The Fast & Furious franchise is about to roar onto PC, PS4 and Xbox One. Bandai Namco and Project Cars developer Slightly Mad Studios are working on Fast & Furious Crossroads, which will drop this May. That's the same month the next installment in the massive movie franchise, Fast & Furious 9, hits theaters.

Netflix gives 'Fast and Furious' the cartoon treatment it deserves

With eight feature releases and a couple of short films, the Fast and Furious franchise has worked its way into the public consciousness. When you think about it, though, while the films are rated PG-13, the core concept is pretty kid-friendly: fast cars and one-liners abound. It doesn't hurt that it's also the sixth-highest-grossing film series of all time. That's probably why Netflix and DreamWorks are bringing the concept to the small screen as an animated series.

  • 'Forza' wants to put you in 'Fast & Furious' for free

Most attempts at turning the Fast & Furious movies into video games haven't exactly set the world on fire, but here's one that might be worth playing. Microsoft, Turn 10 and Universal have teamed up for Forza Horizon 2 Presents Fast & Furious, a slightly awkwardly-titled Horizon 2 expansion that has you scoring cars for the Furious crew's missions. It should have the same open-world racing that you saw in the latest Forza title (generally a good thing!), but with 11-plus cars from the movie franchise, including Dom's killer '70 Dodge Charger R/T above, and Ludacris doling out racing challenges. Don't own Horizon 2? No worries -- the expansion is standalone and doesn't require the base game to play. Whether or not you're a fan of Brian, Dom and company, it won't hurt much to try this out, either. The Fast & Furious add-on will be free on the Xbox 360 and Xbox One between March 27th and April 10th, after which it'll cost you a not-too-outlandish $10.

  • Man lands in jail for using phone to pirate movie at the theater

The concept of someone recording films at movie theaters for pirating purposes seems so outdated. Yet, that's still happening in some parts of the world, apparently. Most recently, there's the case of Philip Danks, a 25-year-old UK man who just got sentenced to 33 months of jail time after using his phone to record a film in the theater and, subsequently, upload it to his website to let the internet download it at no cost -- at least initially. So which movie, you ask? None other than Fast & Furious 6. According to Universal Pictures, Danks' pirated upload was downloaded nearly 780,000 times, which the studio claimed resulted in a loss of about £2.5 million, or about 4.1 million in US dollars. After his initial arrest, and before he pleaded guilty to the charges yesterday, Danks took to his Facebook page to share his feelings about the ordeal: "Seven billion people and I was the first. Fuck you Universal Pictures." He's now facing 33 months in jail, while 120 hours of unpaid community service were served to a friend who helped him along the way.

Universal really comes to the rescue this week with a very nice slate of releases. As if Battlestar Galactica: The Complete Series wasn't enough -- although totally unaffordable for most people -- there is also Season 4.5 as well as the entire Fast & Furious franchise. On top of all that, there is 12 Monkeys which is a classic that we can't wait to see in HD. Fox also has a few titles this week including the first season of Dollhouse and Sony has the classic depressing drama, A River Runs Through It. The other really notable titles this week -- for geeks at least -- is a little Doctor Who and Torchwood, both courtesy of the BBC and Warner. This should give you plenty to watch in the next few weeks, which is a good thing since releases get skimpy again next week. The new Fast & Furious, not to be confused with the old Fast & Furious, is all set to become the first major theatrical release with D-BOX baked in. And as TheHDRoom points out, these movies were just born to be felt as well as watched. When reviewing the trilogy on Blu-ray, they found these discs immediately among their favorite D-BOX discs. More specifically, they noted that the sensation was strong and engrossing throughout, especially when cars were changing gears -- though they did confess that Tokyo Drift suffered from jolts that were just too faint to really enjoy. Of course, you'd have to be the world's biggest F&F fan to let this trio of flicks convince you to pick up one of those pricey D-BOX motion chairs, but if you're leaning that way, give the read link a look beforehand.

When you're on, you're on. After notching its best ever quarter in terms of sales, D-BOX has just landed yet another huge win. Universal Pictures' Fast & Furious -- which is slated to ignite a new generation of street racers who compete for gas money rather than pink slips -- will be the first major theatrical feature release with the company's Motion Code technology written in. 'Til now, Motion Code had been mostly restricted to at-home films and video games, but now moviegoers who can find a D-BOX-equipped cinema can enjoy this film while feeling all the vibrations and rumbles as the engines rev and the egos flair. Something tells us this kind of occurrence will only get more and more common.

We promise that this will be the last post about any Fast and Furious flick till one of 'em is released. Cool? Tokyo Drift has finally been given a data and will release with The Break-Up on September 26. This also happens to be the same day that their normal DVD counterparts are released. The films are going to be both in 2.35:1 widescreen and of course in 1080p. There isn't much else to report except the The Break-Up is going to have a MSRP of $39.95 but we are sure that it will retail for less when it hits the streets.
