"What's this thing? It looks pretty cool. What pretty icons! Can I touch them? I can, really?" Etc. That basically describes our infantile thought process when we stumbled across the DreamScreen 400 (not to be confused with the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/09/17/hps-new-dreamscreens-pack-pandora-and-facebook-into-a-wireless/">DreamScreen photo frame</a> line), a new all-in-one desktop from HP, but suddenly it all became clear: this thing is built for the Indian market, and us chubby Americans will have to keep on dreaming. Still, it's an interesting thought experiment. HP has long sought to differentiate itself in its Windows-based offerings, and even at times abandoned its first OS love with its <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/hp,mie">Mobile Internet Edition Ubuntu-based netbooks</a> and now its <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/webos,hp,@tabletpcs">upcoming webOS tablets</a>. The DreamScreen 400, which runs some flavor of Linux with an extensive, touch-friendly HP skin on top, sort of demonstrates an alternate reality where HP decided to pursue Linux in the consumer desktop space -- Microsoft be damned. Of course, this is also an <em>actual</em> reality: you should be able to buy this 18.5-inch desktop in India for Rs. 19,999 (about $450) in India right around nowish, and we'll see where HP takes this software from here.<br />

Photo frames sure have come a long way -- from back when they were photo frames. The new HP DreamScreen 100 and 130 (which we <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/07/14/hps-dreamscreen-digiframe-puts-on-a-facebook-and-pandora-show-f/">spotted back in July</a>) pack in 2GB of built-in storage, and all the assorted connectivity for pulling in photos from a camera, drive or networked PC (802.11b/g or Ethernet), but stack on top of that 10,000 internet radio stations, Facebook, Snapfish internet photos, a full-featured music player, Pandora, weather and even a fancy clock. The unit has a built-in speaker, but you'll probably want to use the sound-out jack to get any reasonable enjoyment in listening. The 10-inch DreamScreen 100 goes for $249 and is available today, while the DreamScreen 130 bumps it up to 13.3-inches and will be out this fall for $299. PR is after the break. <div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/hp-dreamscreen-press-shots/">HP DreamScreen press shots</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/hp-dreamscreen-press-shots/#2293943"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2009/09/hp-dreamscreenpr-02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/hp-dreamscreen-press-shots/#2293942"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2009/09/hp-dreamscreenpr-03_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/hp-dreamscreen-press-shots/#2293941"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2009/09/hp-dreamscreenpr-04_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/hp-dreamscreen-press-shots/#2293945"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2009/09/hp-dreamscreenpr-05_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/hp-dreamscreen-press-shots/#2293944"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2009/09/hp-dreamscreenpr-06_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div> <div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/hp-dreamscreen-hands-on/">HP DreamScreen hands-on</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/hp-dreamscreen-hands-on/#2293960"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2009/09/hp-dreamscreen-02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/hp-dreamscreen-hands-on/#2293961"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2009/09/hp-dreamscreen-03_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/hp-dreamscreen-hands-on/#2293957"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2009/09/hp-dreamscreen-04_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/hp-dreamscreen-hands-on/#2293956"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2009/09/hp-dreamscreen-05_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/hp-dreamscreen-hands-on/#2293958"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2009/09/hp-dreamscreen-06_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /><p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/09/17/hps-new-dreamscreens-pack-pandora-and-facebook-into-a-wireless/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>HP's new DreamScreens pack Pandora and Facebook into a wireless photo frame</em></a></p><p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/displays/" rel="tag">Displays</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/household/" rel="tag">Household</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/wireless/" rel="tag">Wireless</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/09/17/hps-new-dreamscreens-pack-pandora-and-facebook-into-a-wireless/">HP's new DreamScreens pack Pandora and Facebook into a wireless photo frame</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Thu, 17 Sep 2009 00:30:00 EST. Yes, it's yet another a <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/digiframe">digital photo frame</a>, but HP's next entrant looks like it could be something special, making a stop by the FCC and taking its full manual with it, thus opening all of its mysteries and functions to the wild. Available in two sizes, 10.2- and 13.3-inches at 800 x 480 and 1,280 x 800 resolutions (respectively), the DreamScreen will sport your typical selection of features, including 2GB of internal storage, wired and wireless connectivity, a remote control, and support for memory cards like CF, SD, and Memory Stick. Where things get interesting is online integration; the frame will be able to pull pictures directly from Facebook and Snapfish while streaming tunes from Pandora, meaning re-living vacation pics while discovering new artists just became a curious possibility. No word on whether you can give friends' poorly composed holiday snaps and that new Moby album a thumbs down at the same time, but we can hope.<br /><br /><strong>Update:</strong> Is that the 10.2-inch <a href="https://fjallfoss.fcc.gov/oetcf/eas/reports/ViewExhibitReport.cfm?mode=Exhibits&amp;RequestTimeout=500&amp;calledFromFrame=N&amp;application_id=354105&amp;fcc_id=%27UCV-HDS100">DreamScreen 100 in the FCC</a> as well?
