Fancy taking photos on the fly and then uploading them to your preferred list of social networks? Good thing, then, that Kodak has your best interests at heart. Announced at this year's CES extravaganza, the company's showing off two of its newest connected imaging devices -- the Kodak Playfull Dual Camera and Easyshare M750. The compact Playfull has a 12MP camera capable of full HD 1080p video capture at 60fps, with an accompanying Xenon flash and a port for an external mic. But those specs aren't the camera's real draw -- that'd be it's built-in WiFi ability. Using the Share Button, users can instantly upload photos and video to YouTube, Kodak's own Gallery, as well as Facebook. The company's more traditional looking point-and-shoot refresh, the Easyshare M750, touts a 16MP module, 3-inch capacitive touchscreen, a RETINAR HD 5x zoom lens and a similar capability to share content wirelessly via an available network or through an installable app on iOS, Android and BlackBerry. When it launches later this spring it'll retail for around $170 and come in a smattering of colors, like silver, teal blue and red. As for the Playfull, well, nothing's quite been announced on it yet, but that could all very well change this week. Check out the official pressers after the break.
Continue reading Kodak intros new connected Easyshare M750 and Playfull Dual Camera, adds instant uploads over WiFi

Kodak intros new connected Easyshare M750 and Playfull Dual Camera, adds instant uploads over WiFi originally appeared on Engadget on Mon, 09 Jan 2012 17:45:00 EST.
We're not quite sure why it wasn't part of the trio of Easyshare announcements earlier today, but Kodak has also rather quietly slipped out its new Easyshare Max camera, which is apparently the "world's only camera with 3-step sharing" (apart from the other just-announced Easyshare point-and-shoots, that is). In other more meaningful specs, the camera also packs an impressive 30x optical zoom with optical image stabilization, a 12 megapixel backside illuminated sensor, a 3-inch HVGA LCD and EVF 'round back, and full 1080p video recording. Look for this one to start shipping on March 9th for $330.

Kodak slips out Easyshare Max camera with 30x optical zoom, '3-step sharing' originally appeared on Engadget on Tue, 04 Jan 2011 21:54:00 EST. Things are just getting underway here at CES in Las Vegas, and Kodak's on-hand in order to serve up its latest smorgasbord of optical treasures. Without further ado, allow us to present to you the Easyshare Touch -- a $149.95 offering with a three-inch capacitive touchpanel, a dedicated video record button, a 14 megapixel sensor, 5x Schneider-Kreuznach lens and an HDMI output. Next up is the $99.95 Easyshare Mini, described as Kodak's smallest camera yet. It's "around the size of a credit card," offering a 3x wide-angle optical zoom lens, a built-in front mirror (you know, for those glorious self-portrait sessions), a ten megapixel sensor and a 2.5-inch rear LCD. Moving right along, there's the $79.95 Easyshare Sport, which is the outfit's first waterproof camera that can go up to ten feet underwater without any significant consequences. It'll also shrug off dirt and dust while snapping 12 megapixel shots and previewing them on the 2.4-inch LCD. Sashaying over to the video realm, there's the $149.95 Playfull camcorder, which touts an ultraslim design (it'll "fit in the pocket of your skinny jeans," according to Special K), a 1080p capture mode and an unmistakable 'Share' button to get your footage onto YouTube or a social network without any wasted time.

The company's also using CES as an opportunity to launch the next generation of its Playsport video camera, with this $179.95 model being waterproof up to ten feet, shockproof, dustproof and capable of logging clips at 1080p. You can also snap stills at five megapixels, and that previously mentioned 'Share' button is predictably tacked on here as well. Speaking of revisions, the Pulse digital photo frame is also seeing a gentle refresh, with this one available in 7-inch ($129.95) and 10-inch ($199.95) sizes. The newcomers add the ability to comment on the pictures you receive from friends and family, with our favorite predetermined response being "Such a KODAK MOMENT!" Seriously. Oh, and these also have an ingrained activity sensor that turns the frame off when you walk away, and brings it back to life when you re-approach. Finally, the ESP C310 all-in-one printer will be selling for $99.99, but so far as we can tell, Kodak would rather extol the virtues of its ink-saving abilities than drum up interest in its cutting-edge feature set. Further details can be spotted in the full release after the break.
While Sony's new Bloggie Touch provides the template for how simple and easy a touchscreen camcorder could really be, Kodak's similarly well built and attractive PlayTouch provides a stark contrast, with a modicum of simplicity on the surface, but a megaton of functionality to uncover. The PlayTouch isn't as pick-up-and go as the Bloggie, but the basic touchscreen controls can be quickly mastered. What sets the PlayTouch apart are the in-depth features like an external microphone jack (complete with gain control), video effects (like black & white and sepia modes), and the particularly ambitious video editor. You can only trim shots and extract stills from that latter mode, but paired with the newer generation EasyShare functionality that lets you pre-assign photos and videos for upload to YouTube and Facebook, among other services, you can almost completely avoid using your computer as anything but a dumb pipe to the internet.

The PlayTouch really isn't a "gift it to your grandma" sort of camcorder; even with a $230 pricetag you still have to bring your own SD card, there's no built-in storage, and most of the higher end functionalities like the external audio jack will be lost on the general populace. Still, if you're looking for a pocket camcorder that is more than just a dumb pocket camcorder, Kodak seems to be continuing the niche it carved out for itself originally with the Zi8.

Gallery: Kodak PlayTouch preview

Kodak PlayTouch preview originally appeared on Engadget on Fri, 03 Sep 2010 10:21:00 EST.

Kodak just kicked out a pair of devices with its Playtouch pocket camcorder and EasyShare M590 point and shoot. Kodak's $229.95 Playtouch is capable of shooting image stabilized 1080p video with stereo audio to SDHC cards. A 3-inch capacitive touchscreen gives you plenty of room to edit your video (or extract a still) on camera before flipping out the USB arm for a quick PC transfer. Otherwise, an HDMI jack lets you pump that digital keepsake right to the living room television without the PC assist. Rounding things out are an external microphone jack and Share button that makes it easy to push those memories to YouTube or FaceBook, or send via email if that's your preference. Kodak's rather mundane $199.99 EasyShare M590 is being billed as the world's slimmest digital camera with 5x optical zoom. Otherwise, things simmer down with a 2.7-inch LCD, some kind of image stabilization, face recognition, unspecified HD video capture, and microSD card support. And as you'd expect, the M590 also features a Share button that makes tagging and uploading photos and video to social media sites like Facebook, Flickr, and YouTube a snap. M590 image and press releases after the break. Expect both cameras to ship sometime in the fall.
Continue reading Kodak's Playtouch 1080p pocket camcorder and EasyShare M590 announced

Kodak's Playtouch 1080p pocket camcorder and EasyShare M590 announced originally appeared on Engadget on Mon, 23 Aug 2010 01:33:00 EST. Kodak stopped manufacturing the oldest film in its catalog last year, but Dwayne's Photo in Parsons, Kansas kept its Kodachrome processing rig around just in case. Last week photographer Steve McCurry processed the final manufactured roll of Kodachrome there - 33 frames taken around New York City, and three taken in Parsons. A crew from National Geographic (where McCurry made his name, specifically with the iconic "Afghan Girl" cover photo) documented the final roll's journey from the factory to processing, so you'll probably be able to find out more on it soon. Oh, and if grandma's a real shutterbug, you might want to tell her to check the attic for any spare Kodachrome rolls she has lying around -- Dwayne's is the last remaining Kodachrome processing facility in the world, and that service will stop on December 10th. Now, if it's quite alright -- pardon us while we attempt to capture a meaningful moment on our soulless Easyshare ecosystem of products.
Final roll of Kodachrome processed in Kansas; angel sheds a rainbow-colored tear originally appeared on Engadget on Wed, 21 Jul 2010 19:33:00 EST.
Where do you show most of your digital photos to friends? Probably via Facebook or Flickr or the like, but many consumers simply do the most logical thing: turn their camera around and squint at the dinky LCD. That was the idea behind the Slice, announced yesterday and more or less designed around a lovely 3.5-inch touchscreen that may not be quite as big as a 4 x 6 print, but it's far more versatile. The 14 megapixel camera has a solid feel in the hand and looks great. For those feeling a little more adventurous there's the 1080p Playsport camcorder, which looks and feels more or less like a beefy Flip. To prove its disrespect toward moisture, the camera was unceremoniously plunked into a fish bowl, where it seemed hardly perturbed. Finally is the Pulse digital photo frame, a somewhat pedestrian-looking seven-inch, 800 x 600 model that sports the ability to receive photos via e-mail, so you can shoot those pics of the grandkids off to nanna without her having to touch a thing. Pictures of all that and a pair of new EasyShare models in the gallery below. Oh, and a crab, too.
Just in case you had any doubts, CES is in full swing. Kodak just blurted out a galleria of new goods, starting with the all-new Slice touchscreen camera (shown above). As you likely expected, this is the outfit's first touchscreen P&S, boasting a 3.5-inch rear display, a search function to sift through "up to 5,000" photos on the internal memory, a direct tag feature, 14 megapixel sensor, 5x optical zoom, built-in optical image stabilization and 720p (30fps) video capture. It'll ship this April in black, nickel and radish (yeah kids, radish) for $349.95. Next up is the April-bound Pulse digital photo frame, which boasts a 7-inch display (800 x 600 resolution), integrated WiFi, 512MB of storage and a $129.99 price tag. Rounding out the bunch is a load of new EasyShare cameras (all detailed in the press release below), as well as a Playsport camcorder, which offers up waterproof 1080p action with electronic image stabilization, a 2-inch LCD, 5 megapixel still shots, smart face tracking technology and an SD / SDHC card slot. There's also an HDMI output and USB connectivity, and you'll find black, blue and purple editions shipping this April for $149.95. You're stoked, aren't you?
Had enough Kodak this fine morning? No? Good. Just hours after showcasing its newest 1080p pocket camcorder, the aforesaid firm is hitting us up with a few more new pieces to digest. First up is the EasyShare Z950, a modest megazoom-in-a-P&S-body that packs a 10x optical zoom, 12 megapixel sensor and a $279.99 price tag. Next, we've got the totally ho hum EasyShare M381, which also offers a dozen megapixels alongside a 3-inch rear LCD, 5x zoomer, easy upload to Facebook / YouTube, face detection, a variety of lovely hues and an MSRP of $179.99. The last cam is the M341, which steps down to a 3x optical zoom and a smaller 2.7-inch LCD for $149. Closing things out is the EasyShare D830 (£119.99; $196) and D1030 (£169.99; $279) digital photo frames, which check in at 8- and 10-inches respectively (in terms of display size) and tout interchangeable face plates, 512MB of internal memory, a Quick Touch border, memory card reader and a USB port. Everything here should ship in the US and UK by September, though those hungry for additional details are welcome to tap that read link.

[Via DigitalCameraInfo]

Kodak debuts EasyShare Z950, M381 and M341 digicams originally appeared on Engadget on Wed, 29 Jul 2009 05:22:00 EST. While a smattering of other camera outfits decided to out most of their new point-and-shoot models a few weeks prior to PMA, Kodak has kept with tradition by breaking their new kid out here in Vegas. The EasyShare Z915 is a markedly standard 10 megapixel shooter, boasting a 10x image stabilized optical zoom lens, the company's own Smart Capture feature to automatically snag the best shots, support for AA batteries, a 2.5-inch rear LCD and an SD / SDHC card slot. It'll be available in red, blue, black and gray this April for a completely respectable $199.95. Trouble is, you'll probably forget this thing even exists by then. Full release is after the break.

Gallery: Kodak introduces EasyShare Z915 with 10x zoomer

Continue reading Kodak introduces EasyShare Z915 with 10x zoomer

Kodak introduces EasyShare Z915 with 10x zoomer originally appeared on Engadget on Tue, 03 Mar 2009 00:01:00 EST. PMA may be but a few months off, but that's not stopping Kodak from dropping a few show-stoppers here at CES. Up first is the Z980 megazoom ($399.95; Spring 2009 availability), which offers up a 26-millimeter wide angle lens with a mind-boggling 24x image stabilized optical zoom. You'll also find a 12-megapixel sensor, a vertical shutter release, HD video capture and a detachable vertical grip. On deck is the March-bound EasyShare M380 point-and-shoot ($179), a 10-megapixeler with a 5x optical zoom, 2.7-inch LCD monitor and your choice of black, red, or teal color schemes. Finally, we've got a few new SDHC cards from the outfit, with 4GB, 8GB and 16GB variations coming soon for undisclosed amounts. Full release is just past the break.

Continue reading Kodak delivers Z980 24x megazoom, M380 point-and-shoot cameras

Kodak delivers Z980 24x megazoom, M380 point-and-shoot cameras originally appeared on Engadget on Sun, 04 Jan 2009 14:10:00 EST. Traces of the cam were spotted a few weeks back, but the outfit chose today to formally introduce it to the world. The point-and-shoot boasts an absurd 14-megapixel sensor, face detection technology, 5x optical zoom with optical image stabilization, ISO up to 6,400 and a 720p movie mode at 30fps. Truthfully, the specs don't look so bad on paper, but are you seriously considering spending three bills on a camera that reeks of 2001 in the design department? Nah, we thought not.

[Via LetsGoDigital]

Kodak reveals EasyShare Z1485 IS point-and-shoot originally appeared on Engadget on Tue, 23 Sep 2008 14:22:00 EST. Nothing too spectacular here apart from Smart Capture, which intelligently adjusts settings based on the scene, but you're getting an image stabilizer, ISO 3200 sensitivity, and an optional HDTV dock for two bills, so it's not a bad deal -- just don't expect your socks to be rocked. Kodak's got a new one for the semi-casual point-and-shoot crowd, the EasyShare Z1015 IS. The 10 megapixel Z-series camera manages a 15x optical zoom, a 3-inch LCD, HD footage at 720p and 30 fps, and Kodak's Perfect Touch processing. Naturally the IS implies optical image stabilization, but the 6400 ISO should help out in the shaking department as well if grain is not an issue, and full manual controls should help out all the in-betweens. It'll go for $350 come September.

Gallery: Kodak's EasyShare Z1015

Kodak's EasyShare Z1015 IS shooter packs 15x zoom, 10 megapixel sensor originally appeared on Engadget on Thu, 10 Jul 2008 00:42:00 EST.
It's been a little while since we caught sight of Kodak's last batch of digital photo frames, but the company's now come back for another go 'round with a trio of new EasyShare frames, each of which pack Kodak's newfangled "Quick Touch" borders. That feature lets you scroll though photos simply by sliding your finger along the border, as well as giving you control over all the frame's other functions via the interface pictured above. Apart from that, the frames appear to be pretty standard fare, with the M820 and M1020 models boasting 8 and 10-inch screens, respectively, along with the usual audio and video support, 128MB of built-in memory, and accommodations for all the most used memory card formats. If that's more than you need, you can also opt for the 7-inch P720 model, which hangs on to the Quick Touch border but drops everything but the most basic photo frame features. Look for all three of 'em to start shipping on April 16th, with the P720, M820 and M1020 setting you back $120, $180, and $230, respectively.

Yeah, Kodak's being a little slow with its pre-PMA goods, but barely early is better than nothin', right? Here we have the firm's newest megazoom, the EasyShare Z1012 IS, which steps it up over the CES-announced Z1085 IS by housing a 10-megapixel sensor and a full 12x optical zoom. Reportedly, this shooter sports a chassis small enough to "fit in the palm of your hand (all hands?)," and in case the "IS" didn't give it away, you can also expect optical image stabilization. Moreover, you'll find ISO up to 3,200, program, aperture and shutter priority (as well as "full manual mode") and face detection technology for good measure. What's clear is the $299.95 price tag, what's not so clear is the release date -- look for it sometime during "the first half of 2008."

[Via LetsGoDigital, thanks David]

Kodak intros EasyShare Z1012 IS: 10-megapixels, 12x zoomer originally appeared on Engadget on Wed, 30 Jan 2008 20:43:00 EST. Not that we really expected Kodak to blow the doors off here at CES, but it did manage to unveil a gaggle of new cameras. On the docket first is the EasyShare V1273, which features a 12-megapixel sensor, a 3-inch LCD touchscreen and a 3x optical sensor. Following closely behind is the 10-megapixel M1033, which also shares the aforementioned 3x zoom / 3-inch monitor. Lastly, we've got the Z1085 IS Zoom, which gets equipped with a 10-megapixel sensor, a 5x optical zoom and optical image stabilization. It's also noted that the V1073, Z1285 Zoom and the Z8612 IS were mentioned, but we're left to surmise that these are simply variants of the others with a few more / less megapixels.

Update: There's also an EasyShare m763, m863, m893 IS. Bet you can't tell which one has an image stabilizer.

[Via ShinyShiny]

Kodak intros slew of new EasyShare cameras originally appeared on Engadget on Mon, 07 Jan 2008 18:20:00 EST. We hope you weren't counting on Kodak to get you all amped up about this one, because its EasyShare C813 is about as ho hum as they get. This fantastically average point-and-shoot sports a been-there-done-that design, an 8.2-megapixel sensor, 3x optical zoom, 2.4-inch LCD monitor, ISO up to 1,250, 16MB of internal storage space and an SD / MMC expansion slot. Furthermore, you can capture video in Motion JPEG format at VGA (15fps) or QVGA (30fps), and considering that it runs on just a pair of AA cells, you won't have to worry over losing a proprietary battery. If you're still with us, you can call the C813 yours for $119.95 (or less on the street) -- just don't expect it to spice up your life, cool?

[Via LetsGoDigital]

Kodak offers up EasyShare C813 point-and-shoot originally appeared on Engadget on Thu, 03 Jan 2008 06:23:00 EST. Kodak has had some trouble producing true winners with its EasyShare lineup, but while we can't guarantee that the new V1253, V1233 and Z812 IS cameras will get the job done, they're at least a step in the right direction. The V models are slim and attractive, while the HD prowess of all three cameras is certainly a winner. We just wish Kodak would stop making us feel so bad about not wanting to buy into their whole printing ecosystem if we were ever to pick one of these up.

Gallery: Hands-on with Kodak's new EasyShare lineup

Hands-on with Kodak's new EasyShare lineup originally appeared on Engadget on Sun, 02 Sep 2007 19:15:00 EST. Not that anyone was impatiently refreshing Engadget in anticipation of this news, but Kodak just made their trio of leaked EasyShare cameras official. We mean really, really, super official with pricing and dates as opposed to the information gleaned off their site courtesy of Google's cache. The $300 V1253, $250 V1233, and $300 Z812 IS are all available now. They're also launching their $100 Easyshare HDTV dock with remote control for a quick and dirty TV hookup along with a 10-inch SV1011 digital picture frame with 800 x 480 resolution for $200. See, you don't know everything.

Kodak get official with EasyShare cameras, launches new frame and HDTV dock originally appeared on Engadget on Thu, 30 Aug 2007 01:43:00 EST. We're expecting an announcement any time now, but Google cache has already revealed some inadvertently posted product pages for a trio of new Kodak EasyShare shooters. The Z812 IS (pictured, top-left) is an 8.2 megapixel cam with 12x Schneider-Kreuznach Variogon zoom lens which doubles-up as a chubby 720p / 30fps video recorder. It's also said to feature a 0.23-second click-to-capture capability while packing optical image stabilization to help manage the shake and noise from that biggie zoom and reported ISO 3200 sensitivity. The V1253 (pictured, bottom) and V1233 then, are both 12 megapixel shooters that offer the same 720p video recording as the super zoom. The V1253 packs a 3.1-inch LCD to the 2.5-incher found on the V1233. Both lack any kind of optical image stabilization, however. Now come on Kodak, make 'em official with dates and pricing.

[Via LetsGoDigital]

Read -- Z812 (via Google cache)
Read -- V1233 (via Google cache)
Read -- V1253 (via Google cache)

Kodak's new trio of EasyShare cams courtesy of Google cache originally appeared on Engadget on Mon, 27 Aug 2007 07:18:00 EST. Hot on the heels of the SSD shootout comes a five-man competition stocked with some of the most prolific digital photo frames on the market, and now that prices on these bad boys are dipping down from the stratosphere, there's a good chance you'd like to know which would look best in your den. Thankfully, GearDigest has taken the task upon itself to pit Kodak's EasyShare SV710, Pandigital's 7-inch Photo Frame, Philips' 7FF1CM1, Smartpart's Portable Picture And Video Player, and Westinghouse's DPF-702 against each other to see who's really the champ. After hours of viewing countless relatives and vacations of yesteryear, the group found that the obvious assumptions of "you get what you pay for" proved completely true. The four frames not labeled by Philips all featured a similar 16:9 display with a paltry 480 x 234 resolution, and while a few offered niceties not found elsewhere (Kodak's PictBridge, for instance), all of the devices were decent at best in terms of image quality -- and they all ranged from $119 to $129.95 in price. Handily snagging the gold was the $199 7FF1CM1, which upped the ante with a 720 x 480 panel and proved worthwhile if you actually want your photos to shine. But hey, it's still your dough, so do your duty and dive into the full review below before swaying one way or another.

[Via DigitalMediaThoughts]

Seven-inch digital photo frame shootout originally appeared on Engadget on Fri, 27 Jul 2007 10:08:00 EST. Here's one straight out of left field. While we were all anxiously affixed on Sony and Canon waiting for either to kick out a CMOS-packin' point-and-shoot camera, along comes Kodak to shake things up. Apparently, those five-megapixel CMOS sensors it had been working on are ready to rock, as the firm's EasyShare C513 includes one along with a 3x optical zoom, 2.4-inch LCD monitor, digital image stabilization, video capture, and in-camera editing functions. Best of all, this entry-level device is priced at just $99, and while this pioneering unit is slated to hit shelves next month, we've got a sneaking suspicious the flood gates are about to bust wide open with CMOS-stuffed pocket cams.

Kodak stuffs CMOS sensor into EasyShare C513 point-and-shoot originally appeared on Engadget on Tue, 24 Jul 2007 10:06:00 EST. Kodak's hitting all the budget-friendly sweet spots today. Alongside those "fancy" Z712 IS and Z885 shooters, these new C613 and C763 (pictured) EasyShare cameras are positively barebones, with $120 and $180 pricetags, respectively. Luckily, Kodak didn't do away with specs entirely: the C613 sports a 6.2 megapixel CCD and 3X zoom, while the C763 bumps it up to 7.1 megapixels. The screens are particularly impressive for the prices, at 2.4-inch and 2.5-inches. ISO, in about the 800 range, naturally isn't as notable as that of the Z series we saw earlier, and there's no optical image stabilization to keep your pics blur-free, but the combination of low price, small size and beefy megapixels should garner this pair a bit of success when they drop in April. Peep the C613 after the break.

Read - C613
Read - C763
Continue reading Kodak's new EasyShare C613 and C763 keep it slim and cheap

Kodak's new EasyShare C613 and C763 keep it slim and cheap originally appeared on Engadget on Wed, 07 Mar 2007 16:30:00 EST.
These two new additions to Kodak's EasyShare line are targeted to consumers who seek a user-friendly interface, wallet-friendly prices, and of course, a good photo. The 8.1-megapixel Z885 packs in 5x optical zoom, up to 8000 ISO, 2.5-inch indoor / outdoor display, and 10 automatic smart scene modes for a modest price of $199.95. If you're lookin' to go wannabe-DSLR and have an extra $100 to spare, the 7.1-megapixel Z712 IS will deliver a 2.5-inch display, 10x optical zoom, image stabilization, and 0.26-second click-to-capture speed. These newbies have yet to prove their worth, but we can at least appreciate that they won't stab you in your pockets and they're pretty straightforward -- no fancy-pants extras to get in the way. The Z712 IS will be available in April with the Z885 coming out sometime in May.

Read - Kodak EasyShare Z885
Read - Kodak EasyShare Z712 IS

Of course, Kodak has been selling photo printers for a while now, but this new launch is a full-on assault on the king of printing: HP. Kodak's secret is to skip over the whole bait and switch model of most printer sales, where everybody discount their printers heavily, and make it all back on exorbitant ink prices. Kodak will be charging reasonable prices for its three new EasyShare All-in-One printers, the 5100, 5300 and 5500 (pictured) which can print copy and scan for $150-$300, but the ink costs are at $10 for a black cartridge and $15 for a five color cartridge. With ink about half the price of competitors -- Kodak's secret is a print technology that doesn't require the print head to be in the cartridge, just ink -- Kodak is hoping consumers will feel free to print more photos and in turn buy even more ink from the big red K. The technology also supposedly produces prints that can last up to 100 years, and will be making it into stores with these new EasyShares in March. Who knows if this will be enough to give Kodak a fighting chance in the consumer print world, but even if all that results is a speedy and bloody price war, we sure wouldn't be complaining.

[Via Cnet]

Kodak enters the desktop printer market, plans to rumble with HP originally appeared on Engadget on Tue, 06 Feb 2007 10:43:00 EST. But hey, this time we're talkin' Kodak, so we're expecting the same ease of use we've seen from the rest of their EASYSHARE line-up of cams, printers, and accessories. The four new frames consist of a 10 and 8-inch (diagonal) pair with built-in 802.11b/g WiFi (EX1011 and EX811) and a couple of 8 and 7-inch standard frames (SV811 and SV710). All support the usual memory card formats (CF, SD, MMC, xD and MS) and bring a USB 2.0 host port to pull files direct from any USB digital cam or flash drive without the aid of a computer. Like many frames these days, you get support for not just JPEG images but also MPEG-1, MPEG-4, MOV and AVI video formats and a bit of MP3 audio to accompany slideshow playback. You'll also get built-in stereo speakers, 128MB of internal memory, and interchangeable faceplates including a "whiteboard' faceplate for those longing for the homey feel of the corporate conference room. The top of the line EX1011 WiFi frame features a 10-inch , 800x480 display and should retail for $280 in March. Prices drop off from there until you hit the rock-bottom, 7-inch SV710 sporting a low, low 480x234 resolution for an equally low price of $130. If you're a member of the <strike>female demographic</strike> pastel-conscious club, may we suggest "pink bliss"?

Kodak shoots out 8 and 10-megapixel EasyShare V803, V1003 originally appeared on Engadget on Sun, 07 Jan 2007 12:18:00 EST. This time around it's an addition to the already loaded EasyShare lineup, as the 6.1-megapixel C653 joins the fray. Sporting a (somewhat) compact 3.5- x 2.6- x 1.4-inch enclosure, the point-and-shoot boasts a 2.4-inch LCD monitor, mediocre 3x optical zoom, 32MB of built-in memory, SD / MMC expansion slot, three pre-selected scene modes, panorama functionality, up to 1,250 ISO, and automatic red-eye reduction. Additionally, you can capture VGA movies at 10fps or QVGA clips at 20fps, and Kodak's Perfect Touch technology supposedly clears up your photos without a lot of effort on your part. You'll also find USB 2.0 connectivity and the company's EasyShare software bundled in, which supposedly helps the technologically disabled share and email photos without pulling what's left of their hair out. While there's clearly not a whole lot here to be proud of, at least the price is fairly reasonable, and those scouting a very run-of-the-mill shooter can pick up the C653 now for $129.95.

[Via PhotographyBlog]

Kodak quietly releases 6.1-megapixel EasyShare C653 originally appeared on Engadget on Fri, 05 Jan 2007 14:15:00 EST. They're coming fast and furious this morning and now Kodak joins the Photokina party with their newly announced EasyShare Z710. The new model boasts a long, Schneider Kreuznach Variogon 10x optical zoom lens, 7.1 megapixel sensor, and 2-inch LCD. And to keep things as easy as possible, the cam comes packed with Kodak's Color Science image processing chip and a wide range of features and presets allowing you to keep your eye on the action and not the controls. Thing is, without any image stabilization like that found on the P712, you'll find it a challenge to take advantage of the impressive zoom. Still, with a price of only $299, you can afford not to care... much. Watch for the Z710 to drop sometime this month or November 1st according to Amazon.

[Via Photography Blog]

Kodak's EasyShare Z710: 7.1 megapixels and 10x zoom originally appeared on Engadget on Mon, 25 Sep 2006 09:41:00 EST. Kodak's top-tier P712, announced in June, sure has some good specs for its price range, like a 12x zoom, 0.07 click-to-capture rate (which Kodak claims is the best in its class), RAW image capture and the always welcome optical image stabilization. The folks at Digital Camera Review have been doing what they do, and seem to like like the camera for the most part. The image stabilization does its thing without a hitch, shutter speed is practically instantaneous, and the 2.5-inch LCD and EVF were some of the best the reviewer has seen. There do seem to be a few chromatic aberrations and noise problems with the image quality, though overall it's pretty good, and the autofocus can be sluggish at times, nullifying the gains of that speedy shutter. The P712 also suffers from a shortage of battery life, managing around 150 shots with most of the features engaged, but the 14.2 ounce camera does feel good in the hand. Overall, it's hard to match for the $500 pricetag, and should make a good choice for a beginner photog or a DSLR wannabe.

Kodak's Easyshare P712 "performance" cam reviewed originally appeared on Engadget on Thu, 10 Aug 2006 14:02:00 EST. That 8 Megapixel EasyShare C875 got away from them last week, but Kodak has managed to do some right proper releasing for the other three new members of their EasyShare lineup. Sexiest of the group is naturally the V705, a followup to their V570. The V705 shares its predecessor's 5x zoom and ultra-wide-angle lenses, and sports the same 2.5-inch LCD, but bumps the dual CCDs to 7 megapixels. There's also a bit of anti-blur tech, and 30 fps VGA video recording. Kodak doesn't really have a lot to say about their other two new cameras, the C743 and C433 (both pictured after the break), other than the fact that they've got 7.1 and 4 megapixels respectively, and 3x zoom lenses. They're also going to "provide remarkable features at reasonable prices," and should be available in September alongside the V705.

[Via Digital Camera Review]
Continue reading Kodak's new EasyShares, the V705, C743 and C433

Kodak's new EasyShares, the V705, C743 and C433 originally appeared on Engadget on Tue, 08 Aug 2006 12:50:00 EST. The semi-compact unit has a 5x zoom lens, includes 32mb of built-in storage, a 2.5-inch screen and uses SD memory to store that megapixel overkill. At 1.4-inches thick and 3.5 ounces heavy, Kodak seems to have packed this one pretty well, but the £249 pricetag ($467 USD) is a quick reminder that those megapixels don't come cheap.

Kodak's new EasyShare C875 leaks into Europe originally appeared on Engadget on Thu, 03 Aug 2006 19:30:00 EST. Unfortunately, just like its wide-angle bro, the V610 is getting a mixed reaction from reviewers. DCRP got their hands on the V610 and were certainly pleased by the slim design, MPEG-4 movie recordings, new Perfect Touch feature to brighten and generally improve shots at the touch of a button, decent performance, and Bluetooth 2.0 wireless transfer capabilities. However, the cam had "more than its share of annoyances" with "so-so" picture quality including above-average noise, a "miserable" 135 shot capable battery, and a poorly designed four-way navigation control around back. But this cam's all about that fat, 10x zoom right? Well, those two lenses result in a slow, non-continuous zoom with a 16-millimeter "jump" in focal length when switching between lenses -- this was especially "jarring" when zooming in movie mode. And the lack of image stabilization in this expensive cam makes it "awfully hard" to produce a sharp photo on a camera billed as an ultra-zoom model. Bottom line: forget the V610 and pick up the 10x Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ1 for $100 less.

[Via Digital Photography Blog]

Kodak's EasyShare V610 10x ultra-zoom reviewed originally appeared on Engadget on Mon, 03 Jul 2006 08:32:00 EST. Without as much worry for raw megapixels this time around, Kodak is bringing out their new EasyShare P712 7.1 megapixel camera with 12x zoom and high-speed capturing to tempt the semi-prosumer crowd. With a suggested retail price of $499, the shooter strikes quite the bargain for its price range, with 12x optical zoom, optical image stabilisation, speedy auto-focus and a 0.07 click-to-capture rate. Kodak has also included a 2.5-inch LCD and a hot shoe, along with 30 fps VGA video capture and RAW support. The P712 should be shipping worldwide this July.

[Via DP Review; thanks Justin]

Kodak adds P712 to top of EasyShare line originally appeared on Engadget on Tue, 20 Jun 2006 10:18:00 EST. We're liking the looks of this Easyshare V603 6.1 megapixel shooter from Kodak, but just because Kodak makes it sexy doesn't mean the pictures will turn out -- as their V570 so completely evidenced. Luckily, the V603 seems to have pics as well as looks, and that 2.5-inch LCD doesn't hurt nothing neither. Kodak had to lose the optical viewfinder, but the LCD seems to be plenty usable in bright sunlight, so it shouldn't be missed. The 3x optical zoom is just average, but the built-in flash manages pretty well for its size. With ISO values from 80-800, you should find something that works. Noise is minimal up to ISO 200 and shouldn't be much of a problem at ISO 400 for small prints. The reviewer liked the feel and controls of the camera, and at 0.9-inches thick it shouldn't be too bothersome in a pocket. Image quality was pretty good, and though the camera on auto has a tendency to overexpose images, that's an easy fix in the settings. Operation was also quite speedy, and the interface is pretty easy to get along with. It's not hard to find a 6 megapixel camera for less than the V603's $280 pricetag, but it seems to be a pretty good compact offering from Kodak all the same.

Kodak Easyshare V603 reviewed originally appeared on Engadget on Tue, 06 Jun 2006 20:10:00 EST. Introduced on theoccasion of the EasyShare line's fifth birthday, the so-called "Scan the World" technology will beincorporated into modified check-scanning machines for initial deployment as stand-alone kiosks or behind the counterat drug stores, which can currently turn your bits into atoms, but not vice versa. According to Kodak, the scanners usesoftware which is able to identify different photographic paper for estimating the decade in which the picture was shot, and can even group pictures featuring like individuals through facial recognition. Future versions of the applicationwill also incorporate OCR capabilities for reading watermarks or handwritten notes on the back of photos, furtherimproving the accuracy of the tagging engine.
Filed under: Digital Cameras, Misc. For one thing, without major kludges, it was impossible to upload via WiFi to any site other than Kodak's own EasyShare Gallery. For another, out-of-the-box hotspot support was largely limited to T-Mobile's network -- great if you're a Starbucks fan, but something of a pain if you want to upload on the go without having to constantly reconfigure your settings manually. While we're still hoping Kodak addresses the first problem (would it really kill them to offer flickr support?), the company has at least promised to address the second one with the next version of the camera, due out this summer for $299 (not including the WiFi card). According to Kodak, the new camera (EasyShare Two? EasyShare One Plus?) will have WISPr (Wireless Internet Service Provider recommendation) protocol support for easier hotspot access. We're hoping they'll bump up the megapixel count from 4 to 6, and add 802.11g support as well, but we'll have to wait a bit to find out.

[Via Wi-Fi Networking News]

Kodak plans EasyShare One follow-up with better hotspot support originally appeared on Engadget on Tue, 25 Apr 2006 17:21:00 EST. Even though we didn't previously know its name, we've been waiting around for Kodak to announce the EasyShare V610,their first Bluetooth-enabled camera ever since we saw it appear in the FCC not too longago. What we weren't expecting was a device that claims to have 38-380mm focal length 10x optical zoom (which can beengaged while recording video!). This is a feat not accomplished by mere mortal compact digital camera makers, and haspreviously only gone into cleverly designed cameras like Ricoh's R4 (7.1x zoom) and Panasonic's TZ1 (10x zoom). We're still trying to figureout exactly how a camera with no expanding barrel or crazy folded prism optics system is going to work a 10x opticalzoom (and how useful we can make that without a little OIS assistance), but each of the V610's two lenses, much likethe V570 before it, feature a 6 megapixel sensor capable of shots upto ISO 800 (with pixel binning, no doubt). It also features, as mentioned, Bluetooth 2.0 for transferring images on thego, as well as to Kodak kiosks and printers (sounds like it will have the OBEX profile), a 2.8-inch display, 28MB ofinternal flash, SD slot, and comes ready to roll in a 4.4 x 2.2 x 0.9-inch body. It could be available as early as Mayfor as little as $630 US, but we don't have any solid info yet; check out a comparison shot of it and the V570 afterthe break.
Continue reading Kodak's EasyShare V610 with 10x optical zoom

Kodak's EasyShare V610 with 10x optical zoom originally appeared on Engadget on Tue, 25 Apr 2006 09:05:00 EST. We're notentirely sure of the purpose here, but Kodak filed with the FCCfor a Bluetooth camera module that "is to be installed only by the professionals and used only with any productproduced by Kodak." Yes, this thing's internal -- normally they'd just file for a camera with the radio, but thisisn't the camera, this is the component. See why we're a little confused? So unless Kodak's going to start offeringBluetooth upgrades for their point-and-shoot cameras (which would arguably cost in parts and labor more than the cameraitself), it's dubious this is anything more than a proof-of-concept for future, yet unearthed-in-the-FCC cameras, likethe one in which the device appears to be implanted (that dual-lenser that sure as hell aint a V570, that much we can tell you).

[Via MobileWhack]

Kodak's Bluetooth camera module originally appeared on Engadget on Sun, 02 Apr 2006 12:54:00 EST.
