It's not just the developers at Cryptic who are throwing their effort behind the third anniversary of Star Trek Online. Fan and player STOLilyGarrett put together the latest in her series of STO anniversary videos and it's a doozy. Over the span of two minutes, this video sweeps and swooshes past many of the incredible landmarks, starships, and interstellar vistas that came into being during the past year. It's a really neat fan effort that's received the thumbs-up from the Cryptic team, so we wanted to pass it along to you. You can check it out after the jump.

This fan-made Assassin's Creed video has it all, baby. You want some dubstep? Check. You want some cool dudes jumpin' off of stuff? Double check. You want a complicated, super long epic of deceit and mystery? Oh, well then how about some guys getting stabbed a whole bunch? That's what I thought.

  • Leeroy Jenkins gets his own movie

Are you tired of the seven-year-old Leeroy Jenkins meme? You better not be because it is never going to die. Not ever. You know why? Because now he's a major motion picture. Well, a minor motion picture. Director Finn O'Hara shot a short three-minute indie film called (of course) Leeroy Jenkins. The difference between the short film and the infamous YouTube World of Warcraft video is that Jenkins and his team have been transformed from a dungeon raiding party to a gang of bank robbers. The translation works surprisingly well, with the bulk of the film dedicated to the leadup to Jenkins' charge. The film was created for the Worldwide Short Film Festival, and you can watch it after the jump.

  • PlanetSide 2 fan trailer delivers fan service

Sony Online Entertainment hasn't shown much in the way of PlanetSide 2 video footage aside from the GDC demo and a recent alpha clip, so anxious fans are turning to their own devices in order to get their three-faction open-world sci-fi fix. A user named Nax has cut together a two-minute clip and posted it on both YouTube and the PlanetSide Universe forums. The short makes good use of the alpha video as well as some pre-existing teaser trailer footage in order to showcase PS2's frenetic action and large environments. We also get a stirring soundtrack compliments of Thomas Bergersen (one half of the prolific trailer-music duo known as Two Steps from Hell). Check out the goods after the break.

With the fifth anniversary of Lord of the Rings Online a little over a week away, Turbine has sprung a most excellent contest to reward the hardiest Hobbits and most fanatical Fellowshippers in the community. By creating and submitting a fan video, one lucky player will win a trip to visit Turbine's studio in Boston, Massachusetts. Entering the Who is the Biggest LotRO Fan Contest is pretty simple. To do so, you'll need to head over to the contest site, download a package of assets, and then create your own fan video celebrating the game's big milestone. Each player can submit one entry, due by May 4th, which is then judged on creativity, composition, and appropriateness to theme. While there will be 500 TP daily winners in the contest, the big grand prize is a trip for two to Boston, a three-day stay in a hotel, a tour of Turbine's offices, a lifetime membership to LotRO, and 1,000 TP.

A world as beautiful as the one ArenaNet is making with Guild Wars 2 just begs to be explored. Since fans can't quite do that yet, they're doing the next best thing and making trailers to show the world how ready they are to hop back into the world of Tyria. The first has been around for a few months but deserves some real love. It was put together by Albert, an administrator at the Spanish fan site Guild Wars 2 Online, using official Guild Wars 2 footage and sound clips from ArenaNet's blog posts on writing and voicing the races of Guild Wars 2. The second fan trailer from wetwillyhip has been floating about for a couple of days and does a fantastic job of splicing together in-game footage and ArenaNet's more stylized cinematics. Jump past the cut to check out these fan-made videos!

After watching this short, we're not only convinced that a live-action Team Fortress 2 can be done well, we also adamantly want it to happen. Like, bad. Hey AMC, you're taking a lot of risks these days, how 'bout adding another original series to the pile? [Thanks, Micah!]

  • Sonic and Knuckles 3D fan video is all sorts of rad

Before you get your hopes too high, we feel morally compelled to inform you that the video posted after the jump, a purported gameplay clip from Sonic and Knuckles 3D, isn't culled from any upcoming licensed game. In fact, it's not even from a fan-made game -- rather, it's just a pre-rendered video from a skilled 3D artist and YouTube user by the username of BlobVanDam. Spin-dash past the jump if you want to see the Mushroom Hill Zone Act 2 that never-will-be. Actually, that's a pretty defeatist attitude to adopt. We're sure that someday, in the fullness of time, this delightful vision will be realized. Until then: Sonic 4!

  • FileFront suspending operations indefinitely

Our old friend Moo Money wrote in a little earlier today (along with a few readers) to alert us of some news that has the potential to hit the WoW community pretty hard: FileFront is closing its doors, citing poor economic conditions as the reason why they're indefinitely suspending the site's operations. As of March 30th, 2009, FileFront will be gone.Countless WoW videos are currently hosted on FileFront, including some of our favorite machinima, many that we've highlighted on the site previously. It's not just machinima, either. I know many of my friends that arena heavily find and host their videos on FileFront, and my raid has linked to strategy videos that were hosted there, too.

It's tough to wait on that special game, and even worse when it was initially supposed to have been released already. We're sympathetic about delays; we understand that sometimes, it takes a little extra effort to deliver the best of all possible experiences. That doesn't make the waiting any easier, though. Video-creation-inclined Smash Bros. fans, however, have been busy over the past year, trying to make the time pass a little more quickly (or at least, less painfully) with video treatments, and we've got the latest in this week's spotlight.

We know almost nothing about Star Trek Online's ground combat. We haven't even seen any screenshots of it yet. However, we do know that Star Trek fans are a passionate bunch. In this case, they were passionate enough to make their very own concept video of what Star Trek Online's ground combat might look like. It's pretty amusing, and if you're a fan it will probably make you even more anxious to finally learn what the combat really looks like. It also ought to make you a bit nostalgic about how awesome Star Trek: Deep Space Nine's "The Way of the Warrior" episode was. Hardcore Trekkies (or Trekkers) will surely get a kick out of the fact that the combat text for Klingons is actually in Klingon. To the zealous fan(s) who made this video, we say "qapla'!"

The past few stories about Loco Roco have been a bit too depressing. Let's ignore the low sales and remember the good things about the game: like happy happy graphics and even happier music. That's what this fun, candy-coated Loco Roco fan video does. It showcases some images from the game and puts it to the absolutely fantastic music of the game. If this doesn't make you happy, then you've lost your childhood somewhere along the way.The bottom video of this special edition Video Sandwich shows you how to get every single secret in the downloadable demo. Pretty helpful for those of you that want to earn your Loco Roco Rewards the right way. It's intersting to see the things that you may have missed. (I know without this video, I would've never found that final fruit that I've been missing!)
