W2? We don't need no stinkin' W2. <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/fujifilm">Fujifilm</a> skipped right over that for W3 when deciding what to call its second-gen <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/real3d">Real 3D</a> camera. The W1 model didn't exactly fare well in the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/08/24/fujifilm-finepix-real-3d-w1-slammed-in-early-review-company-res/">hands of reviewers</a>, but hopefully the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/08/17/fujifilm-introduces-finepix-real-3d-w3-camera-we-go-hands-on/">rather more sleek looking W3</a> can do the deed, offering a larger, 3.5-inch glasses-free 3D LCD display along with HDMI 1.4 output and dual 10 megapixel sensors. Yes, the same number of pixels as before, but this version can make better use of them, stepping up to 720p video recording from the former's VGA. You'll get all that for the same price as the old one: $499. Find out what it's like in <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/08/17/fujifilm-introduces-finepix-real-3d-w3-camera-we-go-hands-on/">our detailed hands-on</a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/09/01/fujifilm-ships-second-gen-real-3d-camera-calls-it-w3/">Fujifilm ships second-gen Real 3D camera, calls it W3</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Wed, 01 Sep 2010 09:43:00 EST. When reviewers call your product "the worst ____ ever made," do you give up and move on? Or do you build a second model and try to prove them wrong? After introducing the world's first consumer stereoscopic 3D shooter <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/08/24/fujifilm-finepix-real-3d-w1-slammed-in-early-review-company-res/">to dismal reviews</a>, FujiFilm chose door number two, replacing the camera with a thinner, lighter, and easier-to-use version that addresses a host of complaints and costs $100 less to boot. The FujiFilm FinePix Real 3D W3 adds a larger 3.5-inch, 16:9 LCD screen, a 720p video recording mode, and HDMI 1.4 out for dropping images and videos right into your 3D-ready TV. Oh, and it actually feels like a real camera this time, our favorite feature by far. We got some hands-on time with the new cross-eyed shooter, read on for more! <div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/fujifilms-real-3d-w3-camera-hands-on/">Fujifilm's Real 3D W3 camera hands-on</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/fujifilms-real-3d-w3-camera-hands-on/#3263623"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/08/8-15-10-fuji3d80011_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/fujifilms-real-3d-w3-camera-hands-on/#3263616"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/08/8-15-10-fuji3d80004_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/fujifilms-real-3d-w3-camera-hands-on/#3263614"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/08/8-15-10-fuji3d80002_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/fujifilms-real-3d-w3-camera-hands-on/#3263615"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/08/8-15-10-fuji3d80003_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/fujifilms-real-3d-w3-camera-hands-on/#3263617"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/08/8-15-10-fuji3d80005_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/08/17/fujifilm-introduces-finepix-real-3d-w3-camera-we-go-hands-on/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Fujifilm introduces Finepix Real 3D W3 camera, we go hands-on</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/08/17/fujifilm-introduces-finepix-real-3d-w3-camera-we-go-hands-on/">Fujifilm introduces Finepix Real 3D W3 camera, we go hands-on</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Tue, 17 Aug 2010 00:13:00 EST. Fujifilm's <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/10/01/fujifilm-finepix-real-3d-w1-now-shipping-to-soon-to-be-disappoin/">REAL 3D W1</a> didn't exactly get the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/08/24/fujifilm-finepix-real-3d-w1-slammed-in-early-review-company-res/">warmest of welcomes</a>, but even today it remains one of the few point-and-shoots that can natively take 3D photographs. Here at NVIDIA's <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/Computex/">Computex</a> press conference, the company slid in this little nugget: Sony's new Alpha series of <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/02/21/sony-intros-alpha-dslr-concepts-micro-four-thirds-model-include/">interchangeable lens compact cameras</a> are now compatible with NVIDIA's 3D image processing software (<a target="_blank" href="http://www.nvidia.com/object/3d-vision-3d-pictures.html">3D Vision Photo Viewer</a>). You won't get your Alpha growing <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/12/18/sony-working-on-3d-alpha-dslr-cameras/">a second lens</a> or anything (at least not <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/02/22/sony-confirms-plans-for-consumer-friendly-3d-cameras/">yet</a>), but any image you shoot with it can be post-processed as 3D thanks to the new partnership. Details beyond that were few and far between, but the company's obviously stoked to have Sony onboard. 'Course, with Sony's own <a href="http://engadget.com/tag/sony,3d">3D obsession</a>, we wouldn't be shocked to hear that every single one of the outfit's cameras will soon be on the three-dee bandwagon in some form or another.<p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/05/31/nvidia-bringing-3d-images-to-sonys-alpha-camera-lineup/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>NVIDIA bringing 3D images to Sony's Alpha camera lineup</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/05/31/nvidia-bringing-3d-images-to-sonys-alpha-camera-lineup/">NVIDIA bringing 3D images to Sony's Alpha camera lineup</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Mon, 31 May 2010 05:25:00 EST. Still monkeying around with that <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/07/22/fujifilms-finepix-real-3d-w1-camera-and-real-3d-v1-picture-view/">Finepix Real 3D W1</a> camera, somewhat confused about what exactly you bought it for? Take heart, bandwagon jumper -- the bridge you've been searching for has just been constructed. Fujifilm has recently introduced a new card reader / HD player for use with its year-old 3D point-and-shoot, and judging by the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/ces,3d">topic of conversation</a> at this year's CES, it sure seems like the timing is far better this go 'round. Put simply, the HDP-L1 (&yen;4,000; $43) accepts both 2D and 3D content stored on SD / SDHC cards from your W1, and the HDMI output pipes that content directly onto your shiny new 3D HDTV for at-home enjoyment. We're told that it'll also work with that antediluvian 2D content as well, but let's be honest -- you didn't buy a 3D camera just to shoot in 2D, now did you? On second thought, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/08/24/fujifilm-finepix-real-3d-w1-slammed-in-early-review-company-res/">don't answer that</a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/04/23/fujifilms-finepix-hd-player-hdp-l1-puts-3d-w1-footage-onto-your/">Fujifilm's Finepix HD Player HDP-L1 puts 3D W1 footage onto your new 3D HDTV</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Fri, 23 Apr 2010 06:54:00 EST. Why, you concoct a 3D printer (definitely <em>not</em> pictured) to work with it, of course! Fujifilm has just kicked out its new 3D Print System, which enables 3D photographs to be created "on the spot" using dye-sublimation technology to print directly on to the base of a lenticular sheet. Unfortunately, prints will only be available in four sizes ranging from 4- x 6-inches to 6- x 9-inches, but we're hoping that some sort of magical firmware update will enable poster-sized prints for those really looking to drive their retinas batty. Mum's the word on a price, but it should hit UK shelves by April for an undisclosed rate.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/02/03/fujifilm-intros-3d-print-system-which-probably-requires-wicked/">Fujifilm intros 3D Print System, which probably requires wicked expensive ink</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Wed, 03 Feb 2010 11:46:00 EST. Taking 3D pictures with Fujifilm's <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/fujifilm,3d">3D point and shoot</a> is pretty easy -- even if ultimately <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/08/24/fujifilm-finepix-real-3d-w1-slammed-in-early-review-company-res/">unsatisfying</a> -- but if you need a place to display them, LG has that covered. Tucked away in its booth was a demo of "the world's first 3D camera compatible HDTV" dutifully taking SD-card stored snaps and putting them on the big screen. Not an entirely complex process, but we figure if a better reviewed 3D camera makes it to market, you might appreciate picking up the right HDTV for the job.<br />

Well, partner, are you the sort to ignore woefully bad reviews and plunk your hard-earned cash down on expensive gadgets anyway? Buck up, because here's your chance. Fujifilm's <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/fujifilm,w1/">Finepix REAL 3D W1</a> may not have <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/08/24/fujifilm-finepix-real-3d-w1-slammed-in-early-review-company-res/">impressed the critics</a> -- or, really, anyone, apparently -- but it's now shipping into the hands of consumers who can't be bothered to read such things. MSRP for the camera is $599.95, while the 3D digital viewer will go for $499.95. Finally, if you're still into the whole prints on paper scene, you'll have to wait a few weeks until the company's SeeHere.com goes live, then pay a whopping $6.99 per print. Hey, nobody said the future of imaging would be cheap.<br /><br /><strong>Update</strong>: SeeHere.com is indeed live as we speak.<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/digitalcameras/" rel="tag">Digital Cameras</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/10/01/fujifilm-finepix-real-3d-w1-now-shipping-to-soon-to-be-disappoin/">Fujifilm Finepix REAL 3D W1 now shipping to soon to be disappointed consumers</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Thu, 01 Oct 2009 08:04:00 EST. The first thing you notice about FujiFilm's &euro;499 <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/real%203d">Real 3D W1</a> camera is its size. It's big -- big in the way that bloggers see main stream media journalists as big. And the industrial design is straight-up Cold War. Still, it delivers 3D without special glasses and does so with surprisingly realistic detail -- it really does work. Yeah, you have to position yourself oh so carefully just in front of FujiFilm's &euro;349 FinePix 3D Viewer or printed photos courtesy of a FujiFilm web service, but the novelty might be worthwhile for those with money to burn. It begins shipping to Europe and likely beyond in late September. Check the video demonstration from IFA and let Germania wash over you.<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/fujifilm-real-3d-given-a-video-hands-on-by-fake-journalists/">FujiFilm Real 3D given a video hands-on by fake journalists</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/fujifilm-real-3d-given-a-video-hands-on-by-fake-journalists/#2260729"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2009/09/fujifilm-real-3d-dsc_7149-engadget_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/fujifilm-real-3d-given-a-video-hands-on-by-fake-journalists/#2260727"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2009/09/fujifilm-real-3d-dsc_7147-engadget_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/fujifilm-real-3d-given-a-video-hands-on-by-fake-journalists/#2260731"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2009/09/fujifilm-real-3d-dsc_7148-engadget_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/fujifilm-real-3d-given-a-video-hands-on-by-fake-journalists/#2260730"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2009/09/fujifilm-real-3d-dsc_7150-engadget_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/fujifilm-real-3d-given-a-video-hands-on-by-fake-journalists/#2260734"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2009/09/fujifilm-real-3d-dsc_7151-engadget_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/09/05/fujifilm-real-3d-camera-given-a-video-hands-on-by-fake-3d-journa/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>FujiFilm Real 3D camera given a video hands-on by fake 3D journalists</em></a></p><p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/digitalcameras/" rel="tag">Digital Cameras</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/09/05/fujifilm-real-3d-camera-given-a-video-hands-on-by-fake-3d-journa/">FujiFilm Real 3D camera given a video hands-on by fake 3D journalists</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Sat, 05 Sep 2009 15:19:00 EST. <i>Akihabara News'</i> early review of the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/fujifilm,3d">Fujifilm W1 3D Camera</a> pretty much laid everything out from the get-go with its headline, "The worst camera ever made: the review." It assuredly caused more than a few raised eyebrows, not the least of which from Fujifilm itself. In an interesting and welcoming move, the company invited the publication to a face-to-face meeting -- not for some physical redemption, mind you, but to address all the points of disappointment. There isn't a lot said to alleviate concerns, and the common thread among all replies is pretty much that this is a new field that currently caters to a very small niche, and there's gonna be speed bumps for time to come -- in other words, better luck next time. Still, it's somewhat refreshing to see a major company tackle the subject head-on and in public view -- now if only we could make this an industry-wide trend.<br />

<div align="left">Fujifilm's <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/07/12/fuljfilms-finepix-real-3d-camera-to-launch-in-september-cost-a/">Finepix Real 3D W1</a> may look like a fairly standard (albeit dual-lensed) compact camera in its <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/07/22/fujifilms-finepix-real-3d-w1-camera-and-real-3d-v1-picture-view/">official shots</a>, but as the folks at <em>Stuff.tv</em> discovered when they unboxed theirs, it's a slightly different story in person. While not exactly a deal-breaker, the camera looks to be considerably harder to just toss in a pocket than a regular compact camera, and it weighs about as much as the non-compact <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/e-p1">Olympus E-P1</a>. That said, it does apparently deliver the goods when it comes to capturing 3D movies and still images, and it'll even work with macro shots, although that apparently requires a bit of practice. Not that it wasn't official when <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/07/12/fuljfilms-finepix-real-3d-camera-to-launch-in-september-cost-a/"><em>Time </em>featured it</a> early last week, but now Fujifilm's now rolled out the proverbial red carpet for its FinePix Real 3D W1 camera, with a press release providing more details about both it and the Real 3D V1 8-inch picture viewer. Some of more notable features on the W1 -- aside from being the touted "world's first 3D imagine system," of course -- is a 3x optical zoom, a 3D LCD system for on-camera viewing, Dual Capture Shooting Mode for taking two shots simultaneously with different settings, and just to be perfectly clear, the ability to shoot video in three mind-blowing dimensions. Additionally, the two lens can be used for some more creative, but decidedly old-fashioned 2D photography. As for the V1 display, it's got a 3D / 2D LCD panel with 800 x 600 resolution, supports playback of 3D pics and movies, and supports SD / SDHC. No word on what the resolution / card support is for the camera, but for now we're gonna guess it's at parity with the frame. If you're wanting physical 3D prints, Fujifilm says it'll be providing that service, doing the prints in-house and send them your way. Actual printers for purchase will come once a sustainable market exists (assuming that happens). The W1 camera and V1 frame are listed with a September 2009 launch date, as we previously heard -- price is curiously listed as TBA, but since <em>Time</em> already let slip a $600 estimate, take that as your ballpark estimate for the interim.<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/digitalcameras/" rel="tag">Digital Cameras</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/07/22/fujifilms-finepix-real-3d-w1-camera-and-real-3d-v1-picture-view/">Fujifilm's FinePix Real 3D W1 camera and Real 3D V1 picture viewer detailed, can do 3D movies as well</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Wed, 22 Jul 2009 01:11:00 EST. Yeah, it's steep, and that's not all: to properly view the images you'll need to either shell out for special prints with a plastic lenticular lens on it or buy a special stereoscopic LCD photo frame, and none of that really screams "cheap." Honestly, our instinct would be to spend all that scratch on a good DSLR or even something like the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/07/01/olympus-e-p1-hands-on-test-shots-and-mini-review/">Olympus E-P1</a>, but there's always a chance Fujifilm's about to reveal the public's deep-rooted desire for 3D snapshots. We'll see -- anyone dying for one of these?<br /><br />[Thanks, ED]<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/digitalcameras/" rel="tag">Digital Cameras</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/07/12/fuljfilms-finepix-real-3d-camera-to-launch-in-september-cost-a/">Fujifilm's FinePix Real 3D camera to launch in September, cost around $600</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Sun, 12 Jul 2009 21:02:00 EST. Unlike <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2007/10/09/adobe-develops-3d-camera-technology-dubs-it-computational-photo/">other</a> <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/02/21/new-3d-camera-chip-design-might-put-adobe-on-guard/">tech</a> we've seen that does 3D in one shot, this one sports a pair of lenses and sensors to capture light in stereo, while on the back a 2.8-inch LCD alternates between the two images at 60 fps to give an apparently convincing 3D effect. Better, though, should be the 8.4-inch 3D photo frame under development, and Fuji's Frontier photo labs are also being upgraded to produce lenticular prints (the sort you can tilt left and right to see different things) that are said be "really good." The camera itself is scheduled to drop around September of 2009, but since even looking at the results of your work is going to be a bit of a challenge at first we're not <em>entirely </em>sure how popular the thing will be. Regardless, we're glad someone is paving the way.<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/digitalcameras/" rel="tag">Digital Cameras</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/11/21/fujifilms-3d-camera-gets-the-hands-on-treatment/">Fujifilm's 3D camera gets the hands-on treatment</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Fri, 21 Nov 2008 12:11:00 EST. As the announcements continue to flow <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/photokina/">from Cologne</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/Fujifilm/">Fujifilm</a> is vying for some time in the limelight with two introductions of its own. The FinePix Real 3D system is built around a "newly-developed 3D processor and a twin-lens camera concept" which enables 3D capture and even 3D printing. As of now, no actual products have been revealed to take advantage of the technology, but it's evidently just a matter of time before your images are literally hanging off of your future digital photo frame. Moving on, we've got the Super CCD EXR, a "three-in-one" sensor that supposedly provides high resolution, high sensitivity and wide dynamic range. Essentially, this could lead to ultracompact cameras that provide stunning image quality without injecting high levels of noise in low-light scenarios, but sadly, there's no actual Super CCD EXR-infused camera to swoon over just yet.
