One of the great enjoyment of watching sporting events is to be able to share the moment with friends and other fans of your favorite teams. Now with Fanatic, a free universal app, you can do just that even more easily than before. Fanatic is a sport social media app that hooks you up with places to go watch the games. If you are a Patriots fan for example you would be much happier in a place that caters to New England fans rather than in a bar full of Jets supporters. Now you can find out where the best places are to watch your favorite teams. Once you set up your profile which is just your name and location, you can start using the app. Next you select all your favorite teams from the NFL, MLB, NBA, NHL, NCAA basketball and football, MLS, and all the major European soccer leagues. Once Fanatic has that information users receive a list of upcoming games featuring all their favorite teams. If you tap your favorite team you get a list of the top places to watch that team's game across the entire U.S. Users can also select an upcoming game with one of their favorites and the app offers up the best place locally to watch the game. If there isn't a fan favorite watering hole in your town, the app provides a list of the best local spots to watch the game. Users can also add their favorite places to the list. Fanatic features a search function that users can find specific bars or restaurants. The app also brings up a list of local places. Tapping on the name brings up a page with the bars address, where it ranks among all the places in that community and a list of what team's fans congregate there on game days. On the search page besides the list of best overall venues to watch games users will can select maps. The map will bring up all the spots on the list so you can more easily locate them. It also uses logos of teams to indicate the top group of fans that go to that spot. This is also where you can select another city and find places to watch in case you are on a vacation or out of town working. Unlike other sports apps you won't use this app to track all the news, scores, and statistics about a specific sport or your favorite team. Fanatic does offer a news feed consisting of material culled from other sites including Twitter but it won't compete with the major sports news outlets. However, those sites can't compete with Fanatic on putting you in a comfortable spot to watch your favorite team and share the moment with other fans.

  • Video: DIY Wolverine could totally take the Star Wars Kid

Maybe it's just us, timid bloggers sent recoiling at the mere touch of particles from what you call the Sun. But we're finding it hard to watch the video of this Wolverine fan without feeling a bit awkward, dangerously awkward. No doubt, the craftsmanship of his Wolverine claws is superb; a flex of the bicep releases the claws with the satisfying metallic shink of Adamantium blades locking into battle mode. Nevertheless, we hope this guy won't be sitting anywhere near us in the theater this weekend. See what we mean after the break.Update: Er, the video has been pulled. Perhaps the cardboard finally won?

  • All the World's a Stage: The Roleplaying Spectrum

Today David returns to All the World's a Stage, still taking a break from his series of roleplaying lore guides for World of Warcraft. Instead, he shares a few thoughts especially for people who may roleplay all the time without realizing it. There are lots of people playing World of Warcraft out there, and if you gave a survey to each one of them, asking, "are you a roleplayer?" most of them would probably say "no." But if you actually listened to them, or engaged with them in conversation about it, you might learn a lot of things that surveys usually miss. Many people who say they are not roleplayers actually have an imagination of their character's backstory, personality, or even just individual style. They may not know how to act out the character, and they may not have friends they feel they can act out with, yet at the same time, they do have a sense of their character as their own little creative exploration. The distinction between roleplayers and non-roleplayers is not as clear as people seem to think. In fact, there's a whole spectrum of different kinds of players between those who say they roleplay and those who say they don't -- and most people probably find themselves somewhere in the middle.

  • Poll: Do you prefer your sports live or in HD?

Considering that we've seen not one, but two surveys in recent months suggesting that individuals tend to prefer watching sports in the comfort of their own HDTV-equipped homes versus showing up in person, we're quite curious to see how this crowd feels. The question's pretty simple: given the choice, would you show up (face paint and all) on gameday, or would you kick back with a fresh bag of Cheetos and utilize that HD service you've spent your hard earned cash on? We know this may vary by sport / team, but we're lumping all sports together to get a general consensus. Feel free to give your input below, and sound off on your choice in comments. P.S. - For whatever it's worth, this particular editor would take a seat in Carter-Finley any day over an HD broadcast.%Poll-5767%
