Wearing headphones at a concert isn’t as weird as I thought it would be

One of the worst concerts I've ever attended in my life -- in terms of pure sound quality -- was at Barclays Center. I get that arena shows are never going to be known for their top-notch acoustics, but the concrete cavern that the Brooklyn Nets call home is particularly bad. It's why I chose it as the venue to see Elton John and test out Peex Live, a service that promises to deliver an ideal music experience no matter how bad your seats (or sound engineer) are. There's a catch though: You have to wear headphones at a concert. That's about the most unintuitive thing I've ever heard of.

With Apple Music launching in less than a week, much of the focus has been on its relationship with artists and the royalties it pays. Thanks to Taylor Swift, it appears to have weathered its minor storm, allowing it to focus on other parts of its upcoming launch. Beats 1, for example, will begin broadcasting on June 30 and will be fronted by ex-Radio 1 DJ Zane Lowe in Los Angeles, Ebro Darden in New York and Julie Adenuga in London. When Apple's first live radio station was announced, it wasn't known how the company intended to fill the programming gaps between the three main hosts. However, the New York Times reports that it has lined up a number of high-profile musicians to do their part, with Dr. Dre Pharrell Williams, Drake, Jaden Smith, Josh Homme of Queens of the Stone Age, Disclosure and even Elton John due to present their own shows.

Aside from announcing the first three Beatles albums to be released as DLC for upcoming tear-jerker The Beatles: Rock Band, MTV Games and Harmonix today revealed intentions to bring the Rock Band DLC count to 1,000 songs by this holiday. At the current rate Harmonix is releasing songs for the franchise -- without factoring in the Rock Band Network -- that's roughly 500 songs per year.Additionally, the companies have revealed a number of the artists that will be contributing to the holiday goal, including Queen, Nirvana, Tom Petty, Elton John, Iggy Pop, The White Stripes, Pantera, Talking Heads, Korn, and The Raconteurs, as well as the ever elusive "and more." Out to give the rumored MySpace MP3 player a run for its money, Elton John has launched his own iPod nano lineup, raising money for a charity close to his hearts and our own -- the Elton John AIDS Foundation. After last week's less-than-stellar offering, we're back to more of the heavy hitters. This week features a couple movies just seeing their first releases and a classic that's sure to look wonderful on Blu-ray. Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End Superbad: Unrated Extended Special Edition Elton 60: Live at Madison Square Garden Queen Rock Montreal & Live Aid Mr. & Mrs. Smith Cast Away 20 Million Miles to Earth While we'll kindly pass on seeing Elton John in hi-definition, we're huge fans of anything Judd Apatow touches, so Superbad is a must buy. And despite watching Cast Away at least a dozen times, we'll happily pick it up to see one of Tom Hanks' best performances ever.

  • Elton John signs an exclusive iTunes deal

Well, for a while, at least. Sir Elton John will release his entire back catalog of music - that's 30 + albums and over 400 songs - exclusively to the iTunes Store (ITS) on March 26. The ITS will remain the exclusive online distributor of this collection of music until April 30th, at which time Elton will (presumably) make the offer to other distributors. It's a coup for Apple, as Elton is a legendary musician, and a display of faith in iTunes by Elton himself. Now, as Infinite Loop points out, this is what many of us were hoping would happen with the Beatles' music now that their legal case with Apple had been settled, but it won't be the case. Anyway, if you're a fan of Sir Elton and you're looking to complete your collection, fire up iTunes on March 26th.

Today's hottest game video uses a low-tech wax solution to replace the Wii sensor bar. In a darkened room, light two candles (Tommy by the Who optional), and you've got an instant Wii sensor bar replacement. Simple infrared science at work, folks. You can also replace the Wii console with a block of cheese. The word is out, Nintendo ... sorry.Check out the video after the jump and stock up on fanboy scented candles. If the technical difficulty gremlins are still active, check out the video here.
