Simple.TV's first streaming DVR had its rough edges, but the company is clearly willing to make improvements -- it just announced the second generation of its set-top box. The redesign is more flexible, sporting both a second tuner and compatibility with international broadcast standards like DVB-C, DVB-S2, DVB-T2 and ISDB-T. Both first- and second-generation owners will also get a revamped Version 2.0 interface that offers personalized content, faster updates and new streaming clients for Android, iOS, Roku players and the web. Simple.TV doesn't yet have pricing for the new DVR, but it tells us that both the device and the Version 2.0 upgrade will reach the US by mid-to-late November; Europeans will get the hardware next spring.

Bharti Airtel, India's largest private sector telecommunications company, is getting set to dabble in the crazy world of DTH satellite service. Beginning today, it will offer television to 62 cities in India, and according to Atul Bindal, president, Bharti Telemedia Services, the outfit will be "aggressively marketing its DTH service by offering superior quality at competitive prices." Additionally, the carrier will be utilizing the MPEG-4 standard with DVB-S2 technology in order to broadcast more content using less bandwidth, making it ripe for HD delivery. Initially, at least, packages will start at Rs.2499 ($52) in northern India and Rs.1499 ($31) in southern India, which includes the price of an STB and installation. There's no high-def content on tap just yet, but we'd be shocked if that's still the case a year from now.

We've already seen what Samsung plans on bringing to Berlin in just over a month, but a new duo from Loewe is lookin' mighty fine in its own right. There's not a whole lot being divulged prior to the expo's opening day, but we are told that a 42- and 47-inch ART SL LCD HDTV will be shown off to the public. Each set will reportedly boast a Full HD panel, 100Hz technology, built-in 250GB hard drive (optional) and an integrated DVB-T / DVB-C or DVB-S2 TV tuner. Each unit will be made available in glossy black or silver chrome, though we'll have to wait until August to get pricing / release information.
