Crowdfunded EVE Online documentary A Tale of Internet Spaceships is now viewable on YouTube. The 56-minute film was shot during Fanfest 2013 and it seeks to both introduce EVE to the uninitiated and to illuminate the period around the game's Incarna expansion (as well as the player revolts that followed).

Icelandic development studio CCP showed off a spaceship dogfighting demo, developed with Oculus Rift in mind and on face, during its Fanfest keynote livestream today. CCP didn't confirm whether or not this concept was indicative of an upcoming game, or whether it would tie into Eve Online, much like its FPS, Dust 514.

EVE Fanfest is next week and the faithful are preparing to descend upon Reykjavik, Iceland, for the three-day convention. If you're one of the travelers who are heading there or are just looking to follow along on livestream, CCP has released the full program with the event's schedule. Fanfest will have three keynotes about the past, present, and future of CCP's titles, respectively. There will also be several panels, including one discussing EVE Online's inclusion in the New York Museum of Modern Art. EVE Online also released a new dev blog talking about the team's war on unauthorized client modification and violations of the EULA. Apparently CCP has taken additional steps to beef up detection and prevention, and the team wanted to be clear with players as to what is and is not allowed.

There's just over a week to go until EVE Online's massive tenth anniversary Fanfest, and you'll be pleased to hear that Massively will be there this year to cover the action! CCP is aiming to make this the biggest Fanfest yet, promising huge reveals and announcements about EVE's summer Odyssey expansion and beyond. We can also expect to hear some big news about upcoming console MMOFPS DUST 514, and fans of Vampire: The Masquerade will undoubtedly get to see some of the year's progress toward making the World of Darkness MMO a reality. Tickets to this year's Fanfest sold out in record time, so many players who really wanted to be there for EVE's tenth anniversary celebration weren't able to secure a spot. CCP is running its usual livestream of the main talks for those not in attendance, but only certain parts of the event are being streamed. Here at Massively, we plan to give you an inside look at Fanfest with ongoing news coverage from April 25th to April 27th and in-depth opinion pieces on what each announcement means for players. In this week's short and sweet EVE Evolved, I lay out Massively's plans for in-depth coverage of EVE Fanfest 2013 and ask what you'd like to see reported on.

When EVE Online's next expansion lands in summer 2013, CCP anticipates a surge of confusion and complaints over the "far-reaching consequences" that will occur when the studio reworks its ship requirements. To head off any possible negative feelings, the studio released an in-depth look as to how it's going to be changing the progression of ship captaincy and what will be required to jump into the next tier of spaceships. In addition to this expansion preview, CCP posted another article concerning the improvement to corporation recruitment tools that will come even sooner with Retribution 1.1. The post goes over these improvements, such as an automatic welcome mail to new recruits, and invites players to test out the changes right now. Finally, when Fanfest 2013 arrives in April, the event will be kicked off with the Icelandic Symphony Orchestra performing the EVE Online soundtrack. CCP posted a link for those who may be interested in obtaining tickets. Update: The studio also confirmed that the convention will include an "unorthodox fight" with MMA fighter Gunnar Neslon and a series of speakers discussing real-world space technology, such as space elevators.

It's called A Tale of Internet Spaceships, and it's a movie that hasn't happened yet. A group of Swedish EVE Online players are turning to crowdsourcing in order to fund a documentary of their favorite online game, asking for a total of $6,000 through Indiegogo from fans. If funded, A Tale of Internet Spaceships will be filmed at this spring's EVE Fanfest in Iceland. Following the convention, the "full-length" documentary will be pieced together and finished by later this year. "We'll be bringing our cameras to document the community in action: to capture the spirit of the game and to explore the sometimes complicated relationship between said community and CCP Games themselves," said project manager Petter Mårtensson. "We hope to find the answer to why the players love and live EVE Online in the way they do."
