  • Lego Android is 15 inches tall, eats apples for breakfast

Say it with us now, awww. The adorable green bot family scene above is highlighted, rather conspicuously, by a 15-inch tall dude in the middle. He (it?) was built by one Grayson Wendell, who went to the trouble of coding up a program for designing Lego domes mathematically, before spending an entire week putting his own lime-green droid together. Between this and the Android tattoo girl, Google really seems to have cornered the market on fanmade art, while we also appreciate the classy touch of including an iPhone in the shot -- hacked with an Android installation, of course. [Thanks, Grayson]%Gallery-101859%

  • Lara Croft statue is worth every penny

Yeah, we see you staring. And why wouldn't you? This Sideshow Collectibles statue dubbed "Snow Day" is more than easy on the eyes. But this isn't some Saturday night good-time girl, man. This is Lara Croft we're talking about here. Lady Lara Croft. If you want to make her yours, you're going to need to pull out all the stops. In this case "all the stops" translates to $250. Now, we know that's a big commitment, but she's also not available yet, so you have a little time to decide if you're ready to take the plunge. We have a suspicion, though, that she's worth every penny.

[hugohugo at deviantART] deviantArt is usually the site you go to if you want to see uncomfortable, sexual doodles of anime characters and other such nonsense. Today, it's become the place to see the most badass Eddie Riggs homage known to man. In fact, we're pretty sure user hugohugo sold his soul to Satan for the ability to craft such a magnificent resemblance of Brütal Legend's protagonist. Compared to the official alternative, we have to say we dig hugohugo's a bit more. It's got character and is entirely posable -- even the fingers move for wicked faux-solos! [Via OKConsole]

We can't believe it either – Turpster has been let loose on WoW.com to bring you videos from in and around the World of Warcraft! You've heard him on the WoW Insider Show, and now see him on TurpsterVision right here on WoW.com. So it's Black Friday for a lot of you guys out there -- Happy Thanksgiving for yesterday and yes, my Turkey was awesome thanks for asking! A day for picking up electrical bargains and stopping The Intersect falling into Fulcrum's hands -- I'll be honest, my knowledge of Black Friday stems pretty much directly from episodes of Chuck. I was lucky enough to have my latest purchase come through today and I am super stoked to be able to show you guys, Chen Stormstout! This guys is many kinds of huge -- some say he looks like a fat Gene Simmons, I don't see that being a bad thing since The Demon is also pretty awesome (though he's no Starchild). Standing over 8" tall and weighing in at 4.5 lbs, this guy is built to impress. The detailing is beyond anything I've seen on my previous DC Unlimited figures. Enjoy the video and pick one up if you haven't already -- I wonder how much mine is worth now that it's out of the box... Check out more of Turpster's work, recent work like sites made for a Bristol Garden Landscaper or classic stuff from his WoW parody songs to TV previously on Massively.com, not forgetting everyone's favorite podcast 'The WoW Insider Show' and of course, TurpsterVision right here on WoW.com!

  • World of WarCrafts: Custom Arthas figure

World of WarCrafts spotlights art and creativity by WoW players, including fan art, cooking, comics, cosplay, music and fan fiction. Show us how you express yourself; contact our tips line (attention: World of WarCrafts) with your not-for-profit, WoW-inspired creations. This week's WarCraft comes from Jilara of Southshore, US Perenolde (aka WoW.com reader RetPallyJil ) -- and yes, that's Arthas himself. The 12-inch customized figure is a patchwork of modified parts and handcrafted pieces. Arthas wields a "Fantasy Letter Opener" Frostmourne from eBay, refined and repainted. "As for Arthas, I started with a Dragon Models' Alexander the Great as a base figure," she explained to World of WarCrafts. "It was fairly expensive, but I thought the face sculpt was worth it; youthful without being boyish, mature without being craggy. The hair had to be special-ordered -- it's nylon instead of the world standard acrylic (to which I'm terribly allergic.) Again, it was somewhat expensive, but sculpted hair wouldn't do him justice."

Dark Void looks like a pretty good video game or whatever, but its real contribution to the world is this figurine. Sold at Capcom's Comic-Con booth, the figure depicts protagonist Will taking off on his totally sweet jetpack. One detail that probably netted Capcom a few impulse buys: both the helmet and the flames light up.Capcom-Unity says to "stay tuned for more info on these guys," suggesting that there will be some way to obtain one outside of the Comic-Con setting. Either that or the site will offer more info about how awesome it is, which could honestly fill a few additional blog posts. It has lights.

We can't believe it either – Turpster has been let loose on WoW.com to bring you videos from in and around the World of Warcraft! You've heard him on The WoW Insider Show now see him on TurpsterVision right here on WoW.com This past week I undertook an epic unveiling of not so epic proportions in opening up my very own FigurePrint. Fortunately for you, the lucky viewer, I've captured this live on video -- a first encounter of the most awesome kind -- which can be found below the break! The first thing that struck me upon opening the package was the weight of it all; the dome is real glass and is a fantastic way to display your character, keeping them free from dust and many other household evils that lurk outside of Azeroth. The reason I would want to go for a FigurePrint would be to immortalize my character, preserving the culmination of four and a half years hard gaming, and this extra layer of protection allows that to happen. It does however present a barrier, much like we have when playing the game, where we can't touch our character (This statement takes on a whole different meaning with some of Night Elf female mailbox dancers out there) but obviously it serves the purpose of protecting the FigurePrint so I guess I can let it slide.Click on past the break to catch the video and check out the gallery getting up close and personal with FigurePrints!

  • 15 Minutes of Fame: Abotu shapes up a custom figure

15 Minutes of Fame is our look at World of Warcraft players of all shapes and sizes – from the renowned to the relatively anonymous, the remarkable to the player next door. Tip us off to players you'd like to hear more about.Last week, Mike Schramm introduced Abotu (Emerald Dream-US) and his to-die-for custom Troll Rogue action figure. Abotu has been sculpting custom figures as long as he can remember. "When I was little, if there was a toy I wanted that I didn't have, I'd try to make it myself out of modeling clay or construction paper," he remembers. He's done exactly that here by creating Abotu, his own World of Warcraft figure – puts Figureprints to shame, doesn't it? 15 Minutes of Fame visited with Aboto this week, not only to find out more about the player behind the talent but also to get inside scoop on exactly what went into making his Abotu custom. Our two-part look at Abotu the sculptor, the making of Abotu the action figure, plus photo galleries of the Abotu figure and other creations from this talented player ... after the break.

Custom-made Troll Rogue action figure by Abotu

    04.06.2009

We posted that fan-made Draenei Barbie last week, and a few commenters sent us a note about this figure, custom made by Abotu over on Emerald Dream. The Barbie was just something funny that a few fans did while bored, but this Troll Rogue is the real thing -- custom leather armor fitted onto what used to be a Tomb Raider figure, heavily modified with Sculpey, wood (for the daggers) and even boot laces (for the braids). It's really, really impressive, not only in the way it looks, but in what it took to make: the whole thing took about two months' worth of work (Abotu guesses it might cost over $1000 to make selling these worth it), and many parts of it are completely fabricated. The head is sculpted from scratch, and the hands and feet are from an X-men Nightcrawler figure, but even those have been shaped to look completely different from what they used to be.Quite a piece of work. We've put all of the image in an easily browseable gallery below, to save you from the trouble of cutting and pasting Photobucket links. Our own 15 Minutes of Fame column has also scheduled an interview with Abotu, so stay tuned for more information on how this all came together (and how you too might be able to immortalize your character like this). And as always, if you've heard of some amazing fan art like this, feel free to send it along on our tipline -- we always love seeing what World of Warcraft fans are putting their crafting skill points into.%Gallery-49393%

As gamers and general obsessing types of folk, we find our love of games doesn't actually stop at just the game. We buy figurines, peripherals bearing the likeness of characters we enjoy, and posters, among other things. What we're asking you today is which of these franchises to do you go beyond just the game with? What characters or games do you own figurines, posters, and soundtracks for?

Today, the Capcom Blog decided to reveal the box art and a prototype figurine for Bionic Commando. The thing about the figurine, though, is that the company has no idea when, where, how or if the general consumer will be able to get one.OK, we have no idea what the point of showing off the six-inch tall prototype is other than to gauge consumer interest. So, fine, we'll bite. It's kinda sexy. What say y'all? Would you pay $20 more if it came in one of those "limited edition" packages these companies are so fond of?

First 4 Figures has come back around full circle, after completing Sheik and Sonic and his pals, now they've got yet another Samus statue. This one, in our opinion, totally trumps all of their past efforts. Just look at the thing.Of course, the catch is that this costs a bunch of money. $224.99 in money, to be exact. For those of you with a winning lottery ticket, this goes on sale Q1 of next year.

  • Three things to get you excited about Shiren 3

    by

First reason to be hyped about Shiren the Wanderer: The Sleeping Princess in the Clockwork Palace's release, even though no one has announced a U.S. localization yet -- Famitsu's review score: 35/40 (9 / 9 / 8 / 9). Though many consider Famitsu to be too forgiving with its reviews for highly advertised, big-budget games, the Shiren series doesn't seem to fit that description. For such a niche game to receive a high score like this, Chunsoft must have done something right!Second reason -- See Asuka model pictured above (and past the break). We're not the type to leave figures of female anime characters posed around our rooms, giving women even more reason to run away from the mess we've made of our lives, but as we demonstrated with the Koppa remote stand preorder bonus, we have a weakness to Shiren merchandise. As for our third reason, swing your sword to check for traps, and step past the break for a new Shiren 3 commercial. It features a collection of player deaths set to Beethoven's Symphony No. 5 -- what's not to like?

  • Figureprints figure underwhelms, will be replaced

    04.23.2008

As I mentioned on the WoW Insider Show the other day, reader Chad G. sent us a tip about the Figureprints character he received (probably one of the first shipped figures that we've heard about so far), and as you can see from the pictures, he was a little underwhelmed by the quality, While the actual process went OK, the figure itself just seems kind of dusty, which hardly counts as the "vibrant" colors we were promised back when these things were first announced. From across the room, he says, it's hard to make out any colors at all -- the whole thing looks "dusty black."Chad says he doesn't know if he would buy this thing again, although since he posted the pictures, he says that Figureprints is sending him another figurine, so maybe this was a mistake (there was also apparently a spot of paint missing on the figure's arm, and that seems more like a flaw in the specific figure than the process). Either way, while it's cool to have your character in actual, real 3D form, maybe the Figureprints folks don't quite have all the kinks worked out yet.%Gallery-21352%

  • That girl is Poison

    12.17.2007

Our favorite Final Fight character, beyond a doubt, is Poison. It would take something really special to outshine Mike Haggar, but Poison does. Even though she was just one of the basic grunt enemies, her hypersexualized appearance and random flipping made her memorable among the countless Axls, Dugs, and Two.P's.Later, when we learned about Capcom's biographical information about the character, she became even more memorable. REFLECT's Masauzi Yoshizawa, a more active Poison fan, sculpted an amazing figurine of the character last year and made it available as a garage kit. Now it's being released as a preassembled, prepainted model more suitable for our useless hands, gnarled from years of unending punch combos. NCSX is selling this 1/6 scale figure for $68. OH, MY WALLET.Oh, and of course we couldn't use the word "Poison" in a post without embedding a certain something after the break.

  • Even cardboard robots like Wii

    by

    12.12.2007

Let's face it: the Wii is the universal "awesome device." It's the kind of thing that has everyone falling in love with it once they try it, immediately inquiring as to where they can find their own and how much real life monies it will cost to procure it. It's a truly wonderful thing. Now, it would appear that making a cardboard robot and taking a couple of pictures of it holding a Wiimote wouldn't be that newsworthy. What's newsworthy about this particular piece of art is sculpted after the Revoltech Dunboard Figure and the boxes used to construct him are custom-made, as the Japanese Wii box (wow, remember when we thought we were getting different colors at launch?) very much resembles the one here for us in the United States.[Thanks, Frankie; via Hobby Blog]

  • Big Daddy figurine replacement (mini) update

Way back in August, 2K Games announced a Big Daddy figurine replacement program for those who purchased the collector's edition of BioShock and received a broken figurine. Days, weeks and even months have passed and we still haven't heard about any replacment figures or pre-paid return boxes being shipped or arriving at gamers' doorsteps. So, being all reportor-like, we shot out an email and received a mini-update on the status of the replacement program.According to a 2K Games rep, the replacement program is still "go" and those who received a broken figurine will get a replacement soon enough. The hold up is due to the production of new, replacement figures as 2K wants to make sure they have the figures on hand before they move ahead with any other steps. We were told to keep an eye on The Cult of Rapture website in the months ahead for more updates and to learn when the return boxes get shipped. In recap, the replacement Big Daddys are on their way, they're (still) being manufactured, 2K Games will update the community when boxes are being shipped and we all must be super patient. Though, being patient is hard when every day you see your Bubbles suffering with a broken drill bit.

  • What a horrible summer not to be going to Comic-Con

NECA, the company responsible for the awesome Castlevania figure prototypes, has a new Simon Belmont figure on the way. It's a somewhat more faithful sculpture of Simon as he appeared in the first Castlevania on the NES. Unfortunately, only 1,000 units will be produced, and it will only be available at the San Diego Comic-Con.We totally want this, and we are all about pixel art, but we must say that this figure, with its rounded edges and inexact paint job, looks a little more like a cookie to us than an action figure. Which actually gives us an idea! [Via NeoGAF]

You know, for all of us who live outside the confines of Japan, real Nintendo merchandise is pretty scarce (or a horrible knock-off). All kinds of figurines, posters and the like are readily available in just about any shop in the country (we didn't check on the validity of such a claim, but leave us with our delusions). For us in the U.S. and other regions, we must either pay the hefty price of importing or live a bland, boring existence where we can only play Nintendo games and not live them in every aspect of our life. Oh, what a cruel world! That is no more, though, as we're happy to announce Nintendo has teamed up with Corgi International Limited to provide us with a "multi-category range of products" until 2010. The goodies we will be able to purchase are extended to "Action Figures, Playset Environments, FX Electronic Products, Iconic Game Replicas, Multi Sized Plush, and Vinyl Figures." Personally, we can't wait until they make a life-sized Link pillow that we can hold tight while we sleep. What? Don't act like you wouldn't!

    04.15.2007

With all the stuff coming out based on the Animal Crossing movie in Japan, you can play Animal Crossing for real-- by buying a whole bunch of adorable items and displaying them in your house! NCSX is selling new playsets, each featuring an animal, two matching pieces of furniture, and a house. There are also two special sets containing characters like Wendell and Tom Nook, and, of course, some more furniture.NCSX is also stocking some Animal Crossing plush toys and coffee mugs. We are aware that Animal Crossing strongly promotes the collector mentality in-game, so we hope we haven't just emptied any fans' wallets by pointing this stuff out.
