An enterprising Star Wars fan is giving other devotees of Lucas' universe a new hope; a new, low-resolution, super-blocky hope. "Paradise Decay" is recreating Star Wars: Episode IV inside of Minecraft, using only custom textures and art - no special mods. The project, which has been in development for more than three years, is nearing completion. The new "Breath" trailer, seen above, will "probably" be the last preview we get before Paradise Decay releases the full movie in 2015, according to the YouTube description. Even though the fan film will be free to view when it's *Emperor Palpatine voice* complete ... you'll still need a DVD version of the original movie for sound. Then, young Padawan, you will be ready. Street Fighter: Assassin's Fist, the live-action web series adaptation of Capcom's Street Fighter games, will be punching up your computer, tablet, smartphone and anything else that can connect to Machinima's YouTube channel next month. Two new trailers for the series popped up this month, highlighting fighters Ken and Ryu. If you're unfamiliar with Assassin's Fist, this is the fan-made, Kickstarter-funded follow-up to the viral Street Fighter: Legacy short that made its way around the Internet four years ago. The series, while not produced by Capcom, has been given the company's official blessing. We believe the conversation may have gone like this: "Hey, can we make a live-action series based on Street Fighter?" "SUUURE-YOU-CAN!" [Image: Machinima]

The year is 2014. It is a time of great costumes and super cool fight scenes. It is the time of a Deus Ex: Human Revolution fan film from Dcode Films, directed by Moe Charif. And regardless of whether you did or didn't ask for this, the end result is pretty stunning. Take a look and see for yourself how far its come since the December 2012 teaser. As for those who haven't yet played Eidos Montreal's entry to the Deus Ex series, don't worry: this isn't a straight-up translation of the game's plot, so even though it features characters from Human Revolution, there are no spoilers here. Once you're done watching Adam "These Sunglasses Augmentations Were Totally Necessary" Jensen, you can also punch your way through the film's fourth wall and check out a behind-the-scenes peek at some of the sets, stunts and CG used in the film. Colin and Connor McGuire, the brotherly duo behind the superb Portal: Survive! fan film are back in the Aperture Science testing labs, cooking up a new Portal-based live-action webseries. Revolutionary advances in the field of science don't come cheap though, so the brothers are asking for $15,000 on Kickstarter to get the series, dubbed Secrets of Aperture, off the ground. Worried the fundraising efforts will get shut down quicker than an Aperture scientist's lungs when filled with deadly neurotoxin? Don't be - Valve's video policy encourages such use of their properties. Secrets of Aperture will have five episodes at minimum funding, though stretch goals add more content. At $20,000, the McGuire brothers will add a series of vlogs, hosted by characters from the Portal universe. Every additional $15,000 beyond that will result in another episode in the series, up to a total of eight. The series will be free to view when it goes live, but backers get access to special behind-the-scenes featurettes and a DVD version that will only be available via the Kickstarter campaign. Serious Portal enthusiasts can chip in $3,000 to get a full-size replica portal gun or companion cube prop. No cake though. You know why. [Image: Colin and Connor McGuire]

Poor Link - guy can't even pick up a casket full of forbidden and creepy masks without getting into trouble, as clearly demonstrated by this fan film by Mars Rising. When evil wizard Agahnim threatens the Happy Mask Salesman, it's the green-clad hero of Hyrule's sworn duty to step in and save the day - complete with slow-mo action and ... hey! Listen! Did Link just talk? Blasphemy! Kidding, of course. Some may even like hearing Link be given a voice. Either way, the creators behind the film say that if the video gets 1 million views, they'll continue the story with a Link vs. Dark Link battle. [Thanks, Tom!]

Eddie Lebron, best known for his full-length Mega Man fan film, has released a new short film representing a more realistic take on Sonic the Hedgehog. Lebron brought back Sonic cartoon voice actor (and, yes, Urkel) Jaleel White for the role, and combines a CG Sonic with live actors, including a live-action Dr. Robotnik who is even more evil than usual. There is a torture scene. The 18-minute movie is meant as "a spec film, with the primary purpose being to show how a Sonic the Hedgehog film, in a live action environment, can be executed." We think it has a very interesting take on Sonic's quills.

Deus Ex: Human Revolution had some impressive trailers, and this live-action teaser for a short flick by DCode Films isn't bad either. The Miami-based production company boasts a portfolio of big name clients, so that experience should culminate in a production as eye-catching as its teaser.[Thanks, Saeddine]

Fallout: Lanius is a large-scale, in-depth fan homage to Fallout: New Vegas, with real-life actors playing out the origin story of Legate Lanius. The creators, a team from Australia, want to capture a true cinematic experience, something "more than just another Fallout fan film." The video above is our first glimpse at that vision. The Lanius team snagged New Vegas voice actor Mitch Lewis for the film, and they're using input from Obsidian's Chris Avellone and John Gonzalez. The Indiegogo drive for Lanius has nine days remaining and the project has already received more than the $10,000 it requested. With that cash, Lanius should be able to provide some friendly competition to Wayside Creations' Fallout: Nuka Break series. If anything, check out those soaring landscape shots in the teaser video. The apocalypse sure is gorgeous.

Tolkien fans are many, but few have the opportunity to see their creative works honoring Lord of the Rings presented before large audiences. One lucky group of fans will have just that. The fan film The Fellows Hip will be screened at GenCon in Indianapolis this year. Fans can catch the movie on Friday, August 17th, at 1:30 p.m. EDT in the Westin Grand Ballroom IV and Saturday, August 18th, at 9:30 p.m. EDT in the Westin Grand Ballroom V. Folks who miss these showings can also watch the film at DragonCon or even this weekend's Return of the Ring celebration in the UK. In the film, a fellowship of four gamers embarks on their own epic journey to fight injustice, right a wrong, expose evil, and possibly even conquer at a Lord of the Rings Online gaming competition. While noting that the film does include parody, the creators emphasize that the film is an homage to Tolkien's great works, one that combines their love of LOTR with their love of MMO gaming. Watch as a black rider makes the heroes dive for cover in the teaser trailer after the cut. And to learn more about the film, be sure to read Massively's interview with the creators.

After Wayside Creations launched its Fallout fan film in January 2011, it filmed one (excellent) season of Fallout: Nuka Break in a webseries with $30,000 of funding. Now Wayside wants to start filming the second season, bigger, badder and better than the first, with $60,000 in funding. It doesn't have that money, but it's betting some of its fans do.Fallout: Nuka Break has a Kickstarter running to raise the full $60,000 for its second season. Watch the video above for a brief rundown of what Nuka Break does and who will be involved, including Hellboy and Pan's Labyrinth actor Doug Jones, who has a scotch-based cameo in the Kickstarter video itself. Nuka Break has 59 days left to raise its money, but if you're still not convinced check out Wayside's previous episodes, beginning right here.

Our modern zombie-centric television dramas have been decidedly not filled with zombies recently and the gore of 28 Days Later, Dawn of the Dead, 28 Weeks Later and Shaun of the Dead is as tired as this cat -- but there is hope on the horizon. The above teaser for a fanmade Left 4 Dead film has some serious potential, and it was filmed in just one weekend. Produced by Northern Five Entertainment and Sponsored by Airsoft GI, the full film will be released "soon," and personally, we can't wait. You know who can wait? Bill. Bill can stay in one place and wait with the best of them. Cheers, buddy.

Buzz has been increasing about an intriguing independent film that looks to blend Tolkien love, geek pride, and Lord of the Rings Online fandom into one epic adventure. Called The Fellows Hip: Rise of the Gamers, this movie is about a group of friends who undertake a journey to a convention in order to participate in a LotRO gaming competition (and stick it to some bullies while they're at it). Many blogs, such as LOTRO Reporter and A Casual Stroll to Mordor, have promoted this up-and-coming film, and after seeing the trailer, we too became fascinated with what could be a fun movie that puts MMO gaming front and center. One may not simply walk into Mordor, but with the right connections, one could phone the folks up there. We got on the line with three crew members for The Fellows Hip -- Ron Newcomb (producer, director and writer), Scott Mathais (producer and writer), and Shane McClung (producer) -- to see just what type of lovable insanity would cause a group of people to throw together such a movie.

Game-related fan films are a dime a dozen at this point, and if there's an MMO out there, chances are someone's made a movie out of its in-game footage and uploaded it to the web. The Fellows Hip: Rise of the Gamers is a horse of a different color, though, as most of its footage is live-action and it focuses on Turbine's Lord of the Rings Online as a plot element instead of the narrative canvas proper. A Casual Stroll to Mordor is currently featuring a new trailer for the film, which tells the tale of a geeky guy who finds meaning (and apparently, a girl) while questing his way toward the top prize in a LotRO gaming competition. Check out the trailer after the cut, and read more about the flick at The Fellows Hip website.
