  • Free character migrations for select realms

As of yesterday afternoon and lasting through January 28th at 2:00 PM PST, a number of free realm transfers have opened up in the US in an attempt to repair some harsh population imbalance. Bornakk does warn, however, that if they fulfill the transfer quota before January 28th, they will end transfers early so they don't end up in the exact same situation on opposite ends. If any of the below transfer offers suit your fancy, get it done before it's too late. What's interesting is that in a few of these instances, they're only extended the offer to Horde players. These servers include Illidan, Mal'Ganis, and Warsong. Considering Mal'Ganis is home to the infamous Goon Squad, this isn't the most surprising thing in the world. Interesting, yes. Surprising? Not in the slightest. For further information on the available transfers, hit the forum thread. You can also check out the source and destination realms behind the cut below.

  • All the World's a Stage: So you want to be a Rogue

This installment of All the World's a Stage is the twenty-second in a series of roleplaying guides in which we find out all the background information you need to roleplay a particular race or class well, without embarrassing yourself. Rogues are the masters of shadows. While two other classes actually use the shadow as a source of magical power, it's the Rogue who can potentially live and breathe the shadow, and make it an essential part of who he or she is what he or she does."The Shadow" as a concept, could mean a number of different things to your character, however -- anything from literal shadows that he or she might disappear in, to underground networks, knowledge of the street, and secret societies few others know about. An advanced rogue might even possess an intimate relationship with "the Shadow" as a mystical force he can wrap around himself in as a kind of cloak, or step through the shadows to appear behind his enemy in a flash. In fact, your rogue may not even use the term "shadow" at all, and may simply think of himself as a simple bandit, thief, pickpocket, detective, scout, special agent, assassin, bank-robber, or even a venture capitalist. In fact, the Rogue class is suitable as a broad catch-all class for a number of seemingly unrelated character types, from a court jester to a penniless tourist.

  • Breakfast Topic: Does the levity mess up the lore?

Warning: Wrath spoilers ahead! Blizzard's pretty good at Lore when they want to be, with the whole 2.4 storyline, the Battle of Ahn'Qiraj, and many epic storylines promising to come out of Northrend. At the same time, they also have their own offbeat brand of humor that is never far gone from their design philosophy, and it shows up in their stories too. Sometimes it serves them well and adds a bit of levity, but other time, it seems to take on a life of its own, a life that can strangle what could have otherwise been something compelling and interesting. Zul'Aman is perhaps the most pertinent example. What could have been the last attempt of the Farstriders to shut down the troll menace threatening their people, what could have been a revival of the Troll killing tradition of the Arathi, or an examination of the High Elves who stayed loyal to the Alliance but still hate the Amani, instead turned into a cheap redneck treasure hunt. It killed much of the allure of the zone and turned what could have been a epic struggle against a former hero of the Horde into a run of the mill bunny bashing session.

Transfers from some impacted North American servers to four brand-new realms began at noon PST today, and will run "until 11PM, Friday, January 19 or until such a time that the destination realms have received adequate transfers to them." From Eyonix: In the event that a realm meets our transfer goals before the scheduled end date the transfers to that realm will be disabled. We highly recommend that if you are planning to transfer that you do so at your earliest convenience. You can begin a free character move here: https://www.worldofwarcraft.com/account/character-move.html Destination: - Arathor, PvE - Pacific Skywall Silvermoon Moonrunner Suramar Bronzebeard Destination: - Trollbane, PvE - Eastern Eldre'Thalas Zul'jin Elune Khadgar Doomhammer Destination: - Madoran, PvE - Central Malygos Aggramar Khaz Modan Hellscream Alexstrasza Destination: - Farstriders, RP - Central Earthen Ring Kirin Tor Cenarion Circle Blackwater Raiders I do have a character on Doomhammer, so I might transfer just for the hell of it. New servers are fun. However, one sour note for the transfer bonanza: Cloudbeard of the guild Tide writes that a lot of people, including most of his guild, are stuck in the free transfer queue, and Blizz hasn't said much beyond that they're "working on a resolution." So maybe look out; but on the other hand, Eyonix urges you to transfer ASAP. What have your transfer experiences been like?
