Everyone's favorite annoying Windurstian Black Mage is back, and she's kicking Chaos's butt in Final Fantasy Dissidia for your PSP. So why are we telling you this? Well we figured you might want to pick up this powerful little tarutaru to not only show your love for online games, but also to completely screw with your friends. It's pretty embarassing when you lose to someone playing Tidus, but it's even more embarrassing to lose to a small, cute, self-rhyming tarutaru. Especially one as self-centered as the Professor. If you're looking to grab Shantotto, first beat Dissidia and collect all of the crystals. Once that's done, Cosmos (our intrepid FFXI Altana-esque character) will remember spending a period of time with Professor Shantotto.

Dissidia will be making its way to European shores -- that's the UK and across all PAL territories -- on September 4. That's only a week or so after the American launch, but in return, European Final Fantasy fans will get access to the limited edition version of the game. The western release will also feature new content that wasn't available in the Japanese version, including an Arcade Mode, more balanced gameplay and other fun stuff.

See the full picture. Now, who would have thought you could print on both sides of paper? Apparently, Square Enix discovered it could do just that with its North American Final Fantasy: Dissidia box art. Taking advantage of the whole good versus evil theme, future owners of the title can choose whether they want to sport the villainous force of Chaos on the outside, or flip out the baddies for a cover featuring the heroic champions of Cosmos. With this, and the recently announced Final Fantasy PSP bundle, it appears Square Enix is really looking to push Dissidia forward. Look out for it in August.

The first official US debut trailer for Dissidia: Final Fantasy has made its way onto GameTrailers (you can watch it past the break) and, like most Square Enix trailers, is full of great music and lots of words. Oh, and CG. Square Enix loves the CG. But, we will admit that even though there's no gameplay footage, there is a certain warm, fuzzy feeling we get seeing Final Fantasy's good guys square off against the series' evil doers. Dissidia: Final Fantasy will release in the US this summer.

It's okay, Europeans. You can stop holding your collective breath. Dissidia, the Final Fantasy fighting game, will definitely be heading to PAL regions. The PSP exclusive will be available to purchase in the region this Autumn, a few months after the American "mid-year" launch. Hopefully, Europeans will be rewarded for their patience with a special edition and a branded PSP bundle, much like the Crisis Core release last year. Fingers crossed!%Gallery-12134%

One didn't think that Kefka, the insane clown-like villain with the distinctive laugh from Final Fantasy VI, could get any creepier. But he just totally did in the latest Dissida art of him, as revealed by Shonen Jump -- look at the way he's ogling at poor Terra/Tina. She ain't no damsel in distress though; her EX mode named "Trance" is looking pretty powerful. Take a look at the full scan over at PSPHyper.

var digg_url = 'http://digg.com/playstation/Top_20_Final_Fantasy_characters_that_should_be_in_Dissidia'; Although Final Fantasy Dissidia has yet to be announced outside Japan, we're still fervently watching out for more tidbits on this hotly anticipated title. However, the last we heard about anything officially confirmed in this game was back in December, and with Nintendo coming off strong with another mixed-cameo fighter -- Super Smash Bros. Brawl -- perhaps the PSP-exclusive Dissidia has been forgotten amongst the Mario and Link duels everyone's been having. Or maybe everyone's just too enraptured in getting their FF fix from the recently released Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII. In any case, we're still very excited about this next PSP exclusive from Square Enix, and wouldn't want gamers out there to forget about this megaton game. With little known about the character roster, there leaves a lot of room for speculation. So in all our best efforts, we present this Dissidia feature highlighting the top twenty Final Fantasy supporting characters we want to see in the game. Arguably, in a game like this, a good cast of playable characters is crucial; it's working for Brawl, and it'll undoubtedly go the same way for Dissidia. But why only supporting characters you might ask? Well, you'll find that out soon enough. Start the countdown! >

So far, we can point out: Garland (I), Emperor Palamecia (II), Cloud of Darkness (III), Golbez (IV), Exdeath (V), Kefka (VI), Sephiroth (VII), Ultimecia (VIII), Kuja (IX), and Jecht (X). The CG trailer for this PSP brawler showed Squall going head to head against Sephiroth.Fans of Squall will be glad to see his oh-so-dreamy good looks again. • Why is Dissidia on PSP?

    05.31.2007

In an interview with Degenki, Final Fantasy Dissidia producer Tetsuya Nomura explained why Dissidia is heading to PSP instead of other more popular systems (such as the PS2). A translation from PSPHyper shows the reasoning: "PSP was chosen as the platform due to it's ad-hoc mode and the fact that people generally don't like split screen gaming. Nomura said that with its large install base, the PS2 maybe the natural choice but it also means that multiplayer modes has to be played on split screen, which reduce the fun factor by half."While it's true that PSP has ad-hoc support, let's hope that the development team at Square Enix doesn't forget that it also has Infrastructure as well. Although Dissidia seems like a perfect candidate for online play, Capcom's Monster Hunter series shows that online play isn't a significant concern for Japanese developers and gamers.

  • Official Final Fantasy Dissidia site open - coming to PSP! [UPDATE]

The official site for Final Fantasy Dissidia has opened today. Tragically, there's very little to it beyond a short flash intro. "Fantasy is endless", it says. You don't say. Twelve "Final" Fantasies so far with a decade more to come? Some might definitely call that endless. Fine by me, I'll take as much as they can give. As the site says, more information will be revealed at the Square Enix Party later this month. The Dissidia flash itself is a bit bare, despite some pretty character logo art by Nomura Yoshitaka Amano. By checking another part of the Square Enix website (namely the PSP section of the upcoming games list), we can see Dissidia nestled at the top, confirming our suspicions that it will definitely be coming to our favourite handheld. Check it out and see for yourself! We'll keep you posted as more information becomes available.[UPDATE] The logo art is by Yoshitaka Amano, not Tetsuya Nomura as originally thought. Nomura will, however, be doing the character art for the game itself.[Thanks, Silver Wolfe!]
