Giant bugs will invade your Vita's giant (for a handheld screen) and they will get shot to pieces for doing so. Earth Defense Force 2017 Portable, the PlayStation Vita port of the Xbox 360 B-movie sci-fi shooting game, is coming to North America. The announcement of the localized release coincides with today's release of the Japanese version. There's currently no release window for EDF 2017 portable stateside. D3 Publisher didn't include that information, but did chant "EDF! EDF!" a few times.

Zangeki no Reginleiv, everybody! No, we didn't just wish you happy holidays in Russian -- that's the name of Nintendo's upcoming Japanese release (it basically means "Dynamic Slash," or "Dynamic Zan") that's not only its first Cero D-rated ("M") title ever, but also developed by Sandlot, the folks behind 2007's action gem-in-the-rough Earth Defense Force 2017. As you can see in the new trailer (posted for your viewing enjoyment after the break), the game features Norse heroes doing some MotionPlus-enabled hacking and slashing that results in screen-filling sprays of blood and dismemberment. Good, good times. It's highly unlikely we'll ever see this one show up here in North America -- Nintendo of America and mature games don't usually mix well. But you can still grab your Wiimote, watch this trailer while waving your arms around, and dream.

Over at Siliconera they've scored an interview with D3 Publisher to talk about the upcoming Xbox 360 version of Earth Defense Force 2017. This admittedly Japanese game is finally making the trek over to North America where D3 Publisher thinks it'll be a hit with the 360 community. To be honest, we've never heard of Earth Defense Force, but after reading the interview we're interested. The game is all about blowing up a massive amount of enemies, various enemies ranging from ants to robots. Nothing is too weird to kill. And you won't be running out of ways to kills your foes since there are over 150 different weapons. Big explosions, big enemies, lots of enemies, lots of weapons ... we're so in on this one.
