doge in place of the Bitcoin logo or the face of a long-dead politician. That brings us to earlier this year, when teenaged NASCAR fan Denis Pavel was watching a race and noticed a black Ford with no sponsorship livery to speak of. Given that most NASCAR entrants are equal parts automobile and rolling billboard, this machine stuck out like a sore thumb, prompting Pavel to rally members of the NASCAR subreddit to raise the $50,000 necessary to cover Josh Wise's car in a full-body Dogecoin ad. The livery proved immediately popular, especially among younger NASCAR fans. Seeing this, NASCAR '14 developer Eutechnyx decided to add the vehicle to its racer in an upcoming DLC pack. "As the company behind the NASCAR video games and mobile games, we love to see more technology-oriented partners getting involved in NASCAR," Ed Martin, executive vice president of Eutechnyx, told CNN. "I think it will bring NASCAR to the attention of a lot of people that haven't been exposed before." Josh Wise's NASCAR entry in the Aaron's 499 at the Talladega Superspeedway is wrapped and ready to race after raising more than $55,000 in Dogecoin, a Doge meme-inspired virtual currency. The NASCAR Ford Fusion started the season as a plain, black, sponsorless car, but some kindness from the subreddit /r/Dogecoin, miraculously transformed the car into Shiba Inu-bedecked masterpiece. Oh and don't worry if you miss the running of the race May 4th, Lionel Racing apparently makes official die-cast replicas in two different scales of every NASCAR entry.
Such wow -- First Dogecoin wallet is out on iOS
Cryptocurrencies have exploded over the last few years, creating nongovernmental economies that allow users to buy goods with "money" made from ones and zeros. The craze kicked off with Bitcoin, but other competitors are rising with surprising regularity pulling their inspiration from figures like Kanye West (who sued) and traditional startup ideas alike. Still only one cyrptocurrency has recently been growing in a way that should make cryptocurrency fans say "wow." Or maybe "such wow." That currency is Dogecoin. Inspired by the famous "Doge" meme, Dogecoin was founded out of a desire to have a cryptocurrency that was free from the sometimes shady uses Bitcoin became famous for early in its existence. Currently the fifth most popular cryptocurrency being traded, Dogecoin has been growing steadily. That growth can only be helped with the recent launch of Dogecoin's own iOS digital wallet, MYDOGE. MYDOGE allows users to quickly and easily manage their Dogecoin wallet, while keeping up to date on how the currency is trading on digital markets. While the app currently doesn't allow users to make purchases directly from the wallet, you can still share your wallet's address by scanning your QR code. MYDOGE launched on February 6, so it is still in the puppy stage of its existence. Still this is a big first step for fans the digital currency that will allow its disciples to easily show off and explain Dogecoin to new people using a familiar interface. We're not quite to the "such wow" level of excitement over this app just yet, but MYDOGE is something you should keep your ears open for. This is an important first step. We'll be curious to see if MYDOGE can help dig up new users of the currency. We'll also be curious if Apple keeps the app in the store, considering the final Bitcoin wallet was just removed.
