  • Dragon Quest Swords gets a slimey sale

Most reviewers rank Dragon Quest Swords: The Masked Queen and the Tower of Mirrors as mediocre, but $17 sounds like a fair price for the game. If you happen to agree (and can buy games from Amazon.com), you should probably hit up Amazon's "Deal of the Day." The battle system might take you to "Waggle City" and the story might fall a little flat, but cheap prices tend to make up for these things. Then again, the price of Dragon Quest Swords has been dropping steadily at Amazon for a while now, and might even go lower in the near future. Unfortunately, we're too busy to get into our time machines and check.

Not all of us are up to the challenge of a brutal roguelike, and that's okay. In fact, that's what roguelike-lights such as Pokémon Mystery Dungeon are for. Just because said games don't beat your spirit to a pulp, though, doesn't mean they're not enjoyable, especially for Pokémaniacs. Today's a good time to become an explorer of time or darkness, as both Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time and Explorers of Darkness are being offered as Amazon's deal of the day. Each one is currently on sale for $22.99, and will be until 12:00am PDT. Yet, if you're not familiar with the Pokémon Mystery Dungeon series, you might want to check out our review of the game (well, games) first.

  • Amazon: $20 Advance Wars, $20 return on DS Lite

Amazon is currently stuffed full of great stuff for DS fans. Advance Wars: Days of Ruin is the latest Deal of the Day, though we're guessing that, with a $19.99 price tag, that one's gonna go fast. Or, if you happen to be in the market for a DS Lite, or a copy of Guitar Hero: On Tour, Advance Wars could be free. How? Amazon is currently offering a $20 gift card with the purchase of Guitar Hero or select Lite models. Not a bad deal for a couple of games and a peripheral, or a spankin' new DS Lite.[Update: Reading comprehension suffers in the middle of the night. As a reader pointed out, the gift card deal is Guitar Hero: On Tour, plus a DS Lite, not one or the other. Less great deal, unless you were already looking for that combination! Thanks, Wiiboy!]Read - Deal of the DayRead - $20 Gift Card promotion

With the release of Crosswords DS this week, will a $10 price cut compel you to buy New York Times Crosswords instead? Amazon's "Deal of the Day" happens to be everyone's favorite alf-loving crossword game (again). While $10 for any game is hard to resist, keep in mind that puzzles from the New York Times are tough -- make sure you have the mental fortitude before picking this one up. You might also want to note, though, that Mother's Day will be here soon, and this might make a nice, cheap gift for DS-owning moms.

Just a reminder to all you friendly folks in the U.S. -- Amazon is having crazy DS deals today. The retailer kicked off its Gold Box sales awesomely, offering Advance Wars: Days of Ruin for $16.99. If we don't say so ourselves, that is damn sweet. You have until 12am Pacific time to bite on this, but we recommend getting it sooner rather than later because we doubt supplies will last.As for the lightning deals, we've listed them here (with our guesses for ones that haven't been confirmed yet). Keep in mind, these are in Pacific time, and each deal lasts for four hours (assuming they don't go out of stock): 6am-10am: "Will you answer the call?" - Confirmed: Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare for $18.99 10am-2pm: "Dazzle your unsuspecting friends with your magical prowess." - Confirmed: Master of Illusion for $14.99. 2pm-6pm: "Protect the Earth, destroy the invaders." - Confirmed: Tranformers: Autobots 6pm-10pm: "Your destiny awaits. Experience the power." - (Our guess: Naruto: Ninja Destiny) We suppose that with such an awesome "Deal of the Day," we can forgive Amazon for everything else being subpar. Keep in mind, though, that these are just our guesses. We'll update the post as other sales are confirmed.[Update 1: Master of Illusion was confirmed as the second lightning deal and was added to the post.][Update 2: Transformers: Autobots is the third lightning deal. And, would you look at that -- Master of Illusion sold out. Who would have thought?][Via CAG]

  • Tomorrow's Amazon Gold Box rumored to feature DS games

The word on the street is that Amazon's next game-related Gold Box special is going to feature five DS games, which (as you can imagine) we're very excited about. The first deal in the Gold Box is the video game "Deal of the Day," and will be made available tonight (technically tomorrow) at 12am Pacific time (or 3am EDT, if you're on the East Coast like this blogger). We know that's ridiculously late to stay up for a deal, but the beauty of it is that you don't have to. Whatever the game is (many are guessing Mario Kart DS because of the upcoming Wii game, but who knows!), it will be on sale for twenty-four hours or until stock runs out.The other four sales are considered "Lightning Deals," since the marked-down prices only last for four hours (or while supplies last). The first of these will start at 6am Pacific time, while the rest will be made available at 10am, 2pm, and 6pm.We have some ideas of our own, but what are you hoping to see on sale?[Via CAG]

  • House of the messenger bag

Earlier this week, we informed you lovely readers that House of the Dead 2 & 3 Return was super cheap at Circuit City. Now Amazon also has the game listed at the irresistible price of $19.99. We really don't mean to keep shoving this game down your throats, but how can you have any pudding if you don't eat your meat? Yet, if you didn't buy House of the Dead earlier, there's probably nothing that would motivate you to get it now except an even bigger price drop. It's also worth noting that Amazon's "Deal of the Day" is the Wii messenger bag pictured above. If you geekified hipster types were looking for a way to lug around your Wii, this bag for $19.99 isn't too bad of a deal. But, to be honest, there are probably better means that you can use to transport your console. That's just our opinion, though. What do the rest of you Wii aficionados think? Is it us, or has Amazon been a great place for Nintendo shoppers lately? In any case, today's "Deal of the Day" is Trauma Center: New Blood, the most recent (until July 1st!) Trauma Center game on the market. If Atlus decides to bring the series back to the DS for good, this may be the last time you get to operate with your Wiimote. The deal also provides pretty decent savings, as the game is marked down by $17 (meaning it will cost you $32.99). Is anyone planning on getting this today? If so, just make sure you order it before 3am EDT.%Gallery-4686%

Should you need a good dose of point and shoot in your games library, you might feel inclined to take advantage of Amazon's "Deal of the Day." At $32.99, you can shoot up some Nazis for pretty cheaply by getting the Wii version of Medal of Honor: Heroes 2. We think it's a pretty good game (unless you live in Australia), and it used to be Dave's favorite Wii title to play on Game Night until that Nintendo brawler came out. Does anyone think that they'll bite on today's deal? If so, just make sure you do it before 3am EDT.%Gallery-6588%

  • Smackdown someone for $25 today

Not many of you seemed too excited when WWE Smackdown vs. Raw 2008 came out, but then again, that was the same week as Super Mario Galaxy's North American release. Also, at that time, the game would have cost you a cool $50 to buy. Now, though, thanks to Amazon and its video game "Deal of the Day" promotion, you can get the game for half the price (or, for those of you that are terrible at math, $25). As per usual, this sale will end at 3 A.M. EDT, so if you want this title you better be ready to succumb to your inner impulse buyer. Also, if you like to wrassle but aren't too keen on doing so on your Wii, today's DotD extends to every other console under the sun.

If you're one of the few who decided this game wasn't worth owning at the $50 price range, you might want to give it a second look. Amazon's Deal of the Day has Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles on sale for the low price of $30. As if the prospect of shooting horde after horde of the undead wasn't enough to sell you ...But, in case it wasn't enough to sell you on the game, this should sell you on it. The game will also ship for free from Amazon, so no need to plunk down any extra dough there. If you don't know why we're so excited for an on-rail shooter, you haven't read our review of the game.Note: If you're interested in this sale, don't hesitate. It was already pulled once while we've been watching it. The game is no doubt a hot item right now. %Gallery-3286%

  • If you need a DS Lite adapter, today's the day to get one

    by

    01.05.2008

Since the official DS Lite AC Adapter is a much better way to go about charging your DS than the crank we showed you earlier today, we thought we'd let you know that this accessory happens to be Amazon's video game related "Deal of the Day."We assume that this is a useless deal for most of you, since DS Lites come with one, but we're sure some of you have either misplaced yours or want an extra for traveling. Still, be careful; while the adapter is marked off by $5 (meaning that it only costs $10), you'll have to pay for shipping unless you're a Prime member or find $15 worth of other merchandise to add to your cart. Without the free shipping, this really isn't much of a deal at all.

Are you looking for a gift for someone about whom you know nothing except The person is a child, and He or she owns a Nintendo DS? Also, are you not going to see this person until several days after Christmas? Then Amazon can help you out with a gift idea. They've got THQ's Avatar: The Last Airbender: The Burning Earth, based on that one cartoon we saw one time when we were browsing our parents' awesome satellite channel lineup, for $14.99, a savings of 50%. It got middling reviews, but things always look better when they're cheaper. Those reviews do indicate that Avatar's a pretty good action game while it lasts. Joys be thine, maybe, after 8-10 shipping days!

  • Yoshi's Island for a Baby Mario-sized price

    12.20.2007

Artoon is in the news right now for the Mistwalker-assisting work of founder (and Sonic the Hedgehog character designer) Naoto Oshima. But before Oshima was designing blocky, vacant-eyed adventurers, he served as producer on a fairly high-profile Nintendo project: Yoshi's Island DS. In case you have yet to see how the creator of Blinx: The Time Sweeper handled the sequel to one of the most beloved Mario games ever, Amazon is giving you the chance to check out the game for a painless $15. The critics got a kick out of it, at least. And if you're going to buy one game about taking care of babies, it may as well be this one and not ... one of the others. But be quick about it: this deal expires at the end of the day.

After only about a month of availability, Donkey Kong: Barrel Blast has had $20 knocked off its price. But it's not because it's a horrible failure or something -- it's just Amazon's Deal of the Day! It's not often that first-party stuff gets discounted so soon, even just for a day. If you're looking for a Donkey Kong-themed racing game on the Wii involving bongo-barrel-shaped jetpacks, then this is probably the game for you, as it's the only game that description fits. For now. With the extra money, you can go buy a couple of bongo controllers ... and ... not use them with the game!

Like their previous sale, Circuit City is making available to consumers two high-profile Wii games on the cheap. The first title, Red Steel, might not be the kind of game that consumers would go rushing to purchase due to its low review scores. However, the second title, Rayman: Raving Rabbids, received much better scores. Still, for the small price of $30 USD, is it worth it to check out Red Steel? How many of you plan on taking advantage of this deal?[Thanks Gonzo!]

  • Deal of the Day: Zelda Wii on the cheap

    01.02.2007

Priced at $37.49 US (including free shipping), The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess is the lowest price we've seen for a Wii game yet. Sadly though, Circuit City's website will not allow you to purchase the game and pick it up in-store, meaning you'd have to wait a few days for it to arrive on your doorstep. Now, we also understand that pretty much anyone who bought the Wii already also bought this game, so this could possibly be useless news to a majority of you. What say you all?[Thanks totufa!]
