With release just a scant week away, DC Universe Online has a loose end to tie up -- specifically, the still-ongoing beta test. In the grand tradition of betas, of course, it won't be with a simple message to buy the game and a server shutdown. No, players will get to take part in something epic in the tradition of the source material, with a grand battle involving iconic characters of the universe as well as player characters. Each of the closing events involve two iconic DC figures going head-to-head -- either Superman against Lex Luthor or The Joker versus Batman. Players will have the opportunity to fight alongside the iconic villain or hero depending on character alignment, with times varying based on the server. And in the event that you can't attend, the team will be helpfully posting status updates on each iconic battle, as well as possibly introducing a few new wrinkles to complicate the event. DC Universe Online testers should still do their level best to be present for the battles -- after all, who wouldn't want to close off a beta by teaming up with Batman?%Gallery-112847%

The end of beta event for Star Trek Online was a crazy smorgasBorg of some pretty epic proportions. The invasion forces were everywhere you turned, and it seemed like no matter how hard players tried, there were Borg everywhere. Thankfully, we've gotten some great Star Trek Online screenshots from players that we'll be showing off -- like today's One Shots! This one comes to us from Neville, who writes in: This was a shot taken from Sol (Earth Spacedock) at the Open Beta ending event. I hope the Borg aren't claustrophobic! One Shots is all about your experiences in your favorite games. If you've caught something awesome you'd love to share with the world, send it in to us here at oneshots AT massively DOT com along with your name, the name of the game, and a description of what we're seeing. We'll help you share it with the world -- or at least the chunk of the world cool enough to read Massively, anyway. %Gallery-9798%

While it hasn't been that long since Champions Online launched, looking back at the end of beta events still gives us a warm fuzzy for "back then." The other thing is that it makes us pretty psyched up for a Halloween event. After all, if end-of-beta was that much fun, then the holiday events should hopefully be at least as good - if not better. Today's Champions Online One Shots comes to us from Joe R. who gives us his RP spin on the event. During one of the last days of open beta, Millennium City was attacked by Mega Destroids! We were able to repel the attack, but not before we lost some good champions. They will be missed. With the holidays coming, we really want to see some fun screenshots of new costume pieces, events, and more! Be sure to snag those strange October happenings and email them to us here at oneshots AT massively DOT com along with your name, the name of the game, and a quick description. We'll post it out here for everyone to share in the thrills and chills - and give you the credit! %Gallery-9798%

Beta tests. It seems like no sooner do you turn around these days than you trip over a beta. With so many games coming out in the second half of this year, it also means we get to check out the various end of beta events! Fallen Earth's Apocalypse Parties were lower-key, involving groups like the above pictured mix of folks getting their groove on. The actual end, however, involved getting everyone to join in on a free-for-all PvP fest where the GMs made themselves and a few other people enormous. Champions Online had a huge invasion of Destroids - robotic bad guys - bent on destroying everyone and everything. We can only guess what might be coming with some of the other games set to close down their betas soon. While those are only a couple of examples, we know there have been some truly stupendous end of beta events. From huge scripted events like The Matrix Online's end of beta to smaller, more informal events held with friends, there are great memories to be had. So tell us, dear readers - what was your favorite ever end of beta event?

The end is nigh, my friends. The end of Fallen Earth open beta, at least. This Saturday, August 29th, the Fallen Earth team will be celebrating the end of their stress testing with an Apocalypse Party from 3pm to 6pm EDT. There will be in-game food, drinks, entertainment and even special tokens that will provide an XP bonus. These tokens, called Beta Clone Psychoactive Shots, will grant a +15% XP bonus per hour. One token can be earned per half hour mark during the event (for a total of 7), and can be carried over to the live servers after launch.Despite this event occurring on Saturday, the open beta won't properly shut its doors until Tuesday, September 1st at midnight EDT. Then we'll all have to wait 15 days (9 days for pre-orders) to see the wasteland again. Have more questions? Check out the Fallen Earth Open Beta FAQ for complete details.

Citizens of Millenium City, take up your arms! Dr. Destroyer is attacking the city once more, but this time he has sent in legions upon legions of robots, including new Mega-Destroid! The robots are all over the city, but the Champions have been dispatched to fix the crisis, along with countless other heroes! If you want to get in on some Dr. Destroyer smashing action, then you have to act today! It's the last day of the Champions Online beta test, and they're going out with their usual bang. All you have to do is log in, visit Millenium City (available from the Canadian or Desert helipads) and then speak with the cop on the helipad who's waving his arms about in the air. Once you do that, you'll be leveled up to 40, given all the powers you ever wanted, and you'll have a shot at taking down some Mega-Destroid. Destroids will be attacking until 3 AM ET, 12 AM PT this evening, when Cryptic switches off the lights. Those who take down the Mega-Destroid will be given a special perk for their accomplishments (although the perk is kinda borked right now) and a special Mini-Destroid action figure for the live game! Kinda cool, and cute, in a destructive kind of way.

It's almost time for the Pirates of the Burning Sea beta to come to a close, with the game's scheduled release date not too far ahead. Flying Lab Software has updated the official PotBS page to announce the timing of some end of beta events that they previously hinted at.Depending on the server you play on, the events will commence at different times of day. Black Bart server's event will begin at 12:00pm PST, Rackham at 2:00pm PST, and Blackbeard at 4:00pm PST. Each of these times are preceded by the word "about" on the official site, so there's no need to sit around tapping your pocket watch impatiently if the festivities haven't started precisely on the hour.As of the latest build of the game, the level cap has been removed, allowing the maximum of 50 to be attained, and the auction houses have been packed with useful items like XP books (that speed the rate of experience gain) and ship deeds. To help buy these goodies, every player will receive 1 million doubloons upon logging in. It has been said that if all the items on the auction house get bought, FLS will be able to restock them. It looks like they really want to end this thing in style.
