A digital adaptation of the Warhammer 40,000-based board game, Space Hulk, will premiere on the iPad next week from Frontline Tactics developer Full Control. Originally released for Windows and Mac earlier this year, Space Hulk puts players in control of a squad of Space Marine Terminators who must infiltrate a derelict spacefaring vessel and clear it of alien threats in a series of turn-based battles. The iPad version Space Hulk features a cross-platform multiplayer mode compatible with the previously released PC and Mac editions, and will be priced at $10 when it launches on December 5.

Developer Full Control has revealed a new campaign for its grid-based strategy game Space Hulk, dubbed "Messenger of Purgatory." The campaign adds three new missions which ask "players to retrieve the remains of the fallen Captain Atarius." This downloadable addition also fixes a number of bugs present in the original game. Best of all, Messenger of Purgatory is free. Though not currently available, when the DLC debuts (supposedly later today) Space Hulk players will be able to pick up Messenger of Purgatory by visiting either the game's official site or Steam. "We wanted to give the community a big 'thank you' for the wonderful support they have shown, through the first stage of launch, and we think that fans will really love the Messenger of Purgatory campaign," said Full Control CEO Thomas Hentschel Lund "This game update addresses many of the fan requests and suggestions that continue to hone and refine the experience of Space Hulk."

Bulky turn-based strategy game Space Hulk is currently up for pre-order through Steam. Supporting Steamplay, the PC and Mac versions will launch on Steam August 15 for $30. An iOS port is due to launch sometime later. Space Hulk is an adaptation of the popular Games Workshop board game of the same name, set within the fictional Warhammer 40K universe and focusing on the Imperium of Man's elite Space Marines. The last game to focus on these genetically modified monstrosities of war was Relic Entertainment's Warhammer 40K: Space Marines, published by THQ in late 2011.

While the thought of The Incredible Hulk jumping from planet to planet, crushing puny things along the way, is certainly appealing, Space Hulk is entirely different. It's a 3D, turn-based strategy game from independent studio Full Control, set in the Warhammer 40K universe and based on the original board game from 1989.Space Hulk follows the "Sin of Damnation" campaign from the third edition board game and puts players in the boots of a Space Marine squad as they fight to survive against an alien race called Genestealers, within the confines of a derelict ship abandoned long ago. There will be single-player and multiplayer in Space Hulk, the latter even offering cross-platform play between PC, Mac and iOS users. An included editor will allow players to create their own levels and share them with the community.Space Hulk will launch sometime in 2013, and developer Full Control has already promised future expansions and DLC for after the game is released.

  • Space Hulk game announced for iOS

I personally know about the board game Space Hulk through the recent Fantasy Flight-released card game, but the title's been around for more than 20 years now. Set in the very popular (and very cool) Warhammer 40k universe, the game is all about a group of Space Marines making their way turn-by-turn through an abandoned huge vessel, or a space hulk (nothing to do, at all, with the Marvel superhero), and fighting bad guys named "genestealers" along the way. Now, a developer named Full Control has announced a new video game version of the title, set to arrive on PC, Mac and iOS next year. The game's being produced with Games Workshop's blessing and will feature turn-based strategy gameplay as you guide the Space Marines through the dangerous ship. There's a singleplayer game to play, as well as multiplayer co-op online. Full Control is also planning a level editor, so players can make their own content as well. The game sounds great -- there's a teaser trailer, but it's not much besides a Space Marine model trying to look as threatening as possible. We'll keep an eye on this one (and that other Warhammer game coming to iOS) as it moves closer to release. [via 148Apps]
