<p class="p1">Chevy just announced pricing for its <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/11/27/chevy-details-2014-spark-ev/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">2014 Spark EV</a>. The all-electric compact will retail for $27,495 before incentives, such as a $7,500 federal tax credit and up to $2,500 in state and local credits. All told, you could drive the car home for less than 18 grand, and California residents will net <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2007/04/22/thieves-swiping-hov-exemption-stickers-from-hybrids/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">HOV (carpool lane) access</a> to boot. The four-door vehicle ships with a 21kWh battery pack, giving you an estimated range of 82 miles on a full charge. You can also add on DC Fast Charging capability, letting you recharge up to 80 percent in about 20 minutes at select stations. Alternatively, you can charge up using a 240-volt system in about seven hours. The car also includes Chevy's <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/11/27/chevrolet-iphone-siri-spark-mylink-impala/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">MyLink infotainment platform</a>, the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/11/16/gm-promises-two-new-smartphone-apps-to-help-keep-your-ev-charged/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">RemoteLink smartphone app</a> and three years of OnStar service. It'll be available at select dealers in California and Oregon by mid-June.</p>

<p class="p1"><strong>Update:</strong> In the original version of this post, we incorrectly reported that the Spark is a two-door compact. There are four doors, however -- the rear handles are hidden from view.</p>

<p>With a wire transfer of $451.8 million, Elon Musk has finally made good on <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2013/02/27/elon-musk-tesla-doe-loan/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">his promise</a> to repay the hefty loan Tesla received from the Department of Energy well ahead of its 2022 due date, beating even Musk's own five-year estimate. This comes on the heels of a very <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2013/05/08/tesla-q1-2013-earnings/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">profitable first quarter</a>, and is yet another sign the electric car maker is doing quite well on the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2013/05/09/tesla-model-s-gets-consumer-reports-top-score/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">greener side</a> of things, despite a touch of <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2013/02/18/nyt-says-tesla-model-s-review-the-result-of-shaky-judgment/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">bad press</a> earlier this year. <p class="p1">Anyone who's visited Hong Kong within the last few years has probably experienced the city's thick soupy smog. Sure, things aren't as bad as they are in Beijing, but pollution from the mainland often wraps the metropolis in a humid haze -- and we're not sure an all-electric taxi rollout is going to do anything to alleviate that. Just 45 of the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/12/29/byd-motors-to-debut-e6-premier-s6dm-plug-in-vehicles-at-the-det/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">BYD e6</a> cabs are now on the road, so the release is mainly symbolic -- only a few dozen lucky drivers will be cruising up to 300 kilometers (186 miles) of city streets between charge breaks at one of nine area stations. Private citizens, for their part, can take ownership of the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/10/28/byds-e6-goes-on-sale-in-china-still-mulling-trek-across-atlant/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">e6 Premier sedan</a> -- the civilian version just began shipping as well.</p>

<p class="p1 image-container" style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2013/05/06/terrafugia-tf-x-vertical-takeoff-flying-car/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget"><img alt="Terrafugia researching TFX, a verticaltakeoff flying car" data-src-height="185" data-src-width="620" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2013/05/terra-tfx.jpg" /></a></p>

<p class="p1">We've been hearing about <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/04/04/terrafugia-transition-aircraft-first-hands-on-video/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">Terrafugia's Transition</a> "flying car" for, well, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/08/05/terrafugia-transition-flying-car-shows-up-at-air-show-doesnt-f/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">far too long</a>, considering that it has yet to even venture <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2013/04/07/terrafugia-transition-not-likely-to-see-production-this-year/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">beyond the prototype phase</a>. The <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/03/19/video-terrafugias-flying-car-lifts-off/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">prop plane</a> / <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/07/05/terrafugia-transition-aircraft-gets-dot-roadworthiness-sign-off/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">roadworthy vehicle</a> combo has its fair share of fans -- some of them with deep enough pockets to place an order -- but it won't be making its way from your garage to the runway anytime soon. With that in mind, the company's TF-X vertical-takeoff model is even less likely to see the light of day, but it's being considered nonetheless.</p>

<p class="p1">The plug-in hybrid-electric aircraft would take off and land vertically, like a helicopter -- if the DOT and FAA allowed it, you could literally fly over the highway whenever you run into traffic, though we can't imagine that pilots will ever get the green light to take off from public roads, even if the TF-X becomes a reality. For now, it exists only in the minds of Terrafugia's ambitious team, a few image renders and a minute-long animated demo, which we've embedded for your viewing pleasure after the break.</p>
