The Daily Grind: Would you buy an e-zine dedicated to your favorite MMO?
Last week's closure of EON, the quarterly print magazine dedicated to EVE Online, barely registered on the MMO news meter. CCP's MMO boasts somewhere in the neighborhood of 500,000 subscribers, but apparently few of them were willing to part with enough meatspace money or ISK to keep EON afloat. I'll miss the mag, even though I've never been anything other than a casual EVE player. The high-quality layout and the absence of real-world advertising made for a terrific reading experience, as did some of the fanfic, the interviews, and the full-page corporation spreads. I'd love to see an EON-like publication for several different MMOs, in fact, but I'd prefer it on my tablet at this point. What about you, Massively readers? New City of Heroes fanzine launched
City of Heroes community relations manager Alex 'Lighthouse' Von Minden doubles up as the editor for a new CoX Fanzine. The current issue is technically Issue 1, the former 'Issue 0' having been released as a preview issue, reproducing material from the Fan Submissions section of the Top Cow comic. Issue 1 features a spectacular cover by Douglas Shuler, with Back Alley Brawler and Ghost Widow apparently on the same side for once. The background of Cimeroran soldiers can only mean they're among the many Heroes and Villains who've chosen to set aside their differences for long enough to help Imperious make the future safe. Ghost Widow's not looking too shabby for someone who's been dead at least three years, as Back Alley Brawler (the developer) would have liked to affirm.
CoH Fanzine looking for submissions
Hear ye hear ye... calling all writers and artists, the City of Heroes Fanzine is looking for a few good submissions to include in their next issue! So you live in the city that never sleeps. No, not Las Vegas. Or New York. You "live" in the City of Heroes. You've been patrolling the mean streets of Paragon City for a few years now and you think you've got what it takes. You're big, bad and altogether mean. But can you write or draw? If so... head on over to the Fan Submissions web page, read up on all the legal mumbo jumbo about how the stuff you submit no longer belongs to you once it's submitted... yadda yadda yadda. If you're game (pardon the pun)... get crackin' and let the Fanzine showcase your dazzling work. The deadline for submissions is February 11th, so get your pen stroke on!
New City of Heroes Fanzine released
Did you enjoy the stories and artwork that ran in the Top Cow line of the City of Heroes comics? Ever regret not sending in your work? Well, here's your chance, because Issue #0 of the new City of Heroes Fanzine was released today.For those of you who may be concerned that this publication is replacing the City Scoop, fear not: the fanzine was never intended to replace the scoop, but to add to the lore and backstory of the CoX universe. Then, too, the fanzine will only be coming out quarterly, so you'll have to rely on the Scoop ... and Massively, of course ... for timely news about the Rogue Isles and Paragon City.So pull out your pens and digital tablets, and share your stories and visions of the digital world all of our alts inhabit. We're looking forward to seeing what you have to offer. And don't forget, if you have any thoughts about the fanzine, issues you'd like to raise, or concerns you feel need to be addressed, bring them up in the City of Heroes official forum.
