	<a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/09/16/sony-alpha-nex-5n-makes-clicking-sound-when-moved-renders-captu/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2011/09/2011-09-16-sony5nclick.jpg" style="border-width: 0px; border-style: solid; margin: 4px;" /></a></div>
We've spent a few <strong><em>click</em></strong> days shooting <strong><em>click</em></strong> with <strong><em>click</em></strong> Sony's new <strong><em>click</em></strong> <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/08/24/sony-nex-5n-replaces-nex-5-adds-16-1-mp-sensor-25-600-max-iso/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">NEX-5N</a> <strong><em>click</em></strong><strong><em> click </em></strong><strong><em>click</em></strong> and were very <strong><em>click</em></strong> impressed with its <strong><em>click</em></strong> still image performance <strong><em>click </em></strong><strong><em>click </em></strong>but <strong><em>click </em></strong>noticed some... Oh man, we've <em>gotta</em> hit Stop. As you can see, the camera suffers from a rather significant yet-to-be-diagnosed condition that outputs a mysterious clicking sound whenever you move it about. Since it's quite faint, this is little more than a minor nuisance when shooting stills, but when you go to playback video <strong><em>click</em></strong> it's impossible to ignore, rendering the audio component of your video virtually useless.<br />
<br />
We've been able to isolate the sound to the camera body itself, so it's completely independent of the lens and other accessories. We also happen to be testing a variety of <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/09/15/sony-alpha-nex-7-hands-on-preview-video/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">new Sony products </a>this week in San Diego, and had Sony reps on hand to acknowledge and confirm the issue, which seems to plague every NEX-5N that we've tried. This is still very fresh, so Sony doesn't have a fix or even a statement to issue, but because 1080/60p video is one of this camera's headline features, we're going to recommend holding off on your purchase until the company can confirm what's causing the issue. Jump past the break to hear it for yourself in our demo video.<br />
<br />
<strong>Update: </strong>To clarify our experience, we've only tested four cameras, all of which were likely manufactured at the same time. All four cameras presented the same clicking sound, but Sony is still investigating the issue, and has by no means implied yet that all NEX-5Ns are affected. We will of course share any updates as we receive them from Sony.<br />
<br />

	We've already heard plenty of <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/nikon,mirrorless?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">talk</a> about Nikon's forthcoming entry into the world of mirrorless cameras, and it looks like we now have our first real peek at the actual goods. Unfortunately, it's just a look at the mount, not the whole camera (said to be codenamed X810), but it does appear to be the real deal (and was apparently removed from the Chinese forum it surfaced on, <em>Xitek</em>, at Nikon's request). Details on the camera itself are otherwise still fairly light, but it certainly sounds like Nikon has some grand plans for it -- the company's previously boasted that it wants to create a whole <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/09/04/nikon-wants-to-create-a-new-market-with-its-new-concept/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">new market</a>.</div>

A dark shadow has befallen the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/06/07/sonys-nex-3-nex-5-interchangeable-lens-cameras-get-reviewed/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">Sony NEX-3</a> interchangeable lens camera, the shadow of being described as "no longer in production" by its maker's official website. Coming out in <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/05/10/sonys-nex3-5-cameras-priced-june-release-date-leaked/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">June of last year</a> alongside its more celebrated <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/06/16/sony-nex-5-preview/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">NEX-5</a> brother, the NEX-3 enjoyed some decent success with critics, mostly owing to its oversized 14.2 megapixel sensor, and showed no signs of struggling commercially, however Sony has seen fit to halt production within eight months of its introduction. Reasons haven't yet been given, though we imagine people were willing to spend the extra cash to upgrade to 1080p video recording and a magnesium alloy body on the NEX-5, which is what rendered the NEX-3 expendable. At least we know the NEX-5 and the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/07/15/sony-nex-vg10-hd-camcorder-preview/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">NEX-VG10</a> will keep <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/02/08/sony-releases-specifications-for-e-mount-lenses-desperately-wan/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">E-mount lenses</a> going into the future, so current NEX-3 owners should have little to worry about. If anything, their camera just became that extra bit more exclusive. <br />

Remember that patent for a <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/12/25/nikon-patent-app-details-lens-with-manual-and-electronic-zoom-v/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">manual-and-electronically-zooming Nikon lens</a>? The rumor mill thinks it knows where it belongs: in Nikon's unannounced CoolPix P500, an update to the company's <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/04/22/nikon-coolpix-p100-reviewed-found-to-contain-oodles-of-zoom-and/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">already-ludicrously-lengthy P100</a> that adds a 36x optical magnifying glass and bumps the backside-illuminated sensor to a full 12 megapixels of resolution. <div style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/12/25/nikon-patent-app-details-lens-with-manual-and-electronic-zoom-v/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget"><img hspace="4" border="0" vspace="4" alt="" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/12/nikon-zoom-patent-application.jpg" /></a></div>
We reckoned it was only a matter of time, and sure enough, it seems as if the engineers at Nikon are already one step ahead of everyone else. For those who've attempted to <a href="http://hd.engadget.com/2008/09/08/nikons-d90-the-dslr-for-hd-junkies/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">shoot video</a> on a conventional DSLR, they've most likely ran into one problem in particular: zooming. It's fairly difficult to manhandle a <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/06/21/shooting-around-with-the-nikon-d3s-the-field-review/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">D3S</a> under ideal circumstances, but try holding it steady while also keeping a firm grip on the zoom <i>and</i> focus dials. Without a camera rig, it's essentially impossible to get anything more than novice captures, complete with oodles of blur and more <a href="http://hd.engadget.com/2008/10/25/nikon-d90s-720p-movie-mode-gets-crituqued/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">Jellyvision</a> than you could shake a butter knife at. If all goes well, the next Nikkor lens you purchase may make the aforementioned tragedy just another comical part of history. Nikon is apparently dreaming of a single lens that can be zoomed both manually (for still photography) and electronically (for video), and better still, there's nothing stopping this from also supporting the outfit's sure-to-be-forthcoming <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/09/04/nikon-wants-to-create-a-new-market-with-its-new-concept/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">EVIL line</a> of mirrorless cameras. Then again, it's not like a patent application dictates a near-term release, but if we all cross our fingers in unison and pledge allegiance the Big N, who knows what kind of magic could happen.

Is <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/Sigma/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">Sigma</a> announcing an <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/EVIL/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">EVIL</a> (as in Electronic Viewfinder Interchangeable Lens, not malevolent) camera today? <em>Digital Photography Review</em> forum member Ryan Shine seems to think so, and says it's "here" in China. As if to prove his point, we've got a trio of pictures for the mirrorless shooter. Hey, don't say we didn't warn you -- and if it doesn't become official soon, at least there's pictures to enjoy.<br />
<br />
<strong>Update:</strong> We tracked down the <a href="http://translate.google.com/translate?js=n&amp;prev=_t&amp;hl=en&amp;ie=UTF-8&amp;layout=2&amp;eotf=1&amp;sl=zh-CN&amp;tl=en&amp;u=http%3A%2F%2Fforum.xitek.com%2Fshowthread.php%3Fthreadid%3D813398">source</a> and turns out this is just an enthusiast's modded Sigma DP1, which has been given a Leica M mount. Quite a daring mod, if we may say so.

Is the future of photography painted in Kubrick white? It is if you believe Nikon and Canon. We've seen the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/07/06/canon-wonder-camera-concept-promises-single-lens-perfection-vid/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">latter's concept</a> in <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/09/02/canons-wonder-camera-and-other-future-concepts-that-tease-us-f/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">much more detail</a>, and now a handful of pics from the Nikon Sapporo Showroom have surfaced, showcasing at least one similarly unpigmented design. The other two models, snapped and found via <em>burner-images</em>, look like more run-of-the-mill DSLRs, but the one that's causing a stir online is the all-white model that originated from <em>DCHome</em> forums. The original poster chimes in to say it might be the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/09/04/nikon-wants-to-create-a-new-market-with-its-new-concept/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">EVIL camera</a>, but we're not exactly convinced. For starters, the body doesn't look much smaller or different than the rest of its lineup -- not exactly what we'd expect for a "new market" product, as the company reportedly wants its mirrorless shooter to be. Additionally, as noted by a number of <em>Nikon Rumors</em> commenters, that apparently 18-55mm lens implies it's rocking an APS-C sensor. Of course, if we saw the other side, we could see whether or not it had a viewfinder, which does narrow down the possibilities. So in conclusion, we still don't know what it is, or if we ever will with any certainty, but we're making an educated guess as to what it <em>isn't</em>. Got that? Good.

We <em>thought</em> Nikon just wanted to <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/07/08/nikon-planning-new-concept-mirrorless-interchangeable-lens-cam/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">join</a> the burgeoning ranks of <a href="http://www.engadget.com/all/mirrorless?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">mirrorless interchangeable lens</a> shooters that bridge the gap between full-fledged DSLR and pocket-friendly compact cameras. But oh no, as company president Makoto Kimura puts it, Nikon wants to create a whole "new market" with its next big idea. Noting that his lab lackeys have tested all sorts of eccentric possibilities, such as a head-mounted display, Kimura says it's time for digital cameras to move with the times and Nikon will be ready to take up its usual leadership position. When might that be, you ask? Well, in classic bigwig style, he keeps the roadmap tucked firmly inside the breast pocket of his smoking jacket, but at least we know that Nikon won't be sitting on the sidelines and letting whippersnappers like <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/06/16/sony-nex-5-preview/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">Sony's NEX-5</a> steal customers away.

Olympus has just made a pair of new, limited edition kit options <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/08/30/new-e-p2-kit-and-e-5-dslr-rumored-olympus-surprise-parties-ruin/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">official</a> for its <a href="http://www.engadget.com/all/e-p2?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">PEN E-P2</a> shooter. Both include an M. Zuiko Digital 17mm F2.8 prime lens and an all-black paintjob, with the choice for the buyer being between a Special Black (or just black, if you're talking to humans) EVF Edition that brings you the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/olympus-e-p2-official/#2423180?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">V-F2</a> viewfinder, and an equally noir Flash Edition, which will enrich your life with the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/olympus-e-p2-official/#2423185?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">FL-14</a> external flash. Prices are &euro;1,079 ($1,371) and &euro;1,049 ($1,332), respectively, and launch is scheduled for October of this year. As the old saying goes, you don't have to be crazy to buy these, but it'd help.

Saturday night, from the depths of his subterranean cave, teen idol Justin Bieber took revenge on someone (who seems to be a minor so we're not going to bother naming names) who had allegedly hacked the Twitter account of the star's childhood friend. How best to get back at someone who has wronged you in your world 2.0? By Tweeting their phone number to your four and a half million followers, of course! We've seen this nerd <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/07/27/justin-bieber-attempts-daring-segway-escape-from-mob-of-screamin/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">fleeing throngs of girls on a Segway</a> in the past -- which made him seem rather cool in our eyes -- but now we must ask ourselves... is Justin Bieber as innocent as he appears to be? Either way, nice burn.

(That sort of sounds like the Canon G11 competitor with DSLR tech Nikon was <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/03/03/nikon-says-its-developing-a-competitor-to-canons-g11/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">hinting at earlier this year</a>, but we can't tell if they're the same.) Kimura says that Nikon is "intensively" focused on developing the new mirrorless product as part of a plan to increase SLR revenue -- Nikon's goal is to increase interchangeable lens camera sales a whopping 80 percent over the next three years. That's ambitious, but if Nikon can produce a tiny shooter with some of the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/06/21/shooting-around-with-the-nikon-d3s-the-field-review/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">D3S</a>'s low-light capabilities and the ability to accept even a subset of its modern family of lenses, we don't think it's out of the question. We'll see what happens.

<div style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/06/02/samsung-nx5-becomes-official-little-brother-to-nx10-hybrid-dslr/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget"><img hspace="4" border="0" vspace="4" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/06/10x0602on245samsone.jpg" alt="" /></a></div>
So you like Samsung's <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/01/03/samsung-nx10-made-official-aps-c-sensor-and-amoled-screen-cra/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">NX10</a> pseudo-DSLR camera, but can't quite reach up to its price point? Good old uncle Sammy is looking out for you with this here budget-friendly model -- the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/03/26/accessory-listings-hint-at-samsung-nx5-digital-camera/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">NX5</a> replaces the AMOLED display with a standard 3-inch LCD, but looks to be keeping all the other important features. That means you're still getting an electronic viewfinder and that 14.6 megapixel APS-C CMOS sensor -- which collected plenty of <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/04/08/samsung-nx10-reviewed-a-worthy-alternative-to-micro-four-thirds/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">review approbation</a> -- inside a compact body, plus the same selection of NX-mount lenses to choose from. A &euro;699 ($855) launch price might not seem like a great deal, but we've found its elder brother retailing for $619 on Amazon.de together with a kit lens, so expect prices to tumble downwards shortly after this shooter's release in late June.

You know what's black and yellow all over, fits in the average mailbox and gets the imaginations of camera junkies running wild? These cards, that's what. Over the past few days, mysterious cards have begun to arrive in the hands of Nikon users, and while the company's name is nowhere to be found, the colors and hints are starting to build a case for something new. It seems a countdown from 8 has begun, with the first card stating "I am..." and the second "I am fun...." In case you weren't aware, Nikon has yet to dabble in the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/MicroFourThirds/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">Micro Four Thirds</a> world (or even hint at a competitor like Samsung's <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/03/02/samsungs-hybrid-nx-series-camera-point-and-shoot-with-dslr-lik/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">NX range</a>), but whispers of a so-called EVIL lineup have been building steam. Nikon aficionados have pointed out that the countdown will end just prior to a UK press meeting on March 8th, which could very well mean that an all-new compact is just days away from being properly revealed. Or it could be <em>nothing at all</em>. Keep your expectations low -- it's better to be pleasantly surprised than deflated and alone, right?
