Over the past 28 years, the Hubble Space Telescope has inspired a generation of astronomers with insanely dramatic views of the universe, but it's hardly done blowing our minds. NASA has unveiled a new fly-through video of the Lagoon Nebula. Located in the center of the Milky Way, NASA calls it a "raucous star nursery" full of dust and star formation with "Herschel 36," a star 200,000 times larger than our sun, at its center.

Is it harder waiting in anticipation for a game that may never be or mourning a game that could have been but died? Unfortunately, MMO players who were looking forward to the completion of Copernicus have the opportunity to test that question for themselves, and more videos are revealing just what the players will be missing out on. Yesterday we shared a Copernicus video fly-through highlighting parts of the game. Today, two more videos give viewers a virtual tour of the splendor of the city of Jottunhessen. Check them out after the break.

  • Former 38 Studios dev releases Copernicus video, details player-driven systems

Stop us if you've heard this one before. Former 38 Studios developer shows us how awesome Copernicus the Kingdoms of Amalur massively multiplayer title would have been, and quality-starved MMO players cry into their beer. In any event, here's another posthumous reveal, this time courtesy of Steve "Moorgard" Danuser's personal blog. Danuser has posted a fly-through video that was originally intended as an in-engine milestone for internal eyes only. Now it's a bit more salt in the wound unless the shuttered MMO's assets ever find their way into the hands of another studio. Danuser doesn't stop with the video, though. He goes into some detail about aspects of the game's design that would have differentiated it from much of the current MMO landscape. There's a lot more I'd like to tell you about the game, such as how our fully planned four-year story arc was driven by player participation. How the theme of choice and consequence permeated our systems, content, and world design. How the choices players made during our chapter-based story arc would cause permanent and lasting changes to each server -- changes that could be different from other servers. How expansions to the game world had already been mapped out and were tied into that chapter storyline, so the world would grow in a very organic and logical way rather than feeling like expansions were tacked onto the core game by a new team that was bored with the work that had been done before. How our storyline had a real conclusion–because you can't tell a great story without an ending. Head past the break for the full video. [Thanks to Syeric for the tip!]

  • New flythrough video previews Project Copernicus

In the wake of the Rhode Island governor's release announcement, all eyes are on 38 Studios and Project Copernicus. Up until now the title has been talked about only in hushed tones, but today we've gotten a little something more: a flythrough of some areas of the game, showing off what we can expect from the environments. And suddenly that announced release date seems just a touch more plausible because the environments certainly look gorgeous. Players of Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning will no doubt recognize some of the environmental looks if not the exact locations, but everyone can appreciate the design that's gone into each region. Of course, it's a long road between showing a pretty place and making a playable game, and 38 Studios is still struggling to keep its head above water. But the MMO the studio has promised seems a bit more plausible now, and hopefully there's a light at the end of this particular tunnel. [Thanks to all the tipsters who sent this in!]

  • TERA fly-through videos showcase the Valley of Titans and Pirate Grotto

What's better than a new TERA fly-through video? Two new TERA fly-through videos, of course! We've got a look at two new zones for you, courtesy of En Masse Entertainment and Bluehole Studio. First up is the Pirate Grotto, a smuggler's haven tucked away in the jungles of TERA's Jagged Coast. Brigands of all shapes and sizes call the area home, as do many stashes of treasure, relics, and various hordes of wealth ripe for the plunder. Next up is the Valley of Titans, and as the name suggests, it's big. Giant monuments of an earlier age dot the landscape, proving that size does matter and that TERA's designers know how to create stunning scenery. The valley also plays host to a secretive cult bent on destroying both the beautiful landscapes and the ranchers who call it home. You can view both trailers after the cut.

DC Universe Online may have been delayed from its original November 2010 start date, but the SOE marketing department is still faster than a speeding bullet (and arguably more powerful than a locomotive). Lately we've been privy to everything from voiceover videos with the game's star-studded audio cast, to new screenshots galore, to fly-through videos of the expansive game world. Today brings another fly-through clip, this time showcasing the Metropolis Police Department that functions as an in-game hub for your characters. In addition to footage in and around the station, the video also provides a bit of background on the use of the wanted posters inside the station. The posters provide lore about DCUO's more noteworthy personalities as well as serve a gameplay function by helping you track them down for various missions. Check out the full video after the break.

  • Student creates 3D Aztec suspended-flythrough for master's thesis

California State University multimedia student Tommy Lothian has come up with quite the master's thesis: a virtual flythrough of an imaginative Aztec world wherein players don 3D goggles and strap themselves into a harness that suspends them horizontally, enabling them to interact with objects and complete tasks, including stabbing a monster with a jade stone, scaling an active volcano, and, uh, not hallucinating over too much fermented agave juice. No word on what Tommy plans to do with the tech, but we bet that agave juice simulation would be a huge hit at parties.
