It's football, other football, basketball, and hockeyball in today's Xbox Countdown to 2014 sale, with 75 percent deducted from four arcade sportsters. There's FIFA Street 3 down to $5, NFL Blitz and NBA Jam: On Fire Edition both at $3.74, and 3 on 3 NHL Arcade just $1.24. If you just can't take another charade, some of those games are perfect holiday fodder - the original NBA Jam was a seasonal fixture in our house, the ideal platform for inter-familial bragging rights. For less than $4, EA Canada's reworked On Fire Edition looks a steal. Finally, a quick reminder/warning/warming: This is the last day of the week-long sale, and that means it's the last day you can get a whole bunch of games at reduced prices.

  • Virtua Fighter 5, FIFA Street 3 kick Games on Demand in the face

Because both games involve flying feet, get it? Anyhway, Major Nelson has informed the masses that both Virtua Fighter 5 and FIFA Street 3 have landed on Xbox Live's Games on Demand service. As usual, both games are only available in certain regions. Virtua Fighter 5 is confined to Japan, Hong Kong, Singapore and Taiwan, while FIFA Street 3 is available everywhere except Austria, Canada, Japan, Singapore, Switzerland, Taiwan. Also as usual, pricing varies by region, so check your local listings. You may find yourself wondering just how companies decide which regions get their games. We're convinced that Microsoft has set up a giant Velcro map, next to which is kept a bucket of tennis balls. Granted, we have no proof to back up this theory, but we're almost positive it's the truth.

Fun under the sun. That's probably the sort of feeling that Electronic Arts aimed at bringing out with FIFA Street 3; however, the game unfortunately doesn't completely deliver that sort of experience. At first glance, FIFA Street 3 faithfully replicates the atmosphere of outdoor street soccer with its bright arenas and upbeat soundtrack, coupled with flashy fast-paced futsal. But underneath the highly stylized appearance, there's a lack of gameplay depth which ultimately cuts down the game's longevity. This is not to say that the game isn't fun or the gameplay is horrible; in fact the controls are great and matches are refreshingly intense. However, FIFA Street 3 lacks certain elements and game modes that make other soccer games so much fun to play for extended periods of time. The game has got a few things going for itself, but ultimately, for all its pluses there are an equal number of minuses. %Gallery-16433%

  • DS releases for the week of February 18th

It's a good week to be a DS gamer in pretty much any region. Europe is a possible exception, but we happen to think Paint by DS is a neat-looking product. Outside of Europe and its possibly compelling coloring game, quality abounds this week, with Capcom's Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney as the flagship release in the U.S. Whenever an Ace Attorney game comes out, it's a Big Deal in DS-land, and this one is especially noteworthy!Japan is flooded with cool games this week, including Space Invaders Extreme, the remake, J.B. Harold Murder ClubPopulous DS, and even a new Harvest Moon. And Australia gets a shot at both Advance Wars and Cooking Mama 2! There's a pretty good chance you'll have something to buy this week. As we anxiously await the arrival of PGA Street, Electronic Arts has seen fit to release a demo of FIFA Street 3 on Xbox Live Marketplace. Clocking in at a diminutive 293MB, the game offers up a different kind of soccer experience, the kind that is apparently played in gloomy dockyards and under overpasses (presumably for hard cash and harder women). If soccer simulations have got you down, or your just hankering to pull off your own wall-running Matrix moves, then by all means go give it a try.

  • FIFA Street 3 demo now on Xbox Live

We'd imagine that the FIFA Street series isn't particularly popular with true soccer fans, if only because their tea doilies can often be irreversibly soiled by putting them on the street or nearby benches. And for the rest of us, the players would probably need to smash their teacups on said street and jam one of the resulting shards in an opponent's eye before we'd be able to muster any interest. So, where does that leave FIFA Street 3? Well, if it's going to win anyone over it's badly in need of a demo, something it received on Xbox Live today. Will the third iteration of the game strike a balance between being boring enough for fans of soccer while not being so boring as to make the rest of us pine for the excitement of riding the bus? Only the demo will tell.

FIFA Street 3, EA's arcadey interpretation of soccer designed for people who like their sports games to come with a more (*cringe*) "urban" feel, is coming to the DS.Previously slated for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, EA announced the DS version this morning, promising touch screen controls, the usual array of flicks, bicycle kicks, and tricks, and DS exclusive stages and mini-games.Also making the transition to the handheld version are the unique character models that appear in the home console editions, which we totally love, by the way. Hopefully, the DS's screens will be big enough to sufficiently show these off.First shots below!%Gallery-11431%[Via press release]
